  1. Do you really need one is the question? you are only taking quarry out too 50yrds, this is where your field craft comes in, like the post above states .22 are pretty flat out to 35yrds and .177 will be flat further still so its only in this area between 35 and 50 you need to judge, this is were practice will give you those field craft skills. If you were considering FAC in the future then go for it, but it is still nice to learn through experience.
  2. Do exactly as the owner wants, If you don't there's plenty that will.
  3. The Meteor is still an adult rifle, I thought of the Meteor for my lad but when I found one he was too small to shoulder it, I thought about shortening the stock but didn't want to butcher it. I have an old BSA Cadet which fit him but it needs a new conrod, piston and seals but these are rarer than hens teeth so I just took him to the gunsmiths and let him try a few.
  4. I just got my 8 year old a crossman raven as they are a small junior rifle, he is only a small lad so this fit him well, it was £90 new with a £30 second hand scope and mount, I jjust wanted to get him used to cocking it and drill safety into him at a young age, my only gripe was it has a very hard trigger for a young lad but they addapt at that age and he is now hitting 10p size targets at 20 yards. Pianomans advice is good though, its more about the fit of the gun at his age, not the power.
  5. Alreat Darryl, enjoy. Never heard of anybody getting an open ticket straight away.
  6. What about the people with motoneurone disease? These people have been begging to end their lives for years but our government won't let them, so why create another rule for this sick b&st**d. Let him live against his wishes.
  7. Hawke Endurance ED 8x43, for the money these are excellent, best thing to do is go too a local optics store and try as many as you can.
  8. Hook line and sinker, Brilliant
  9. I'd be interested myself in one of those but at 6ft 3" I'd be worried about leg-room. Especcially as my left knee is acting up a bit recently. I'd only be taking her on short trips (less than 30 minute drives most of the time) so maybe I might be ok?? Like the last post says, there is plenty of legroom in the front, I am 6' and have no problems, the only thing I would watch out for after the general body check is that its not fitted with the original carb, they are garbage, you can fit mini su carbs or they do a webber aswell but there not cheap.
  10. fecking Huntley makes my piss boil every time I hear the knuts name .......... Totally agree......how this Cregan mush can be mentioned in the same sentance as Brady and Huntley is beyond my logic !! I wasnt comparing their crimes, just using them as examples of absolutely no doubt as to their guilt.Dont worry ,if i only had two cartridges i know which two of them would be getting it. I'll lend you another two
  11. Met police. Sort of beige colour. Same here in South Yorks, beige colour, never seen a green one before. Fast service that though two weeks, my Police force are great always been more than fair and sensible usually 4 weeks turn around. I had a green one once!!!!!! nothing a good coarse of antibiotics wouldn't put right. Merseyside ticket is a mint green colour aswell.
  12. Would your local shop be the one on the main road through Lancaster? I went in there the other day to buy a 22-250 off him and he literally just sold it as I walked in the shop, Gutted!!!. Its funny how they all lower their price when you say you will take your business elsewhere, I think there are way too many inconcistences with prices of HMR, £10 cheapest £17.50 dearest I have come across so far, all for the same make.
  13. I've got the older SJ but they are superb, I get all my shooting gear in plus the dog and its very capable off road.
  14. Could you imagine the backlash you or I would get if you said you was going to blast away down the street at the foxes with your .22, your feet wouldn't touch the floor and you could wave goodbye to your guns.
  15. Nice one Elliott, Did you get your HMR rounds from the PM I sent you a bit back?
  16. Brilliant, Reminds me of my youth, its better to start em young, believe me, I showed my 48yr old cousin how to skin and gut a rabbit last weekend and funny enough he didn't look as keen as the look on your lads face....lol, another one who has only ever seen meat in a plastic container on a supermarket shelf.
  17. Well done Elliott, I know what you mean, the HMR makes an awful mess with a body shot which is fine if your just thinning them out but if you want them for the table its headshots all the way. It always amazes me that when you make a statement like that on here, there are umpteen people who jump on the bandwagon and try and make it yet another HMR v's 22lr debate again.
  18. SMLE great rifle, I have got a 1917 model now and I still hit the odd V bull at 600yrds.
  19. I have never used reloader 15 but when I am trying a new rifle I will make some trial rounds, find out what your minimum and maximum loads are then make up a few rounds of each grain for example if your minimum is 23gr and max is 26 then make a few at 23, 24, 25 and 26 fire these at the target and see which group best then when you have found this you can start to trial .1 grains until you find the tightest group, this will vary from rifle to rifle even if they are identical models. Also make sure the bullet heads you are using are the right weight for the twist rate of you rifle, looking at
  20. Hi Craig, I am exactly the same, right handed left eye dominant and I do the same as Jackinbox, I keep both eyes open while I pick up the target then once I'm on it I close my left eye and sight it like a rifle, I've done this for years now and I don't even think about it anymore, it just happens.
  21. Hi guys, Just noticed Milegajo has been banned, what's happened? I don't know about anyone else but I found his stories a really good read, they where different to most subjects on here and certainly not repetative like a lot of stories on here, if I hear whats best 22lr or 17 hmr I think I will cry. Anyhow Mods is it something that can be resolved or are we to be deprived of a good writer, he will be missed.
  22. Its a special sledge design, very clever in engineering terms. I believe Air Arms once had a similar springer. By all accounts they are very expensive, what did you manage to pick up yours for? You managing ok with the weight? I got a belting deal on it, they are going for 7 hundred and odd quid but the gunsmith near me who I have used for over 30 years and spent many thousands in this time had one in with a couple of tiny dings in the stock and I mean tiny, you really have to look close to see them so he let me have it for almost half price, BARGAIN. The weight hasn't been an issue as I
  23. Just put another 100 pellets through it and its no fluke, its about as accurate as you can get, its got some wierd kind of counteraction of the spring were the whole gun moves forward 1" along the stock when you cock it and then when you fire the gun moves back along the stock as the spring is going forward so there is no recoil, I have never seen another gun do this but there has been some serious thought behind it to make it happen. I am going to take it too the 50yard range on saturday and see how I get on there, I will try and get some photo's and put them up but can't promise cause I'm c
