  1. I was thinking about this yesterday. Why does it need to be only one or other? I admit, plenty of folk rely on technology too much, and donthave the common sense, or knowledge to manage without it, but just as many folk dont have a handle on the technology, but also have little field craft. My choice would be using technology to your advantage, AND having fieldcraft, and a good dog.
  2. If the collective 'minds' of THL, were running this country, it would be a horrible place, and i'd be on the first flight/boat/lift the hell out of here An iq and common sense test, before you get the right to breathe our air might be nice.
  3. Best way i have found bar none is to use platic tent pegs with a hook on them (at the top), just wrap the coard around it, then hok the hook into the cord, to hold it tight and you can chuck em about and they never un tangle.
  4. Brilliant mate! I fecking love them and seen them live a couple of times fecking years ago. This was always one of my faves -
  5. The people of THL - love fat birds and defecation. That is what we have learnt today.
  6. When i say used for hunting, i mean, let go when hungry, and let hunt its own prey. WIth a collar on.
  7. They had them where i lived in eastern europe, wolves that is. Feck taming them, funny things. Someone in the village had a bitch lined by one once, all the pups ended up legging it bar one. That one was kind of used for hunting, but it was no retriever, you just let it go, and caught up with it when it had killed something. Not ideal. Maybe from captive wolves it would be different.
  8. he rang me before xmas and asked me to get 50 beyond me Shotgunned? Makes no sense, they wont take a shotgunned rabbit, but want a tree rat? Works out better here if the buzzards eat them and not the poults, at 3.50 a poult, we are probably 'making' more off them than you
  9. Lab- yep, hammer .410, perfect for a lot of the shooting i do. No idea on age, it's spanish i think, i have another belgium .410 here, also hammer, and best of all, a very old (great grandfathers) hammer 12 bore Classy. Paulus - who the hell would eat mangled, lead riddled tree rat?
  10. Got some space now tote if you want to pm me
  11. Actually lab, there were two, that made a run for a tree, the first i shot as itwas running, but the second made it to the tree, which was covered in ivy and i lost sight of it, but knew it was up there. A few good stomps from my size 11, on the tree trunk, and squizza decided he would leap from his high perch at my head Needless to say he never made it past the end of the .410. He was probably about a foot off the end of the barrel, when i split his head in two The rest of the blood on the other tree rats is his PJ - They are buzzard food mate
  12. As for the most part my rabbitng is over, it's time to start the yearly war on the Tree Rats, so i thought i would have a quick hour on the estate after work. Called in to see the shoot captain and had a natter, and then went up and had a stroll around a beach copse. Managed a half dozen, from a half dozen shots, so was quite pleased. And an extra bonus, i noticed that about 40/50 crows are drawing into the cattle barns / feeders, so that should be another bit of sport in the next few weeks
  13. Aye, it's a stocky Well done You do get blue trout as well Can't wait till Sunday, first day on the river
  14. Well i picked it up on the way to work the other day, sat down with a cuppa, opened it, and was greated by your lads mug splashed across the pages Good read mate, any more planned?
  15. Get some rubber gloves, spray the front line onto them, and massage it onto the ferret, the ticks will drop off next day. You will get used to it mate
  16. Nothing wrong with youthful enthusiasm
  17. No mate, must have missed it, i will see if i can dig it up.
  18. Meant to put this up yesterday. Well done mate, it's nice for there to be something decent to read in the CMW, i enjoyed it
  19. Stopping would mean you lose your permission? But you only have a pup now, so surely you are not doing anything at the moment anyway?
  20. We like them to hold them in the nets, a lot of the land we do is rough and nets very rarely purse anyway, so i dont see the point of waiting for the rabbit to kick out, when it would be quicked for the dog to just grab it. Obviously the dog doesnt run off with it, it just holds it until you get there. My lad, will usually use his feet if the rabbit isnt bouncing about like mad. Interestingly a friend of mine doesnt peg any of his nets, preffering to let the dogs grab every one.I I'm also of the opinion that it gives the dogs something to do, rather than stand about all day waiting for
