  1. there are enough challenges with air-rifle hunting its nice to get the odd bonus now and then Aye mate, i know what you are saying. But i had to stop shooting them around here unless i REALLY needed the meat, as it was getting silly, you could knock off a dozen in a 20 min walk, all from about 20 yards tops. Often from as little as 10 yards as they stood in the hedge hoping you had not seen them. Silly birds. At this time of year i see double figures everytime i leave my front door. I've even had to try to stop the dog nabbing them, as it's just pointless.
  2. Aye mate, i'm a happy man, i've been climbing the walls! Good luck tonight, we did ok last night, first hour was shit, terrible conditions, then the weather got better and walking back across the same fields we picked up a dozen.
  3. do ferrets really have the capability of knowing there is nothing at home just from turning round in the hole and coming straight out,not saying your wrong genuine question,i know they got superb senses etc but iv often wondered about this I would say that a decent ferret does. It's a bit hard to test now as with the dog marking, the ferrets very rarely see a warren with nothing in it. But if one of the ferrets bolts a rabbit (or more) and comes out after it, and refuses to re-enter, you can bet that there is nowt more in there. And the dog always confirms that. I have let the jill
  4. As long as they were shot after 1st October you are all good. But they are about as hard to hunt as a barn door. . . . . .very very little skill involved.
  5. You sure there are rabbits down there. My ferrets all refuse to enter if there is nowt at home.
  6. The mutt is finally in working order again! Took him out on the lamp for a couple of hours last night and decided to give him a good walk before i lost the light today (after work). Went to a scrubby copse where there are very few rabbits and only the odd small sett, and let him get to it, after a while he started to mark a dense pile of dead bramble, before smashing his way in and pushing out the rabbit hidden within. It gave a good account of itself dashing between bits of cover before the dog finally forced it to to ground, where it was promptly evicted by the wee silver jill. O
  7. The old green eyed moster rears it's ugly head once again. I for one would give my right bollock (or left) for that don dog (or a pup out of him), that amount of game to go at, and that amount of bunnys hung on a gate come 3am. In fact you could have both bollocks.
  8. I'm f*****g knackered mate. I'll write it up later. Get them photos off your phone.
  9. Not being funny, but do you not only hunt rabbits and post photos of rabbits? I think you are safe.
  10. Seen radios work well, hung up on known escape routes before first light on shoot days.
  11. Would not touch them with a barge pole. Think they went bust anyhow.
  12. Alright, sorry about the delay in info, i have been away in ze Germany. So, i sent off two all the bits to Deben as they said they would look at it. They got it next day and turned it around the same day, and according to them there is nothing wrong with any of it, they suspect a duff set (entire box) of batteries (collars) which were causing incorrect readings on the handsets. They did not charge me anything for the prognosis. I tested one collar with different batts and it seemed to work fine and give an accurate reading. However when i went to show my old man how it was working a co
  13. She was also mental as f**k in the courtroom and leading up to the trial.
  14. One thing. Yes i pick a kit that i like the 'look' of, i.e, how it is built, how it moves, it's confidence, how it feeds, how it interacts with it's litter mates etc. Not it's markings. And when breeding a litter it's the same, i watch how they act, not how they look, and if possible (like this year) i run them all on, and keep the best workers and give the rest away. And yes, once mine are 'in', they have names, and get played with and are cherished as pets as well as workers.
  15. Colours. . . . Well it's a funny thing, like Jac says, whys can't a guy pick a fancy colour if thats what he likes? Go back a while though and how many working lines of silver mitted, chocolate etc ferrets were there? Even 10 years ago, i don't remember there being anythng other than albinos, poleys and sandys. And there might be good working ferrets in fancy colours, i have a cracking worker who is a silver. But, with any animal we should strive for the best, and keep lines going, breeding best to best. And a 'good working ferret' is a reletive term, just because it bolts rabbits
  16. These days, anyone with the money can do it. Still impressive though. just not my thing at all.
  17. Malt - aye mate, i pray for the cold, it keeps stuff below ground where it should be, especially some good frost and snow, and kills the bloody cover. In some of our spots the only way to get decent numbers with the ferrets is to pressure the rabbits to ground with the dogs, and you will get 5/6 rabbits from 1/2 hole sets. KR - aye it was shit today mate, too hot. Maybe they did vacate, how knows, but if so, they will be back!
  18. Will do mate, getting posted tomorrow, so we shall see. . . . .
  19. You would be amazed how far they travel, it always seems totally dead in some of our spots and then when the weather gets cold it suddenly starts getting better. A lot of ours are in the bloody maize fields which are still standing for a good bit yet. And if with you it was as warm as it was here today . . . . . . . i really woulnd't be surprised if they are off and about somewhere. b*****d things.
  20. Well that may be true.. A lot of the ones that don't have the will power to stop and chose not to have a belief system, end of dead. I have lost so many of my friends to drug overdoses, in the past few years. Including my first born son Todd dead at 28, My best friend and Cousin Bruce dead at 40. My very good friend David, dead at 46, and many more. I would hate to stand before God and him ask anyone of you who I was, and you say a bloke that worked Patterdales from the States..... I would rather have you say Oh yeah he is the guy that we made fun of for posting that Jesus was the on
  21. At 6 month he is going through his teenage phase mate, playing the old dominance game. As said, just ignore the fecker and walk away, crouch down maybe and look like you are doing something interesting. . .
  22. Mate of mine got bit by an adder at one once in the dunes down at a place called Freshwater West.. Brought him back down to earth rather sharpish! Aussie mate of mine, tripping his balls off, lying on his back, got pecked in the eye by a chook. Now THAT scared the f**k out of him haha.
  23. Illegal raves. Brilliant. Just go a long with the dogs and have a bit of fun!
  24. Well done lads, looks like you had a good day, keep at em!
  25. Depends what you are running, but probably whippet. Fastest acceleration over a short distance.
