Alright buddy, at least you were out, it's the heat and cover mate, the bunnies are still holding above ground, at least they are here! Always love to see your fine pair of collie x's!
-
It's because they are easier to enter and harder to f**k up perhaps. . . . . oh and they are 'in vogue' so everyone and their brother is churning litters out right. left and centre. . . .
-
Ah, sorry for the confusion rp, but you said "work with lurchers", so i assumed that above ground work would be the mainstay. My earlier advice still stands, forget breed, just look for a terrier man who has bred a litter for their own use out of two experianced dogs that are doing everything you want the pup to do, from lines of dogs on both sides that did the same Forget breeds and forget fancy names. At the end of the day it's a 'terrier'.

weasle, you seem to be confusing the argument that speed is not the most important attribute, certainly no more important than many other, with the idea that speed is not important at all, which NO ONE is arguing. . . . . . -
can they be trained to call it off should you think they are gonna go crashing in to something? I can't call my dogs off when they are in chace they go into a trace lol Heard so many horror stories of dogs getting there necks broke or getting serious injuries from running in to things and even running in to roads! is there no way to have it under full control even whilst its running or do they get to much in the moment" to even hear ya? I think most, and certainly most of the best, dogs, are very much in the zone when on game, especially right up it's arse. And to be fair, l

To be honest Rocky, the pure whippets i have seen have been headstrong, independant, fairly tough to train little fuckers. Collie x maybe? been told collie x's are fast but a bit dense when it comes to coursing? found that hard to believe for a collie as I keep them myself. Whoever called a collie x dense. . . . . .well you want to stop listening to any advice they give mate. (p.s coursing is running hares and is illegal). coursing is a chase and a dog chases rabitts so i gues you could call that coursing if you like You are not wrong. But if i said, i w

Your probs not going to like the advice I got earlier then....Been told lurchers are to big for rabbits.. this gets better and better collies are 2 dence lurchers are no good for rabbits i,ve seen 30tts dogs scoop rabbits up for fun ,well but this way a lurcher imo is a far rabbit dog then any beddy/whippet or whippet going on terrain /wind /coat/feet and drive ,their some right numtys on here but they proberly give you better advice then this wollie is Beddy/whip is a lurcher buddy

Your probs not going to like the advice I got earlier then....Been told lurchers are to big for rabbits.. Out of interest, who is giving you this advice? Because they obviously don't know anything whatsoever about running dogs. A lurcher is a cross bred running dog, bred from a mix of sighthound and non sighthound, usually either herding dogs, or terrier breeds. Lurchers can range from a 16 " tts jack russel x, to a huge 30" tts deerhound x.

I think we established this a long, long time ago mate. 'Best' is a very very daft word, but that's old news It's not going to stop folk asking though . . . . . -

Don't think anyone is saying it AIN'T important.it's just not the be all and end all in a lurcher's makeup..yes it does have to be quick enough to catch it's quarry but that's about as much use as it needs to be imo? All the things that Moo mentioned are imo of more significance than just blinding speed? ATB Andy. Yup, and lamped rabbits are often not even that fast . . . . . I would say a very fast dog with crap feet, crap strike, would catch less in a season than a slower dog with good feet and a good strike easily. Like has been said, if not we would all just run long dogs -
Now i KNOW that there are folk out there that have them, but in my opinion it's very tough to get any terrier doing ALL aspects of terrier work. Hunting rabbits with a digging dog can lead to big holes being dug to bunnies. There are plenty of decent working bred russels out there. . . . . but just like any decent bred dogs, you have to do your homework to find them. Pats are the 'in thing' these days, for various reasons.

Hard to beat a good russel for bushing. But honestly the breed is a lot less important than getting a pup from lines of good, well worked bushing dogs.

I know what you are saying mate and the dog needs to be fats enough to get on terms with the rabbit, but it just isn't that simple. You can take a pure grey and a half x collie grey up on the hills or in small paddocks and walk away with more bunnies to the half x no problem. So no it ain't just about what is fastest. It's about a combination of speed, agility, grit, brains etc etc and that certain special something. -

As long as it's fast enough, it doesn't have to be super fast. If that makes sense. Look at the Don dog. . . . . . 5/8 collie i believe, and putting a lot of the super fast speed merchants to shame. -
I live in South Wales. . . . you can't walk ten yards without falling down a bloody badger hole. It's getting silly now.

Ah shit mate, always enjoyed your posts about Ben. R.I.P Benny Boy.

Aye, the theory, created, held and promoted by humans. It's a means of assertion that we are dominant, the most important and therefore have a right to do what we like with the other species. I think in the bible it says something like god created man in his image and all the other animals were created for man. Therefore we are somehow elevated and have free reign to abuse all the other species. Of course this is a judo-christian thing. If you look at most 'anamist' or 'totemist' religions or first people, such as the bushmen, pigmys, native americans, then you see that they m

I think you are right with the first bit mate. I think many anthropologists would argue that love is ultimatly a way of ensuring security through a pack /tribal / community structure etc. ..or maybe love is unique to man because we're the only ones capable of the use of language to describe what would otherwise be nothing more than a raw, primal instinct..? Or is love an emotion only found in humans because we have the ability of a deeper bond due to our superior intelignence, thought process and ability to reason? Possibly, some psychologists argue that every facet of o
