Yeah I'm in Exeter mate, I offered you a day out with the ferrets earlier in the season if you fancied it ( I think you were quite new to the area), I've got a few bits of permission up here and quite a lot in North Devon ( a mates got stacks we go on up there) your welcome for a day out next season with the dogs if you wanted to. I'm taking my little lad out tonight ( he's drove the missus mad all day lol) so I doubt I'll se
  2. Nice one mate bet you were buzzing. Gonna take mine out for a stroll tonight same breeding but a couple of months older
  3. Hi Baz How's the wife feel about the ferrets your getting this year.......... think you may be in a tent in the garden with the dogs and ferts Glad to see the pups still doing well out of the house mate
  4. If your serious about getting a lurcher and meet the criteria.........I'll gift you a pup out of a litter I'm planning in about 6 months. You seem like a level-headed lad asking the right questions and taking advice on board The offers there and like you said your not wanting one straight away so time to think and decide........ Thats a great offer there mate........ fair play to you Johnny
  5. Yeah Grew is greyx whip, member on here called sowhat got some nice looking grews he's also expecting pups ( grey/whip x grey/beddy) if your looking for a pup they might be nice ones
  6. My first dog was a whippet x ( don't know with what) called Hagler ( after Marvelous Marvin) he came everywhere with me from about 10 years old was no world beater but I thought he was then ( thats over 24 years ago ). Was never indoors as a kid feel sorry for kids these days I'm scared to let mine out we were out from morning to night in for some tea then out lamping
  7. couple of pics of mine 3/4 whip 1/4 beddy and jack russel good little dogs and nice easy dogs to keep. A bit on the small side obviously for bigger stuff but good fun for mooching and ferreting ( she's only young so next season will know more about lamping)easy to train and if your not kenneling them nice dogs in the house. ATB
  8. good read that, you gotta be a little bit mad for this game
  9. nice one mate, the weathers been mad again this year loads of snow but didn't stop them breeding.
  10. Try to get out tomorrow morning but I reckon tha'll be the last time this season. It's changed from years ago when it was any month with an R in it.
  11. Bloody he'll we must of post basically the same thing at the same time. I've got a feeling you've made a wise decision.
  12. I hope the dog comes good for you mate. I would also say that merle24 seems a really decent bloke, fair play to the offers he has made you, with him knowing the line he has bred and showing that much confidence she'll come good , maybe you should give her a little longer. Good luck in whatever you decide.
  13. Glad she's settled in for you mate, I download my photos on photo bucket then re size them to medium, on set sizes in edit, beside the photo you'll have 4 sets of numbers copy the second set down ( direct link I think). When you put attach file on here paste the number in the box and it should come up, I hope that makes a bit of sense
  14. Nice one mate sounds like he's doing well. I'm gonna give it a go tonight it's wet and windy, looking on getting to a new bit of permission, have a run tonight and maybe ferrets on sun.
  15. hi mate Their actions offer you an insight into whats going on below ground which can be invaluble, If your dog marks well can save a lot of wasted time also they know where the rabs gonna bolt you see their manner change as they wait for the inevitable. As the other lads have said it's a bonus if they can catch bolted rabbits which miss nets etc also they'll hold rabbits in the nets which if your dealing with one and another bolts it's a bonus. Although I don't think your questions daft at all as this is a place to comne and learn and unless you ask you'll never know, I would say, as whi
  16. She's doing good thanks, Baz, I'm supposed to be taking her out on some new permission tonight, not sure now as the ground is frozen solid down here, see how it turns out later. How's yours doing mate
  17. Hi mate couple of pics of mine, hope alls well with you, atb kev
  18. well done mate, wonder how many lurchers first retrieve is a woodcock lol
  19. if i was to go down the whippet route would you reccomend a ped or non-ped? or is there not alot of difference i assum non ped means greyhound in there somewhere? Tbh rocky i would like to get permission on all different types of land but havnt really bothered as i dont have a dog that will be able to use it, so really a lurcher that i could take on those kinds of places if i wanted to would be nice, not saying it has to catch huge bags maybe just one or two would be fine by me, would be a change of scenery etc and keeps the dogs busy, if im asking too much of a dog to be able to
  20. i had a first x beddyxwhippet and i now have a whippet both great dogs tackle anything but very keen on working cover so they wont stand out waiting for a bolt they want to be in the thick of it, get the beddy x better coat for when its cold and dont show scars. Brothers got a first x whip/bed start her next season should have a bit of fun with our little pack
  21. This is my 3/4 whip 1/4 beddy and the jack russel in the backgrounds mine. the lurchers only 8 mnths but I got her for the same things as you want ( although i will lamp with her too). I went for 3/4 bred because I hoped it would be quicker than the 1/2 cross and already having a terrier wanted more sight hound blood. She's came on well works well with the terrier when bushing and well with the ferrets. obviously she's really young so I couldn't tell you she is doing this or that yet but so far I'm really pleased.
  22. Definately early starts for me, get all the time in you can, the days are short and the seasons are getting shorter, besides I reckon the mornings the best time of the day
  23. I take 2 jrt and lurcher but strollers right the terrier is especially jealous and far too hard mouthed, but she marks well, catches hole hoppers and pushes most out of the hedge into the long nets so she's useful as long as you get the rabbit off her quick plus my missus couldn't handle the whining if i left one home, as soon as the coat and boots are on they know
