HI Mate If you are a beginner mate I would go to your local tackle shop and ask for some advice on the local waters, tackle needed, baits etc, take a walk around the places you are thinking of fishing and have a look how others are fishing, ask the the anglers a couple of questions ( most people will be helpful, if there not they're idiots anyway) obviously they may not tell you everything they know about the water ( they've put the work in to find that out). Once you've got an idea you just gotta get out and do it. I'm not far from you in Devon and fish a bit in Somerset mainly on the r

Was fishing the pier in Mevagissey, Cornwall when we were kids and my brother pulled in a shopping bag which had a packet of bacon and packet of sausages in it, he opened the packets and put a piece of sausage and bacon on the hook and dropped straight down the side ( crabbing really), after a little while had a bite and pulled in a flounder that was around 2lb in weight. Was looking at old photos the other day and there was one of him proud as punch holding the flounder up, happy days. Never tried sausage or bacon since, stick to peeler, rag ,lug ,squid etc. ATB Kev

NEWKID replied to Ideation's topic in Ferrets & Ferreting
As a kid used to do a small barn full of hay put long nets around it and sent the ferrets in had a few ( the old lurcher used to stand on top of the hay and watch the nets), caught a badly mixied one on a site we were working on ( it was in abad way and could hardly run) got some funny looks when I ran over and grabbed it and necked it, had one out of a stone wall last year just removed the stones and took it off the ferret. -

I love bushing with my 2 my russel has done really well this year, she's caught a couple in the bushes her self( admittedly there only any good for the ferrets or soup lol), works well with the ferrets inc catching hole hoppers, marks well and has done a bit of ratting too. She tries her heart out every time and is quite obediant for a terrier ( this has got beter in the last couple of months). I love the daytime walks with her and my lurcher and next year I've got my brothers lurcher pup too happy days

Thats a great offer on the peelers mate If your gonna fish live eels in the estuary you need to leave your beach gear at home, fish with a light rod ( coarse gear ,barbel rod or even match rod) and no more than 8lb line or braid on a small spinning reel. Attach a swivel and a 4-6ft trace and tie on a size 4 or 6 carp type hook. Lip hook the live eel and flick it out into the current and let it go with the flow (no weight) ( similar to stick float fishing in a river) there's no way you'll catch crabs and hopefully you'll catch some fish. If they've got eels on the back beach chances are th

Hi mate I'd highly recomend Dave Harrison, Gemini, who goes out of Kings Weir, near Dartmouth. Mob number; 07968 599245 He'll do what you wantv really wrecking for pollack and cod or anchored up for conger ( the boat holds a conger line class record) ther's also some good sport about 10 mins out on the skerries banks, which should be holding a few plaice now. He's a knowledgeable skipper mate and should give you a good day out. A.T.B Kev

My closest friend, the man who first took me out with a dog when I was only 6 died last week, it was his funeral on thurs he was only 56. It made me realise how much I owe him he taught me to hunt and fish and every weekend ( and some school nights) were the best times ever. He would pick me up on a friday night to go lamping then saturday and sunday we would ferret or fish. I managed to get out for a day with him a couple of months ago I took him ferreting with my brother and my son, who's 5. He was by then quite ill and i had that horrible feeling that may have been my last time out with hi

This was my first running dog for a few years but we always had bigger dogs back then 23 + the best being a Grey/ collie, susie, who could turn her hand at most things I think in the future i'll be looking for a bigger dog as well but me and my lad enjoy everyday out with the dogs, she's way too young to say shecan do this or that but she tries her heart out everytime andputs a smile on my face so thats good enough for me.

A couple pics of mine, she's around 7 mnths ( around 10 mnths now) in the photos 3/4 whip 1/4 beddy, 19.5 tts, she's done pretty good tail end of the season with the ferrets and daytime bushing with the terrier only done a little lamping so far with her out with more experianced dog. I'm sure these smaller dogs are'nt ideal for all but if it's rabbits your after both day and night people are gonna keep them.

Mines on raw chicken carcuss minced by a friends butcher, there £1.50 a tube ( about 3lb), they get sardine at leasst once a weeks and some dry food, I've always got a big budget pack of chicken wings and thighs in the freezer if the mince runs out + they go in for the ferrets when I'm out of rabbits ( and as my dogs are always to full to run thats often ) If you can't keep an animal properely you shouldn't have an animal, theres no excuse

3/4 whip 1/4 beddy She's only young so you can't say for sure but I'm pleased with how she's come on the last couple of months, good with the ferret has started to mark , didnt trust her at first and waited for my terrier to mark but but entered ferrets on her mark and rabbit bolted she's caught runners, works around cover well and works well with my jack russel, I've started her on the lamp with an older dog but I'm gonna give her a few easy runs beginning of next season. she's been quite easy to train ( well to my standards any way ) stock breaking was no problem. Generally she's been a r
