Did Or Does Anyone Make A Living Out Of Work There Lurchers
shaaark replied to bob84's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Total BOLLOCKS, don't care how much land etc etc you've got. And, there's a difference between making a few quid and making a proper living -

Nope ,with today's tech, decent footage would be available, not some half arsed blurry pic. More chance of seeing fungus the bogeyman than a panther. The word I used was Possible? as in Tongue and Cheek I'd say it's more than just possible, but very probable. As others have said, it isn't that long ago that people in this country were keeping large exotic 'pets' of all sorts. Then when these 'pets' got too large and 'problematic' to deal with, released them into the wild. Most people regard mainland britain as pretty small, but it's still a very sizeable country which is large enough

Rough coated dogs are scruffy and smelly lol, although it must be said, on occasion smooth coated dogs can also be smelly . Seriously though, the worst coats I've personally seen, poor, thin, not cold or water resisant, have been bedlington x's. I know some people will obviously say different, NL , but I'm saying personally. My lad's rough coated dog, with beardie in, has probably the most water and weather resistant coat I've seen on a dog, and will happily spend a couple of hours in wind and rain gnawing at a bone, when he only has to get up and move three or four yards to be inside!

Same here, does my f***ing head in all that caper, though the pups still might turn out ok. Just does my head in reading/listening to all that soppy, cuddly drivel, then in my head I'm thinking 'right, time to f**k off'

@ above, and this part of THL in general, yep you're right, refreshingly pleasant and always something nice to read, advice, support, friendliness etc. Good stuff

Had the same thing with a deer/grey x collie grey, too fast and just didn't learn. Too fast, too driven? Probably, but she wasn't stupid, just never really learned how to use and contrtol her speed

Are Greyhounds Really That Fragile?

Got one here now, but she won't be ready til next season. Had a couple in the past and seen a few over the years. All very capable, and willing to have a go at anything. Size can sometimes be a little bit of an issue on the lamp if they throw small, but in the main that's the same as running any smaller type. Cracking types. Will try to post pics as soon as I'm able Edited to add, that all this fragile and robust nonsense doesn't make much of a difference to any type, if they hit something hard enough, any type will stay hit!

These posts should show, as unfortunate as the post by poacherspocket is, that it isn't just greyhounds that don't learn or have accidents etc. And fragile they most certainly aren't. All types, crosses and purebreds will have some that will or won't learn, and some that suffer with injuries etc more than others. Luck of the draw in most cases I think -

Hey.. Us whippet men have feelings! Looks like a great night Trev70 BBB I'm a big fan of pure whippets myself, always have been . And I wouldn't give a toss if any of mine ever caught anywhere near 40, which they didn't lol. Cracking dogs, will always have a soft spot for them, and will more than likely end up with another in the not too distant future
-
Cracking, how did you get that many, it's only a whippet?! Lol

I'd never compare this cross to a decent bull cross, they'd be worlds apart imo.I would say the same qualities as a Beddy cross but with better drive, coat and feet. Got to agree some the work iv seen bull X do I don't think any breed lurcher will compare to them for what they do and bred for But proper lurchers are not bred for doing the same things that proper bull x's are best at. And by proper bull x, that's exactly what I mean, not a lurcher with a bit of bull in one, or even both parents, because then that's just a lurcher with a little bit of bull in, not a bull x. Like that bitch

Lol just pointing out really, that if someone wants to take ducks, not off ponds, or in flight lol, with an air rifle then it's fine, and as far as I'm aware, it's still legal to shoot ducks with an air rifle. And I personally have never regarded hunting for the table as sport, again, just saying
