  1. 17,000 in 1974 would equate to just shy of 100,000 in todays money.. . . . . .
  2. ALl good photos, but that last but one is SUPERB!
  3. Yes mate, you can happily do it for self consumption, just cannot sell it.
  4. Albert 64 is on here mate, as is longnetter who makes good nylon ones. I'm sure a few folk will post up soon, plenty on here make them.
  5. Albert64 makes some very good spun poly nets in yellow or red.
  6. It's just playing matey. I have a jill that as a kit would go nuts and attack your feet, rag your socks and throw herself at you about a foot or two in the air chattering like mad. Came home one day, the missus had her out, and was seeking refuge on the bed as the mental ferret barreled around the room. haha. Now shes so laid back shes horizontal, and a great worker.
  7. Fancy lamping some cats down the town centre mate? Priceless.
  8. Cheers guys! Good luck later johnnyboy, looking forward to getting out with the full team, not long now. Going to look at another farm this week, met the woman in the spar of all places. Fingers crossed there are some spots without too much cover. I'm not even contemplating the mountain till we have had a few good frosts mate, i'm ok, but you got to be at least a foot below them brambles.
  9. Good luck with them. Out of interest what age are sire and dam?
  10. Haha, i was waiting for that! Aye, i was thinking i could have done with you when i was digging. But i think you'd have been proud. Don't worry your wee head, where i went was. . . . like i said, 'Off Piste', it was a bit of a commando mission, not somewhere we will ever go with 3 dogs, and us chatting like old women. Too small anyway. I went there so as not to disturb the lovely coverless spots i got picked out for the 4th. Don't you worry, not a bramble of nettle in sight, got to love them pine trees!
  11. I read the title as 'Bull x running away from fox' and thought. . . . here we go. . . . .
  12. Cheers guys, wasn't bad for a random half hour, 1 set. 2 of those rabbits are being eaten now and the remaining one will go in tomorrow. Then i need to rustle up some more meat. I'm really looking forward to filling the freezer back up!
  13. Well done mate, good day that. Re rabbit killing - hold by back legs, chop once swiftly and firmly on back of neck, rabbits ears will drop down if dead.
  14. Was reviewing the ferret food situation today, and as they say, the cupboards were bare. I bred a litter of kits this year, only five, but the wee buggers ate me out of house and home. Nothing in the chest freezer and no dried food. With 12 hungry stinkers to feed (10 of my own and 2 here on holiday), it's like feeding an army. Anyhow, 3 options, buy some ferret food, which is getting too expensive, a small bag only last 2 or 3 days, take the gun out for a walk, or have a wander with a stinker.. . . . . Surprise, surprise i decided on the latter option. I don't normally start until Sept 1
  15. It's funny, eventually they are fine with it because they know what it means, as said, distract them with something tasty.
  16. Diced, lightly fried in butter and served on ryvita with a nice glass of sherry.
  17. They will nearly always come out eventually. But you are better with a collar on them (mrk3), then you can dig if needs be. To be honest the cover is the greater enemy now. Crack on, have some sport, sort out your problem. Or use your air rifle.
  18. Poley gene = Dominant - in all pure half x litters (haha) all kits will be poley colored. 'Better' than a ferret??? How? I stick ferret down, all rabbits are bolted or killed and dug to. Ferret comes out, is picked up and stuck in box, and off to next set. Keeps on all day until dark. And next day and next etc. How can that be done 'better'. Rabbits gutted and skinned? Don't get it. Please explain.
  19. I chuck a whole bunny in the main court ad same day pull out just the skin. maybe couple of leg bones, bit of spine, rest is eaten including head, rib bones etc. 12 ferrets. . . . . . . like feeding a fecking army!
  20. Pup off working parents that do what you want pup to do.
