Anyone Else's Lurcher a Thieving Little Bugger
Ideation replied to Cookie423's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Mine is a theiving b*****d! He has had so many things i have lost count. Some of my favourites include an entire chocolate orange with 'popping candy', a massive bag of love hearts and other sherbert sweets, a pint of ale, a fair quantity of garlic, and any dead body he can get his hands on. Nothing quite like coming home from work to find dog lying full of food, on the living room floor, surrounded by the skin, blood and bits of flesh of a rabbit that he has got and taken into the house when someone let him out for a piss. -
Cheers all, glad you enjoyed it and thanks for the kind words! And yes tomo, that was hounddogg, and he found it. Back down there tomo and wed

Dug to two nests on saturday.

I would purse net everything i could, then divide the area with long nets. The key will be having enough ferrets to ground to get the rabbits moving. To be fair i wouldnt attempt it without dogs, even if it was only a couple of terriers toget toand hold rabbits,as chances are you will be running around like mad men, trying to keep on top of the bolts. I would also want to plan it right so you cando it in a oner. Nothing worse than netting it all and not catching much, and needing to net it all again, this time facing educated rabbits. You will probably find its a number of unconnected warens.

In the truck, and because it gets dark at the end of the day I never claimed the dogs caught all of those rabbits, did i? I have posted them photos before, with a full write up, the lad just wanted to see some dead bunnies and different dogs. And believe me, a dog works harder out all day ferretingfor 50 + rabbits, than it does catching a dozen on the lamp Or were you just looking to pick fault? NO just give the ferrit some credit lol and no you did not claim anthing Fairplay matey,no worries The ferrets were tucked up in their boxes fast asleep, they worked hard

Are collie crosses too clever for the average lurcherman??.
Ideation replied to mackay's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
true , how clever as a dog got to be catch a rabbit day+night .? you dont need all that brain, they think to much, and 95% its only what they want to do not what you to do . And having had colliexs a good 20 years, they are other xs out there that will do the same job ,a 1/4 collie is plenty enough I'd disagree when it comes to day work. Sure nightwork isnt the most cerebral thing, but daytime hunting and ferreting does benefit from a brain. -

I would say that a 3/4 greyhound 1/4 collie would suit more people than a first cross, they have brains as well as speed, but, in the right hands in rougher ground I think a first cross comes into it's own. I've owned both mate and both have their special qualities so to speak. My preference, I'd say a racier type first cross. What are your thoughts on the difference between half x and 3/4 bred and lurcher to lurcher bred dogs that work out as half x or 3/4, if that makes sense. My 1st choicewould be lurcher to lurcher, that works out about half / half. -
100 %. It's who you know!
-
He's actually a whippet, and it isn't racist, because he is black He is the same one in the top pics with the rabbits and the bottem two are - collie/grey x whippet bitch and collie/grey (lurcher to lurcher bred).

f**k me, you can moan can't you To be fair, the american has been singer did have the best selling song by a female artist in the history of the world. . . . . . . You are complaining because people on here are not talking about what YOU think they should be, or want them to be. It's like the kid in school who throws a paddy because the other kids don't want to play the game he wants to play. And you are trying to blame dog men for the fact that folk find it more interesting to discuss a woman od'n on drugs, than a fieldsports writer. That's right,it's the fault of the lurcher own

He might have mentioned bunnies. 'Kills' suggest different (and illegal) quarry. To be honest, many decent rabbiting lurchers very rarely kill anything. Just a tip for the future. Bottom two are a friends, but excellent lurchers.

I agree with all apart from the shaving.

Yep, missed that point, take the knocks better, rarely injured, tougher hides and good feet, more so than their racier counterparts. And feck me, when you need to mention the patience. All the best ferreting dogs i have seen have been collie blooded and so much ofthat has been their patience, and brain, being able to read whats going on and do what is needed without command, becaue they are thinkingitthrough, not just reacting to your commands. -

Like has been said, sometimes you have to accept you have an out and out killer on the end of the lead, and need to treat it accordingly. Now most of the time that all well and good, cos the man holding the lead knows what he got, and why he got it, and handles it accordingly. Sometimes though, just some bloke end up with one, and it usually goes tits up. As has been said, if the dog is worked a lot, or not worked enough, and knows xactly what its job is and what you expect, sometimes (often) they find it difficult to grasp the difference between work and leisure time, and may not have any con

Does this chap breed beddy x greys often then? I may be looking for a bitch pup in the future.

I'd say amongst certain groups of folk, the collie blooded cur is as popular as ever. FOr the land we work and the kind of work we do, a thickset, heavily collie blooded dog is great, and will put more game in the bag than a racy speed machine (most of the time). They also don't break as easily. -
Cheers matey, you are not too bad yourself

There is room now.

Kidnap their children?

Feck me there is some shit being spouted on here. . . . Apparently . . . If a dog is well trained you dontg need a lead. A bullx being used for teeth etc, is fighting for its life everytime you take it out. and If your dog goes for a terrier that trys to start on it, despite giving you several seasons of good graft, you just bury the f****r same day. Special needs night?

I know mate, it's heart breaking I didn't menation i went our for a wee jaunt today as well To be honest though, me and the dog are both falling apart. At least the ferrets are holding it together, although they are coming into season, maybe in protest. As much as i love it, roll on the seasons end, i'm gonna sleep for a week

I love hunting and do a lot, but sometimes it's nice to talk about something else.
