  1. I agree bullx100%. . . .. that's the litter i've got my eye on, him or his brother. And I know looks don't mean toffee, but I like the fact that the litter threw a lot of black and tans. I wouldn't mind a bit of uniformity in the pack lol. I can see this getting out of hand Out of interest, what height are they M.P?
  2. Funny though, that if you did that to a fox in the U.K it would be perfectly legal. . . . as it's not cruel to kill them with a bird, like it is a dog. . . .
  3. It's funny how certain things make you feel. I've killed a huge number of things, of all kinds of different species, and in a massive variety of ways. . . . . . But someone once told me that doves pair up for life. . . . .and after that I could never shoot doves. I've since found it's not actually true I've also let plenty of things have best after they have given some real good sport. And J.B and I have a bit of a tradition of releasing the last doe we bolt with the ferrets, Had a funny moment sat on a mountain side one year, with the two of us, our soon to be released doe, and
  4. I think some of it is just her particular character, she is a real person centered dog and loves to be about me, p-ossibly that might change if she is in a small pack. The gps are a fairly ok price now, and it's just that extra piece of mind. Also it would be handy for the runners when in the big woods.
  5. Aye, it's going pretty good so far BH. As for my future there, I'm not sure. I love the place in many ways, but it has it's limits and I would love to try my hand elsewhere. However, without formal qualifications in Game Keeping. . . . i've got limited options. If the right job comes up i'll go, and i'll go anywhere in the country. I'd love to head north if i'm honest. But I did just get an invite to Madonnas Ashcombe shoot for tomorrow, so maybe she needs a new keeper lol. I'm glad it's going well for you mate, and you're right, the cold weather would be very welcome!
  6. She will hunt off a way if she needs to mate, and I do have to be a little thoughtful as to where I take her, but she's nothing like a pure beagle, even though she is 3/4 bred. She is pretty biddable, and I can call her back for the most part if really need to. I take her into some pretty big blocks of forestry and have had her hunt something out of hearing , but when she has lost it she back tracks sharpish. I do plan on getting a gps if i do get a few more though.
  7. I have heard some very good things matey. Can you tell me more about your dog? How he works, speaks etc?
  8. Sorry, you must be the other lad from that area with a pup and 55 farms.
  9. Sometimes none. Sometimes blood at nose, mouth etc.
  10. I just wanted to blame the Chinese Mal.
  11. It already kills domestic rabbits.
  12. Well. . . . it was first spotted in China in the 80's . . . . so my money would be on man made. It's a bit different that mixy, in that it's incubation period is something like 2 days. And most die from it. The thing is those that survive it, then carry it, so give it to others, rather than pass on an immunity etc like Mixy. And it can spread rabbit to rabbit, and using another host, and from contact via inanimate objects (i.e the ground). It's a b*****d. It totally wiped out a place near us for miles and miles.
  13. Agree fully. I respect every rabbit killed and make sure non is wasted. I don't get people ( morons I think they called) who just kill for the fun of it. If you goner kill it use it otherwise get back to your xbox Atb best and respect every bit of nature When I was a kid. . . I was told. . . you can only kill them once.
  14. I never feel any guilt ... it's as natural as it gets. We're all guilty of far greater crimes. . . . However, I never get folk who enjoy killing stuff. . . . the actual killing. I think to have a little empathy and respect, goes a long way. One day we'll all be pushing up daisys. . .with the rabbits nibbling those daisys and shitting upon us It's the circle of life . . . .
  15. Think it will be bait stations and night vision, that's their usual M.O.
  16. Yep spot on aren't they, mine goes in my rucksack Until you snap the head digging through rock
  17. So, we are now half way through our driven days. . . . and so far beating last years average by thirty birds a day. Had our lordships day today. . . . the weather was terrible, no wind etc, and things went awry for the first two drives (often happens when the gun team is too busy chatting and drinking, than getting in place . . . . ). . . in fact the first drive was the worst i've ever seen on our place, although the hit rate was 100% . . . . Things picked up by half way through drive three, and drive four was a good one. That left two drives after lunch, and I was still sweating at th
  18. Half way through the shooting season . . . .

  19. There's nowt like a day out in the big forests, and rough land. Have to admit, it's hard to beat good hound work also. Any form of proper daytime 'hunting' will do me, whatever dogs we're using!
