  3. there is a lot of reasons why they dont bolt. 1st is that they are not using those warrens second is that the warrens are big enough to give your ferrets the slip under ground you say that you are just starting out are the ferrets youngsters or are they older working ferrets working being the operative word here. it could be that when you are setting the nets your making a bit of noise and they are unsettled and will not bolt best to set the nets and then wait a good bit i some times net a few sets on the way to going to the one im mainlky after doing on the day im going then do the others as
  4. mate has had the terrier finder but doesnt rate it at all for dog work hes gone over to the bellman and flint system and thats fantastic no use for the ferrets though i wouldnt be using the deben set for your terrier mate much better systems about when dealing with deeper earths. as a ferrte finder the mk3m is fantastic when working but does have its problems as highlighted in the many posts about it on here
  5. thinking is that they have just kept at the door till the catch has opened,or something or someone has nudged it dont honestly know how they got out, but have found a few rats this morning that they have had. next doors keep about thirty rabbits in bad conditions and the rats are living off the shit round there and the food they leave lying around have had words but they fall on deaf ears got a garden fence surrounding my garden with sunken gravel boards so they dont get in that often but found a couple of holes when searching yeaterday so think thats where they have come from. one of this yea
  6. just been round to see my parents and picked up the evening telegraph from a few days ago only reason i took the paper was coz i have a new puppy and wanted it for toilet training found inside the paper an article about the local wildlife police officer and how he was going to stop the illegal hare coursing in the area an how to spot the hare coursing type. this was not the only thing that it says though and as far as im concernd they have there facts wrong. with this been my first running dog im not the one ideally suited to writing a response to the paper but thought i might ask for opinions

  15. woke up this morning and looked on the ferret hutch and found the door wide open to find 2 of the 4 ferrets missing. have had a good look round and no sign of the ferts. what i have found though just in front of the hutch is a good patch of fresh blood. i know i locked them up last night properly although they dont have padlocks at the minute. so im wondering if somethings taken them or theyve got out and got something. got 3 distraught kids here this morning and a f****d up weekend if anyone hear's anything in grimsby please shout heres hoping muddy
  16. not had any issues with depth on mine did have a dodgy collar that was replaced though pisses me off that you spend nearly £150 on a finder and 65 for a collar and you see posts like this all the time deben need to sort out the reliability issues i think
  17. good day out mate pays to bring the youg ones in like that good work from the dog aswell
  18. honestly mate none of them they are all gonna cause you more trouble then they are worth you are best of getting spun poly loads of net makers on here you wont go wrong those nylon nets are a waste of money they will pick up every snag going and be the bain of your life
  19. in all the years of keeping ferrets one thing that can be taken for granted is that once the hutch/court door is open they will try to get out. as for going for your hands once you have put them back into there hutch quickly make your hand to a fist this wont stop them going for you but it gives them less to latch onto. i have a treat ball in my hutch that when i am taking one fert out or 2 then i need to keep the others in i fill the treat ball up give it a rattle then throw it in with the remainders this usually gets them away from the door so i can shut it. they in my opinion allways want t
  20. get a trip out like been said is the best bet. as for gear a spade a locater and some good quality nets dont buy cheap nylon nets they will hinder you from the off loads of net makers on here that will do you good deals. as for the time of year i started end of september but cover is still high now it depends on where you are and the climate to a large extent it used to be said only ferret when there is an R in the month but nowadays its usually october/november through till march. the age at which to take kits out is dependent on the kits themselves but i would usually like them to be about 5
