I remember reading about an unlucky fella being killed by a .22rf ricochet while being out with his family for a picnic, he was hit in the temple a few hundred yards away, the lad who did it didn't even know till a knock on the door from the police, when they worked out the final bullet impact energy, it was only doing 16lb/ft, so it goes without saying allways be sure of your backdrop, if not sure don't shoot.

You would only be able to shoot Muntjac and chinese water deer with a .222 for all other deer you would need a calibre of no less than .240 with a minimum muzzle velocity of 1700fps and a bullet weight of 50 grains minimum. as regards to ammo it would depend on what county you are in and your FAO, mine is 250 to buy and 300 to own.

Pig skulls have stopped .223 rounds 1300lbs/ft and it is not recomended to shoot wild pigs with anything less than a .308, an injured pig is a very dangerous animal and you are shooting them with an air rifle, this isn't only dangerous it is cruel to the animal, as you cannot guarantee a humane kill.

What an absolute shame,I wish these so called dog lovers would stick to poodles and the kennel club would stop playing God and not try to breed dogs to look at instead of what they should be doing and sticking to a dogs originality, spaniels are working dogs and are only truly happy when they are working and pleasing their master. Mine would give it heart failure if it spent a couple of hours with it.

Thats the one, a big joint of beef wrapped in denim,when they're done shooting and start to cut the beef up to examin the bullet damage it kinda makes me want to fire up the barbeque.

Just watched a clip on youtube ".22LR Lethality - 300 yard ballistics" he's hitting a target simillar size to a rabbit at 300yds and the rounds are going straight through, I'm not saying shoot rabbits at this distance but it makes you realise that this little round is bloody lethal.

Does anyone know if it is legal to borrow a FAC if you have that calibre on your certificate, my cousin usually comes shooting with me a .308 and I can't make it today, he has permission on the same land and has .308 on his FAC could he borrow mine legally. Thanks in advance.

Just found this in the shootin times, The minimum calibre to be used against wild boar is the .270 Win, delivering a muzzle energy of 2,700ft/lb, but it is recommended that a calibre of no less than 7mm with a bullet of 160 grains-plus and muzzle energy of no less than 2,800ft/lb should be used. I know this isn't what you asked, but it warns against using 223 or even 243 as they are that tough and could cause a potential dangerous situation with a wounded animal. If you already knew this then good luck if not then its a heads up, Keep us posted.

I've got one of these also, they are a fantastic piece of kit for the money £170 if you shop around, compare other scopes around this price in the shop, you will be suprised how much better this scope is.

Had hold of the savage today, it was also the thumbhole model but appart from the trigger it was no better than the CZ, so the next thing is how much and what trigger to replace the one on the CZ?
