If it's worth fifteen. . . . it's got to be worth twenty. Now where's marki brick when you need him . . . . .

Aye mate, and i been aiming for ten. . . . . . Double spacing might help?
-
f*****g hell. To get a response like that, that quick, from someone who is usually very level (if blunt). My money is on the guy being a jam rag.

I'm not trying to knock you matey, it's just in general, rabbits very rarely like to run across fields, prefering to run a long the edge and drop back into another warren or cover. Obviously it worked for you though

fiesty pheasant terrorises staffs villagers . . . !

Aye, CMW are a bunch of retards. I'll go down with finn. . . . . end of problem. -
Don't see what that's got to do with anything. The point is, why would landowners WANT a healthier and stronger population on their land? They wouldn't. When dog men say thier dogs are better off going after the weak and older quarry for the 'greater good', what does that say about the faith they have in their dogs ability? Either way, there shouldn't be a problem in how hare are hunted, be it coursed or shot. Are you a kid? The more you speak, the less clued up you sound. No offence. Your last comment is just thick. Jesus wept Ideation, are you into kids or somet

Just for the record, Gem does retrieve, just not to me haha.

See i'm a pursenetter. I love laying purse nets, and could lay them all day. Also if left to my own devices, i can lay them rapidly, and well. I like seeing a rabbit bouncing about in a net, and like the excitment of dashing here and there, foot in hole, new net on, rabbit out, net sorted and round neck, over and again. Also if i used long nets, i would probably spend more time untangling the bloody dogs, than rabbits haha. And our land just doesnt work with them, as we rarely do hedge rows, and there tends to be a lot of ground cover. On our home ground, and where we have been working

Here's the double.

Same, don't use long nets, our land doesnt suit it, but a stop net is handy for cutting off a gully or running through a hedge IO - I would have imagine they would have run a long the long net rather than into it?

Well done maty That whippet looks the spit of my mates. And i like your hat
-
Well done lads I agree with cookie though, normally i would zig zag the long nets etc, as the rabbits tend to run a long the edge of cover etc, rather than out across the open. But obviously works for you

Well, this weekend, I had a very generous invite from Deep Earth, to come up to Yorkshire and have a mooch about with the dogs, and see if we could catch a few tricky bunnys on one of his farms. He had warned me that the little buggers were elusive to say the least, and he wasn't wrong. I picked up Gem on friday night, to give us a bit more back up, and come saturday morning, FInn, Gem, two jills and myself were on the road early doors, with a bacon sandwich and some tunes helping me a long. It was a b*****d of a drive, with road closures, and general traffic nonsense, so i was a little la

I am of the opinion that a good collie will do pretty much anything you could ask of it (within reason). My first ferreting dogs were collies, and they were spot on. The point that PJ was making i think, is that trying t raise and train any TWO dogs at the same time is a fecking nightmare, especially two intelligent, male dogs.

How do you keep your ferrets entertained

Times cross word and a joint. -
I wasn't really arguing about wheather it is sporting or not, i mean, most 'sports' at the end of the day you try to do everything you can to tip things in your favour. I was more just suggesting that i find it hard to see it is 'hunting'. But that's just my view. I don't condem it though. I guess like most things, it's less what you are doing, and more how you do it. I see a lot of folk involved wit fieldsports, that if you dropped them in 'the wilderness' or even just the british countryside, and asked them to fend for themselves, would starve to death, or end up poisoning themselves, but th

Now i'm not being funny, or incitful R.Docks, but you are a fairly frustrating man to have any kind of disagreement with (just looking over your previous works). SO. . . . . I grew up around shooting estates (my old man, being a well respected spaniel man) and so i have seen a good few hare shoots, but i have never shot a hare in my life, it's just not my thing, and that goes long before i ever got into running dogs myself. I was not suggesting that someone who shot driven game was 'less of a sportsman', what i said was that in my eyes (and we are all entitled to an opinion), it'

so speaking of hypocrisy 75 rabbits ferreted in a day is worth a slap on the back then? guess sometimes it's all about the numbers. Come on danny boy, you know what i am saying. People can do what they need to do. I was not saying that killing large numbers of them is evil and wrong, sometimes it's just a neccessity, but i was pointing out that seeing large numbers of a species like that killed in one go, will always raise blood pressures in some folk. Rabbits don't seem to have the same affect, nor do rats, but that's just life. We had a similar one with the boar here, there wa

I think it's the mass killing. It's like a driven pheasant shooter, he isn't a hunter, he is just a shooter. Same with hare drives, it's not hunting, it's just a cull, a means to an end. Fair enough when and where it needs to be done, but taking a lot of pleasure in it, and thinking the numbers mean anything? It's pretty incredulous that lacs etc got such a hard on over coursing, and yet never really kicked up a storm over the drives. There is a definate beauty in a good course, whereas i totally fail to see anything other than unfortunate practicality in a hare drive, it's not ev

I totally understand the need to control them etc, butwhat perplexes me, is that some folk actually find it an 'enjoyable sport'. Its like the difference between enjoying hunting an animal, and working as a slaughter man, a neccesity yes, a challenging sport? Not really.

Anything asking about the best x / breed for anything.

When it comes to mooching about for bunnys etc, i would put my whippet up against most other dogs and feel happy i would not be embaressed. He has a nose like a hound, will find any game, any where, and so far has taken everything i have shown him. He is hard as feck, although his body sometimes fails where his head says keep going (i.e thin skin, fine body). He isnt the fastest whippet in the world, he sure isnt a racer, but he has endless stamina, prey drive through the roof, and an awesome tempremant in the house. His biggest flaw, is his work ethic, he just doesnt know how to relax, if
