  1. in answer to your question, yes you make the nest inside the larsen trap, in the side that you would normally keep the call bird, door shut, that way, the maggies will jump into the "catch" part trying to get to the nest, if the perch is whats holding the spring doors open, make sure you set it really fine once you have caught a call bird, you must, again by law, make sure it has food, water and shelter, checking daily
  2. Thats a tidy looking hutch Stubby, what material is the Arch ? Tin ? Mars. its a very heavy duty tin stuff part of next doors old anderson shelter, it matches the ferret court no different from any other hutch,
  3. well actually recieved my first job today, which was via word of mouth from the womans guilde chat I did, very early days yet, but here's hoping
  4. and next time, keep it safer
  5. we caught a maggie in ours too, Im a night worker, so sleep mornings, my missus rushed upstairs and thrust this maggie in my face shouting look what we caught, I told her politly to go away, so she dispatched it, good reason for marrying a yorkshire farmers daughter
  6. yes they do mate, although will be slightly out on the depth gauge
  7. another year older pat,
  8. is it a larsen, or fox trap I normally wire whatever bait Im using to the trigger, so they really need to give it a "yank" which then springs the trap
  9. yup, Ill second that, grabbing, nose flicking and foot squeasing aint going to do you any favours, the nipping is part of growing up, they dont know any better, grabbing them will only enforce them to run back down a warren hole, when your trying to retrive them
  10. as with any animal, you get out, what you put in, my daughter has two pet jills, that live in the front room, they are silly tame as they get handled/played with every day, she lets them lick the spit from her mouth not something Id every try or recomend, but just shows what can be done
  11. anything like these the smaller ones, are really too small for my liking, so if they are smaller than that, I'd say no
  12. we had a few live catch go missing, or trampled on, over theydon bois way, put it down to anti's
  13. so your getting rid of two and keeping two, because you did'nt have the time to tame them up any age ferrets can be tamed, if handled enough and what of the two "old" ones, tell the new owner they are biters, or knock them on the head
  14. PORK CHOP, turn your bloody caps lock off, it's classed as shouting
  15. all year round here, but get most landowners to mow a 3ft strip along the boundary fences/warrens, give us nice clear runs with the longnets
  16. I tend to use rabbit traps for rabbits
  17. Ive put the post back up in the pinned section, have a read, but I wouldent recomend it as a first locator, I use one in conjunction with a deben mk3, on new kitts that may wander off ABOVE GROUND
  18. its either a very early mk3, or more likely a mk2, they look the same, minus the pin point control

  20. grey heron; proofing of the pond with netting or overhead wires is the most effective long term measure. this species must not be shot except in extreme circumstances and then only after consultation with, and the issue of a license by, the relevent agriculture department, licenses are issued on the basis of reinforcing scaring measures, not reducing local populations
  21. only you know you own ferts, no two are the same, so its no good us saying yes, you do it, and she kills the kitts due to nervousness, if she's ok with you, then she should be ok, but if she's not, Id say leave well alone, at least until their eyes are open, and moving about
  22. well just from reading the advert, your lucky someone just locked it, I would have deleted it, read the forum rules on bumping, once every 7 days, rather than daily,
  23. squirrels are curious little buggers, wont need getting used to it, Id stick the fenn in straight away
