It's a well known fact, especially on here, that whippets are useless as working dogs. Just get a bull cross, WILL catch everything, pre ban or otherwise, mice to red deer

Collie Grey Bull Grey Or Bull Grey Sal Grey
shaaark replied to D Lloyd's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
I think it's because it's nice when like minded folk have got an interest in what you are doing. They ask questions and offer ideas etc. But you often get more negative responses than positive on here, regardless of what you are doing or how you are doing it. Lol, yep. And it's a bit like 95% of people on here crabbing whippets cos they are SHITE, FACT. But it's ok now cos there's a good chunk of whippet in the original minshaw dogs lol. Slightly off topic, but there we are lol -
Probably was pal but still no need to post, it's just annoying lol That was the reason indeed. And as gaz said, you don't need to justify your choice of dog. As long as you're happy, why should you give a toss as to what others think

Great that . Yep, those whippets are too fragile to run over rough ground though! lol -
Very very capable type, and for more than just rabbits, even if the ban does get lifted. Cracking types
-
What if someone doesn't want to catch rabbits, are they any good then? PRE BAN , oh yeah, and I'll just shoot rats anyway
-
Well, a couple of my sisters are very fair examples of their gender, but no, I've not been tempted to go down that route .............. lol

Agree with that, but how many people don't even bother innoculating their dogs, or even providing them with proper kenneling etc? Remember that litter in ely . Seen some pretty sad sights over the years, including more than a few on here

Old Traveller Picture First Saluki Type
shaaark replied to marshman's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
I agree with that. I don't really know, and haven't really looked into it, but I'd say that the first saluki type dogs could easily have come to britain with the returning crusaders, along with arab horses, close to a thousand years ago. And the reason that salukis were given more exposure to the public was the fact that florence amhurst, and other british dignitaries etc, were upper class egyptologists that were held in high regard, and better able to give what many people think of as the most beautiful dog in the world, a more popular platform, than less affluent commoners. Like I said, I -
Just read it, some cause for concern I think, and another reason for fox control

Is it possible to work a 7 month old pup katchum. And is it possible to really test a 11 month old dog. I will say this I've talked to plenty of lads who have owned and worked.both lines of the dogs I've got here now going back yrs and yrs. And how much they cost me is my business. But I recon I've got a lot more chance of these 2 dogs doing what I want next season. Than if I bought them from non working dogs. Would u buy a pup from NON working parents. Are they golly line dogs you own?is it golly line that got saluki in aswell? May be wrongThink your on about a dog called billy mateHe do -

There are enough people that know how to bring a dog on properly, i e, not rush it, not try it at 'teeth' at 9-10 months, don't expect or try to catch 15-20 rabbits on it's first night on the lamp etc, that keep going back to hancock. They must be the wise ones -

Yeah had exactly what I described, re clown/lying, happen to me a few years back. Litter advertised as deer/grey x deer/grey/whip/grey. Went and picked a nice dark brindle bitch when the pups were 5 weeks old, paid my deposit, then as we were chatting he let slip the sire, who he also owned and was there, was deer/grey x saluki/whip/grey. I left it at that. Personally don't see anything wrong with going to hancock, you know what you're getting, plus he's got a litter of reverse 3/4 breds due about now I think. Anyway, good luck -
Looks a nice place to let the dogs have a good run

I see hancock breeding a litter of 3/4 collies only one this year he reckons.how much does Hancock charge for a pup.300. Less for blacks though.I don't mind paying it, atleast I know exactly what I'm getting and what each sire throws. Plus all bitches you can track back to where and what they are out of, two bitches Iv looked into have been from cracking line of greyhounds. Just gotta wait for the pup to be born now. so all in one of his pups would cost me about 500 euros feck that their must be someone in Ireland going to breed collie lurchers but 3/4 collie is what I'm think or there abou -

Good reply -
Nice terrier . I'm not saying that ALL bull x's are the same, as they're obviously not. And I don't mean some of the really athletic type pit/staff x greyhounds either. Also some lurchers with a bit of bull in are cracking dogs. But I just don't see the point in them, just bull/grey. Although I will admit many of them look impressive. Just my opinion
