  1. I am currently looking to aquire a .17 HMR and had my mind set on a CZ455, really liked this gun, was very comfy to use and very accurate, I have never owned or used a thumbhole stock until I tried this gun and was really impressed, also the £399 price tag is good for a rifle like this. Then just to throw a spanner in the works I've been offered a Savage 93R17, not had chance to look at one in the flesh yet, but I have read quite a few reviews online and they all seem quite possitive, it looks very similar to the CZ, and the price is £499 so its another hundred quid which I don't mind paying
  2. Yehh there can be a variation in case weight but not enough to account for a missed or indeed an extra powder measure, I work more or less the same way as you, from left to right and I also have the radio on as this does not distract me but I wouldn't recommend this to someone who is loading for the first time.
  3. I use Lee reloading gear and have had no issues with it whatsoever, like a previous post said a good set of scales wouldn't go amiss, at least this way if you have any doubts when you have finished reloading you can weigh the rounds and they should all be the same, providing you are using all the same cases and bullets. I load both .357 magnum and .308, you most certainly could get a double powder measure in the magnum case but the shouldered rounds are usually quite full with one measure. Good luck.
  4. Just got a Nikon 3x9x50 with bullet drop compensator for £180, I know its a little more money but the quality of the glass is fantastic for that price, have used more expensive scopes that were nowhere near as good.
  5. Just been offered a 10 shot mag for my .308 ssg but it is the straight spring loaded type and not the rotary type that comes with it,has anyone used these before? are they any good? I know these are as rare as hens teeth now, but that might mean they are shite. He is asking £50 for it, so I don't want to take a chance on it without prior advice. Thanks in adance.
  6. I've got a Deben Bipod on my .308, they are cheaper than the Harris and are just as reliable.
  7. Got a Marlin 357 lever gun, its the dogs danglies.
  8. I shot rough with an old AYA 12g s/s for years, it was light, comfortable and I hardly ever missed my quarry with it. Then one day I decided to trade it in for a 20g o/u,even though it is a good gun and I probably get the same results I don't half miss my old gun, in fact when I get a bigger storage cabinet(mines full), I am going to get another.
  9. If its a semi auto you are after the 10/22 are very reliable and will feed on most things you put through it, you might also want to look at a remmington 597, these are supposed to be the most accurate rimmy out of the box there is, but if its just bunny bashing your after, I agree the CZ bolt is the way to go.
  10. Don't know of many people who have cured a dog from Gun shyness, like was said, you did too much too soon, good luck anyway.
  11. Joe Irvine here aswell,I trained my ess with his book and the best advice I could pass on is short and regular training sessions.

Looks a cracking bird,I've always fancied a Harris Hawk but never bothered because I work a spaniel and I wouldn't want any mishaps.
  13. I have no restrictions on my current cert but if next time I renew and have to register my rimmy for target shooting they will then add restrictions,or will they? I'm hoping to find some new land before renewal but if I don't and have to go down the target route,I'm hoping because I have 10 years shooting experience I will be deemed competent to assess my own venues.
  14. Failing this,my next question is if I join a gun/target club in order to renew my cert, would this then restrict me to shooting at the club or would I still be able to practice vermin control on any future farm/venues I may find? Thanks again Derek
  15. I would use a 5 or 6 size shot,as for the make it is totally up to you,the faster the shot velocity the less lead you need to give em,its a bit of trial and error really but thats what makes it fun. As for the chamber size if your gun has 2 3/4inch chambers buy 2 3/4inch cartridge as for shooting 2 1/2 inch cartridge, your gun will do this safely but the shot pattern can be disrupted by the longer chamber.DO NOT shoot cartridge longer than the stated chamber size as your gun is not proofed to do this and it could be dangerous. yes chhers bud so iam just asking for a 2 3/4 in cartridge

  17. I have had a .22LR for the last 9 years and have had it registered at a farm in Warrington, unfortunatley the farm has changed hands and his son does all the vermin control so does not want anyone else shooting there,I have kept the rabbits and pigeons at bay in all this time so when my cert comes up for renewal next year I will need a new farm in order to renew it.Are there any kind hearted soles out there who can provide me with a new venue,I am 41years old, fully insured and work a spaniel. Thanks in advance
  18. Very well done, looks like she's making a good dog.
  19. A big Hello to everyone. A quick line just to say that I enjoy all country pursuits, but I partake in alkinds of shooting and I'm currently training an English Springer to the best of my abilities,I would eventually like to trial him but if I end up with a dog nearly good enough to trial I will be more than happy.
  20. I use the Joe Irving's book aswell, its a good book for a beginner,I also recommend basic and advanced spaniel training for the gun, two DVD'S by Ian Openshaw.
