  1. I feel for you mate, i got 10 here at the moment, were in three runs (kits, jills and hobs), which was a pain to keep em all clean, but now at least the jills and kits are all in together. But aye, feeding is mental, my freezer is now empty of rabbits and they are living on pheasant and trout. Roll on winter!
  2. By the way, i though you'd had a religious experience.
  3. It's going to vary depending on how high the bird is, how far away, and how fast (i.e what kind of bird). Basically you want to swing through the bird, whichever way it's going, keeping moving and firing as you pass in front (judging how much by how far the shot has to travel). A days clay shooting is a good way to get a feel for it.
  4. Assume you mean feral rather than wild? There are a good few about, most 1st gen, escaped or lost workers, but i believe that in several areas there are fairly long standing populations of feral ferrets that are breeding (and thriving) with no wild poley blood. Also most of our 'wild poleys' have a good chunk of feral ferret blood in them. We only usually see em around here when they get killed on the roads. I would be interested in a feral born kit, but taking a feral ferret that is surviving well in the wild back into captivity? Bit too harsh for me.
  5. As long as he has manners, no harm in it. Break him to ferret first and let him watch the whole op a few times before you let him pin them, and then let him hold them. . . .and eventually net the whole, but don't put the peg in, slows rabbit down a bit and gives dog an edge, then no net on main whole etc etc
  6. Sounds like a bite from charlie not a cut, could easily get infected! Hope the dog makes a swift recovery mate Charlie? Twice the size of a 13 month whippet? That's either a pretty big red coat, or a midget whippet.
  7. Could well be mate, but i have seen tame ones (usually in the states), but that aint even a mink x, thats a mink.
  8. Look at the nose, eyes, whiskers, white dab under chin and general head/face shape.
  9. I run one mate, and he does for me. When it comes to ferreting, and general mooching, our team, which is a whippet, a 5/8 3/8 grey/collie and a bull/whip x beddy/grey, seem to be able to pull most things off between them, and are learning to work to the best of each other strengths. Like you said, i think a lot underestimate the whippet as a breed. . . .
  10. . . . . and that's why you don't f**k with Spetsnav or rob that dudes house.
  11. Aye mate, they are that good, the british government wants to keep them on these shores, had to sneak a couple up through the Islands, and onto a trawler bound for Holland. . . . . .

  13. That really sucks mate. Out of interest what were the symptoms etc etc etc???

  15. Theone - what's with this new site? It's f****d up, i posted that a bunch of times. I have been in your fine country mate, on the Isle of Rona, off Skye for a week and a bit. I am back now. . . . . who wants ferrets???? Did i miss much?
  16. f**k ferreting all year, there are far far far better and more efficient methods to take the strain during the summer. Apart from some exceptions (i'm looking at you theone) most folk i speak to ferreting in summer for pest control are just doing it to show their faces and managing minimal numbers (due to the variety of obvious factors - rabbits above ground, cover up etc) that don't really make any impact on the rabbit population. What needs doing, needs done though. I myself will be out with the dog and ferrets September 1st and pretty much every day from then on, despite the fact that t

  19. It's not just about what you catch, but how you catch it. Lamping by definition, is i suppose hunting, in that you catch game. But the dogs aint hunting, they are chasing shit. Same as folk, a lot of those who catch stuff, couldnt hunt their way out of a damp paper bag. Stick em somewhere without a lamp and they would starve to death.
  20. You keep throwing the " p***y " word about! But why are you using travelling words and phrases all the time? i.e "Gavers" for police and calling me a " Mothers C*** " on here the other day ? Are you a wanna be ? and not that it matters but no sane dog would go through a hedge strait behind a teathered horse they would find another safer gap. same old people slagging people off all the time on here. "and not that it matters but no sane dog would go through a hedge strait behind a teathered horse they would find another safer gap." That is one retarded statement.
  21. Some of you folk are right c**ts. You are on your permission where there are no horses, with your stock broken dog. Dog goes through hedge after game. Some c**t has tied their horse in the next field illegally because they don't have the facility to keep the animal properly, despite having it as some kind of status symbol. Horse kicks an kills your dog as it come through the hedge. And you just say, oh well, what a tragic accident, i suppose i should just accept that some f****r has stuck a f*****g horse on the land i hunt without anyones knowledge or permission, and it's j
