shot a rabbit that had live babys in
stubby replied to spanielman2150's topic in Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control
cant get my head round this a hunting forum, and we have people wanting to raise a pest species, that have been orphaned due to "us" killing the parents, -
are you getting a hob kitt?, as two or more hob kitts could be kept together now no problems, as their "balls" wont drop till next season, also keeping them together from a young age, means sometimes they can stay together all year round I have two snipped hobs, that share a court in the summer, sure they rag each other now and again, but never have they had a serious fight, where as other hobs I have are split into 4 different cages, because they will fight and draw blood, or, as already stated, castration... I have three castrated hobs that share another hutch, no worries

its funny how we get with our nets, Im the same mate, as you have found out yourself, although it might be hot, or back breaking, but get first timers carring everything else, leaving the nets to you, only after someones been out with me a few times, would I let someone have the responsability of them

it differs between 6 to 8 weeks, but once you have seen them eating and drinking without the aid of mother, then a few days after

Id keep a mixture, you obviously already have ferts, to have bred a litter, what have you already got as adults?, how many do you want to keep in total? then its down to preference and terrain, on a half days outing, Id take 3 jills, but a full day out would take 5-6 jills and a couple of hobs, let the jills work first, then use the hobs to push any out that are sitting tight when starting your youngsters off, put them down with one of the adults,

lamp, get yourself one of johnb's dvd's, well worth the money http://www.thehuntinglife.com/forums/index...t&p=1074923

probably the runt of the litter, last year had two litters born in the court, all same age, yet two were noticably smaller, so much so that I brought the smallest one in, as he was getting bullied, he was fully formed, eyes open and eating to a degree, but had a wierd shaped head, sadly he died, then bought the other small one in, as she too started getting picked on, and was getting less food than the others, she survived and is now one of my daughters "pet ferrets" that live in the front room, she is still a very small fert, smaller than all of my workers, and did not come into season this y

phone the vets prior to going, tell them the situation, you never know, they may do a home visit, or if you think it will take more than an hour, maybe keep mum and kitts together for the trip, stop her fretting, although theres no gurantee she'll be ok with that

had this on video, but it was unwatchable as the tracking was so bad, so ordered the dvd from john, recieved within a day of it being posted, all I can do, is recomend this to anyone wanting to learn a few molecatching tips, had never watched the video all the way through, but the dvd I did, and its very informative, a well spent £15

you may be better off getting the jill jab as a short term fix, then sorting yourself out a snipped hob for future use

I picked up 6 genuine talpex along with some duffus and scissor traps, and have a simular problem to you chalkwarren, too many years on the building sites, using hammer drills has left me with minor white finger (bloody shakes) looks like I need a drink somedays, but I also found them quite hard to set, my tip for setting them, simply get a square of plywood, say 8"x8" lay the trap on this, then use both palms to push the trap open and set it, works for me

maybe she suggested a pencil, as that's what she uses

you can adjust the volume settings on "market place" under settings, but as stated, its more a case of not wanting to pick up background sound, or your heavy breathing, thats the worse thing going, try putting the mike nearer your mouth
-
your question may get more response in the "ferreting section", but if the rabbits wont bolt, then any ferret will kill under, are you using just one ferret?, ferreting now, in breeding season?, most doe's wont bolt if they have young?, try using jills first, and hob second

need some advice on how many ferrets for a warren and what ferrets
stubby replied to ferret12's topic in Ferrets & Ferreting
Is It definatly a 200 hole warren, or a few warrens on the same bank? but making it easy, as suggested either wait until the undergrowth dies back a bit, or if the landowner is keen to clear the warrens, get them to cut/strim a strip at top and bottom of banking, so longnets can be run along the length, both at the top and bottom, with stop nets sectioning it off into quarters, again as stated, the more hands the better, start at one end and work your way along, -
and you should read the posts before making a statement, joed's ferts are HOBS, therefore from play fighting/shagging, but definatly NO PREGNANCIES
-
they will climb on top of the black piping, onto the hutch roof, giving access to the witre mesh, shimmy over to the left, and up over the top, quicker than you can say jack frost, unless you get a solid top on it, the next post will be "my ferrets escaped, plus why a padlock on the door, thieves would simply climb over

you only get what you pay for, I'd suggest wait and save up for a better one (bigger) why pay out on something not big enough to do the job, money wasted, also, if your worried about your cats getting caught it snares, be prepared to have a cat in a fox trap every night my trap, although rusty, does the job on urban foxes, and thats only around 5ft

do people pay to borrow a vasectomised hob?
stubby replied to kristian's topic in Ferrets & Ferreting
anyone think it would be good to have a pinned topic on vets around the counry, as it may work out cheaper for someone to drive a few miles to another area to see a vet, specially if they want a few ferts done my two hobs cost £120 the pair, but they then wanted another £120 to check the op had been successful (which it was'ent) as one of them is still firing live rounds -
why use vaseline, and then have to wait for the tick to fall off, use the tick puller as kay suggests, and its job done

do people pay to borrow a vasectomised hob?
stubby replied to kristian's topic in Ferrets & Ferreting
so, in doing someone a favour of using your snipped hob, your going to deliver it free of charge, I see it as already mentioned, a snipped hob aint cheap, -
although the ferts get checked after ferreting, its always the way that you miss one, and a week later that one has become a few, so they get checked maybe once a week, these tick pullers are the best

do people pay to borrow a vasectomised hob?
stubby replied to kristian's topic in Ferrets & Ferreting
I always asked that the jills came to my hob, having availble empty courts where I can leave them for the weekend, to hopefully gurantee mating, I would expect a drink out of it, or a pkt of baccy, otherwise someone could turn up with multiple jills and expect them all done and fed for a weekend
