  1. Nothing wrong with hunting with dogs, despite it now being unjustly banned, when people do it properly its very humaine, dogs were bred to hunt alongside people, that and protection was there purpose, but like fran say's to record it and post it,or even use it because they think it will make them more popular, is something we as a community can do without, too many people will use it as an example of what mindless killers we are,and not see that dogs are just another way of gathering meat for the freezer,
  2. I Tried allum but think I left it in too long might give it another go,
  3. Seconded, when killing something become as badge of merit, then all respect for the animal or for the action of doing so, has gone, just kids who do nothing but give us a bad name, and corupt peoples view on proper hunting, they are the blight of field sports,
  4. How about BUMBLE co's as they grow and have there little dicky fits around the garden they can corner like one,
  5. I dont know where I read it, but doesn't catching a white mole mean he is about to turn his toes up, according to the old boy's tales anyway,
  6. Whippets are as daft as a box of frogs, but you have to love them, hes just at a state of high excitement, paid is right, but I prefer to call there name, turn around ignore them and walk away, dont look at them at all,it takes a bit of courage but he will come, and when he does give him the sit command if he sits praise him calmly,if he dosn't, walk away and ignore him till he does, it will then be on your terms they soon calm down, however at twelve months old he is still imature, and your patience will get tried, good luck with him,
  7. I worked in the pit but at that time everything was heavilly mechanised, 80's onwards them boy's like the old man, had it hard oil lights and hand filling on the coal faces, it wasnt a place to be especially if you had no choice, and alot of them lost there lives, I respect them I allways will, jimmy saville was a bevin boy its a shame he survived it though,
  8. Do you load your own amo for that Craig ??
  9. Traditional net I set at knee height, there or there abouts,I do have quick sets and I move them down the poles to be about the same,I know some people would say they can be jumped, and they can, in my experience when a rabbit is coming in in the dark at speed very few think of jumping, most turn back into the field run another 20yds or so,and go in again, and thats where the bag in the net does its job, the beuty about the knee height you can adjust in the dark quietly, there are alot of good longnetters on here for advice, and all have there own little tricks, what you will learn is not all the
  10. Bonny dog, it looks well up for working with the net mate,
  11. sorry have I read it wrong. I am on about 17 hmr,if so my mistake
  12. People knock them and favour .22 rim, other people prefer the17 over the .22 rim, sporting shooter is right I keep both and find I use both, as said long range crow/rabbit or sometimes a opportunistic shot at a fox,it serves me well and it will kill very quickly, good little round in my opinion,
  13. I would go with coccidosis, the old man used to say you get it alot in inbred rabbits
  14. Cos I am short of a fire side rug??????????????????????? think that would do
  15. You may not have seen them, but have not you felt the the eyes of the wild feline burning a hole in your back as you walk the wood at first light No not really and I spend a lot of time deer stalking,my other half claims to have seen one,and the hours I have put in on the lamp you would think I was a candidate to see one,
  16. Bloody hell I have spent 40 odd yrs lamping at night, shooting, deer stalking, walking over miles and miles of country, and have never seen owt I cant explain, even over ground where people have claimed to have seen big cats, and nothing, so as far as I am concerned its unprovred
  17. That's true unless you have Expanding bullets ! As they count as your total to hold, loaded or just in the box. ATB Coldweld Not sure if that is true as when i was revoked i was allowed to keep the bullets (soft points) and cases but had to get shot of the primers or powder Phil21 is right it counts once it is made up,unless something has changed, that we are not aware about,if so some one could do with asking plod, and clarifying it,
  18. I like it mate, very informative and well laid out in my opinion,I came accross the old mans lee loader the other day his was a very old one, thats what made me look on your site,I am interested in the 3/12 inch stuff, for the geese, but last I was told the price of powder had gone through the roof,
  19. Tottaly agree we are over run with the crows at the moment,I have been laying up in the hedge of a popular crow field with good back stop, and rifling a few at long range off the floor,as a change from the shotgun good sport with the 17 hmr or the 22 rim, trouble is there doesn't seem to as many people doing the crow control these day's,and a week with the shotgun in the hide, seem's top make very little difference at all its a on going battle,
  20. I dont know if you have noticed around your permission, but I think the wet weather has made the rabbits spread out to dryer ground,I have walked all the hedge backs around me, and theres sets that havnt had rabbits in for a long time are now occupied, and I am seeing rabbit numbers rise, some of me thinks that the rabbits spreading out will mean they arent inbreeding as much, and the gene pool will get refreshed for once,
  21. its illegal to transfer any fish to any water as it can spread desease, and when live baiting you should use the fish from the water your fishing So how would you go about restocking, say brown trout bought from a fish farm into a stream, would you need a licsence,????????????if so how would you get one
  22. I allways use the pull through as soon as I open the box to put it back, but have allways set mine to be true on a clean barrel first shot like my deer caliber, but I have seen me put 20 -30 shots through it, without cleaning it in a afternoon with no obvious loss of acuracy,if you use the lock and load and get your head seated at the right distance from then rifles rifleing, the gun wll last yrs and give good service superb round well worth investing in,
  23. trouble with stocking fish,is someone will complain or report you, not sure on the legallity of it probably ok with native speicies
  24. I agree countless foxes have fallen to polystyrene and is still a favourite of mine, but last year I did do well with the tenter field call,
