  1. yes mate on my dads side my family came over from Ireland for jobs in the coal mines ..I suppose a lurcher was a very handy thing to have catching the odd rabbit for the pot..
  2. Love the old pics ... This is a picture of my great great grandmother with what looks like a lurcher .. Photo taken after 1st world war..

    Bin Men

I'm a bin man and have to admit some lads are just total tw@ts .. Probably same as most workplace u get idle lads and tossers and then some sound lads that do owt to help folk...job and knock you can't beat it
  5. Great read , happy ending well done all... Dug 8 ft to my terrier not long back in tough ground so I can relate to your aches and pains lol.. Might be worth taking some heavy duty tools next time you ferret up there? Enjoy the summer
  6. My dogs are kennelled outside but occasionally they are inside mainly to please my little lad .. He knows the ground rules no letting the dogs on the sofa and not to let the dog lick his face.. I wouldn't trust them to be left alone together no matter how well they seem to get along.. Atb sesku
  7. Im not saying whippets aren't fast but always makes me laugh when folk suggest they are the ultimate bunny basher.. Purpose bred lurcher wins hands down imo .. Look at Trevs vids for example.. I've seen it with my own eyes this season ..yes they can catch well but far from the "best" atb sesku
  8. I came a cropper a couple years ago biking along took my eye off the dog said hello to a fella walking past.. Turned my head back to the road just in time to see a cock pheasant cross the road.. Dog pulled me I slammed breaks on down I went onto the road.. Yes it hurt I don't know how the fella didn't fall over laughing lol
  9. food for thought regarding the tarpaulin we like to leave the place looking like we've not been there... I have noticed a lot in grazing fields you can see where previous digs have been because of the sunken grass, lads just backfilling level before replacing the sod..
  10. Personally I'd prefer to dig with a mate/mentor... If nothing else to share the workload of digging, netting up etc we all have to start somewhere and I've been lucky enough to learn from a few good lads who have shown me the ropes.. If you've got good permission I'm sure it wouldn't be a problem to get a lad to take you out etc.. Atb sesku .. What part of Wales are you based?
  11. had 4 digs to her since xmas 1st one nearly 3hours in a spot we'd not dug before ..she took a bit of getting going but done me proud since..hope I get many more seasons with her in the coming years .. Atb sesku
  12. Yeah good luck with that ...hasn't any mates got a decent bitch ? You'll be struggling to get a complete stranger to let them use your dog ..
  13. ha ha brilliant.. That made my belly laugh stop end.."he was going that hard he passed the same entrance twice..
  14. Pip...done me proud last few months .. Roll on next season??
  15. very true.. Got a bitch here 1st season dog tried her early in the season but the penny didn't drop until after xmas.. Ended up digging her 4 times since January..
