  2. Thats a fairly arrogant statement. I think there is a massive difference between a pair or more of dogs running it and managing to hold it against a fence, or hedge or generally wear it down enough for the man to get in (I believe that scottish deerhounds were pretty much always doubled up or more) and a single dog running it and pulling it mid run in the open. There is also a big difference between red hinds and red stags and an even bigger difference between a small stag and a f*****g monster. I would never doubt that folk have/do take them, in the right situations, with the right dog
  3. So one dog grabbed a charging bull bison weighing as much as two grown red stags, on the ear and flipped it over? Simple as that? And we are all weak hearted for not trying it?
  4. You've honestly seen a full grown red deer stag pulled by a single dog in a fair run (i.e not against fence, stuck in hedge, stream etc)?
  5. All the folk suggesting that x, y or z type of dog could probably do one. . . . . have you ever actually been anywhere near one? Weighing in over 500 lb and standing 50 inch + tts? Moving flat out, thats some force!
  6. Seems more now here cos they are bucking etc and with the warmer evenings they are siting out more. Seemed to really drop off early-mid season, sudden slump. Still did well enough tho.
  7. Its been all over the shop for the last few years and this year is particularly bad. There were catkins and buds on the trees in december. Half the squirrals didn't hybinate. Stuff started to pair up and mate really early and by mid-end of feb it was spring here. Now we got daffs, new nettles, baby bunnies, song birds, and in an hour walk yesterday i saw 15 rabbits sat out feeding in the warm eve. Spring is here folks, and it sucks, but at least there is fishing, and mink and squirrel hunting you can do with a clear consciouss
  8. It'd be mental, pure mental. Would be some dog that even contemplated it on its own, let alone did it.
  9. Theres usually six ferrets in together so a whole rabbit gets munched fairly quick.
  10. As long as they are safe with ferrets, take them a long, you never know what they might start doing, some staffs will mark, bush up rabbits and even make the odd catch. Even if they just barrel over and grab the rabbit in the net or scare rabbits back to ground, its a start. And they wont learn much in the house or kennel. Just make sure they are not going to eat the ferrets 100%
  11. Ruby - 4 yr old albino jill Kitty - 4 yr old polecat jill (sister to Ruby) Tilly - 2 yr old silver jill Poley/Lilly/Little one - last years polecat kit jill Chunk - last years polecat hob kit Bear - last years sandy hob kit The last three are two litter mates and a one from their mothers litter sister to the same hob. . . . . And i'm looking for a vac hob if anyone knows of one for sale?
  12. See thats fascinating dont you think, aged two, never seen a rabbit before and not only goes down but tangles with the bunnys and kills them/bottles them up. Ferrets are great
  13. you thiught it was illegal to lamp in the uk ......thats how i heard it all not nut sack well im just goin from what usless ametures from england like u were tellin me. So you started hunting at 16 had several dogs by the time you were 20 only a few off them were real uns so you get rid of the rest. Because you do a few nights a week you have the experiance and knowledge to know that these dogs (that you dont even know any background or breeding) are the best and engish men are useless and ameture. Christ all mighty mate...Me thinks you must "GET ON THAT BUS" atb
  14. Any f*****g breed will do, just so long as both the dam and sire and as far back as possible on either side are doing to a high standard the job you want pup to do.

  16. Jesus get over yourself. Post stuff on an open forum and deal with the replies.
  17. Think you might be right, seems very common in whippets.
  18. Get someone else with you, its much easier. Someone holds and reassures/calms the dog and the other fires a shotgun at a distance, moving closer. All dogs should be broken to the gun - less hassle them.
  19. One trick is to smear some egg yolk on their belly, they get some intent trying o lick it off they dont notice the clipping.
  20. Aye i was talking about 'new' ferrets. If the ferret doesnt know your smell or you, then i wouldnt grab it when asleep as it might wake up and freak a bit and bite out of instinct. My ferrets, knowing me, are fine to be picked up when asleep, and i have one that sleeps wierdly deeply, you can pick her up and talk to her, move her about and she looks dead, and then suddenly wakes up and looks very confused!
  21. This person seems to have special needs . . .

  22. Aye thats seriously dodgy! And add to that the fact that it will cost 500 million quid plus, during a time of serious recession!
  23. “We have a fantastic wildlife volunteer who is incredibly knowledgeable and that helps us a lot.†You can just imagine the tofu munching, bobble hat wearing, pant sniffing, do-gooder that has volunteered to be the polices widlife 'expert'.
