  1. I know West Yorkshire well and you are right they won't suffer fool,s, same here mate £10 a mole for farm work would be the exception not the rule,
  2. Daytime mapping,is the best way stand in the gates you are most likely to use with the rifle and map distances as much as you can, preparation preparation its the only way, I dont use a range finder but I am going to get one at some point, though not sure how afective they are at night having no expeirience of them,
  3. I am not sure you would get that much for a mole up here mate, the farmers moan at £5 a mole,
  4. I do normally I have had one bought for me,thought I would pick people's brains on baits to use I. Was going to try and set a bait triggered spring snare, but can't get a definate answer on legality of them, anyway I now have this to try, so with any look
  5. My missis has held the lamp for me for a few fox's,even been out with the little whippet x lamping she's not a bad hand, her first shot at live game with a 243 was a roe buck 150 yds,and dropped it,so I cant complain but she has a dickie fit if a rat turns up,all rational gone in an instant
  6. Thats not a bad idea with the bladders, its good to make something useful from what we normally throw away, will try that for sure thanks
  7. That dog can sense, everything about you and your reactions, dont pity what happened to him, forget it move on,if you do he will, relax if you had walked in got a cup of tea and walked out, without looking at him, totally ignoring what he was up to, the play would probably have continued if not restarted very quickly,he has a perception of what the human reaction will be,dont do what he expects and his perception will change, its a time thing, and he is young enough,he will move on if you let him,
  8. As above, he's young mate, he is letting the other dogs take pack lead, its maturaty thats all he's tuned into you proper, you are his world his safety blanket and everything, sounds like he will turn out fine, terriers can have a more agressive style of hunting they can be strong characters, that wont matter next season as his confidence grow's,
  9. Nothing wrong with lab's very versatile dog it's how you bring them up,most dog's will scent blood I know some are specialists at it I find the trick is the closeness required from them, the stalker requires a steady calm quiet dog who will odey very small commands, they have to be attentive and not clingy, good lab ticks most of them boxes if its not brought in a hot way, sounds like to replace your bitch whatever you get, has its work cut out, good luck mate I know the dilemma you will be in, there are other good dogs out there though mate. I have had a shock with the ability of a whippet cros
  10. I have just got hold of a collarum, and I must admit it looks good first impressions,I am trying to find out what is the best bait to bait them with,or if anyone has any good or bad points to pass on around them,I am thinking of wireing a rabbit leg to the bait trigger first time out,but wondering if there's anything better,I sort of plan to change the bait species to match the problem, so to speak ie bits of lamb,or chicken in the relevant areas, any info would be good and welcome,
  11. If you can set them right they will work, I find that style of trap difficult to master, some people like them, I have caught in them,if I use that style of trap I use the talpex which is a very good trap, I like them for fussy moles in soft ground, out of choice I much prefer the tunnel trap, but get a good one, look up procter pest stop trap a few people on here use them, they are very reliable, and give good service for a long time,I am looking at the trap man ones at the moment, he does a proffessional tunnel trap, but the smallest amount he will sell is 25,so I need to know if they are any good
  12. They were good little gun,s in there day
  13. I wouldn't mind putting a few grey's down around me, but can never find anyone who will sell small amount, last three times I have tried to hatch them ,the eggs have been infertile there's hardly any wild grey,s around me at all, weather seem,s to have finished them
  14. I am just doing a full skin and tail,to make a decoy, and I have found a recipe, 2/3 cups of washing soda 1 cup of non iodized salt 2 1/2 cups of alum I started by putting a funnel into the top of the tail, and flooding it out with the solution dont know what it will end up like just put it in yesterday,
  15. Agreed very poor quality, with very little credibility have not read it since miners strike, but naive people do read it and beleive it,should be a law against scare mongering,
  16. Hi mate I have just taken a hungarian wirehaired visla back, who I did managed to sort once for gun shy,his problems started with fireworks, and a couple of week ago he had one go off above him again, and set him right back to square 1, after a week of settling in I have put gun oil on his bed for scent association, and last night I had him settled in with the air rifle going off around him,I have allso ordered the fireworks sound cd so I can desenatise him to them and some 410 shells to get tomorrow, one thing I find with things like this,is whats going off in your own head the dog picks up on,i
  17. I agree there's loads of cloned traps on the market in one way or another look how many variations of mole claw trap there are, that might be a bad example, it will however have something to do with the effect on the animal, as regards welfare or being humane if I can find who to email specifically, I will ask the question as I dont want to spend £100 on a collarum, when the principle is easy to replicate and will cause no more stress than a collarum,
  18. I have had mine a couple of weeks now and I am still mastering it,saying that, I have had a few with it and I am getting better I think at the moment its in part somethng to do with the time of year, another month and they will start pairing up,I think thats when it will come into its own mate,
  19. I know what you mean about mad, thing is the collarum uses a spring under tension to place the snare around the target animals neck, then relies on the snare anchor to do its bit in holding the animal, and in some sense's thats what I was wanting to experiment with, the whip or spring would break away, and not maintain any tension I have looked through the wildlife and countryside act,it does say what spring trap you can use for what speicies,ie mk 4 mk 6 and such but as yet I havnt found the relevant info on spring snares,I supose technically what I am talking about isnt a spring snare,it would b
