  1. My lad (pure whip), looked like he had bull in him etc when he was young, he wa a thick set lump of a dog, but he now looks like a whippet, albeit a tall, strong whippet. Could be either, time will tell.
  2. It's everywhere these days, and even worse is the VHD. Taking in what i have from folk all over the country, over the last few years, our rabbit population is fecked. It's nigh on dying out in some areas, and then the areas that still hold are getting squeezed badly by everyone trying to get a piece of the remaning action. FIve years time, and we could all be lamenting the loss of (in my opinion) our finest quarry.
  3. Be very very very very polite and respectful, dress reletivly smartly, and use your brain, i.e if there i an obvious family sitting out, dont be killing right next to them. And if someone approaches you, explain yourself simply, but DO NOT enter into any kind of argument etc, just ask them to please address their concerns to the owner. If you are smart though, most folk won't really know what you are doing. Done plenty of public ferreting, and you just have to hope you dont get a screamer as someone walks by.
  4. I remember the first time i shot a rabbit, i was too small to hold the gun, so my old man knelt down and rested the barrel on his shoulder and i held the butt, aimed and squeeed the trigger, must have been like 5/6 something like that, and i remember hitting it and feeling so so so chuffed, and carrying it all the way home to show my mum.
  5. Born into it, my mum was still going out with my old man when she was 8 months pregnant, and within a few weeks of giving birth was back out, with me in a sling. Some of my very first memories involve hunting.
  6. Think about the number of folk out with dogs, and hound packs, bushing packs etc etc. Wouldn't we have had a 'Big Cat Collision' by now. Same with road accidents.
  7. Love the dogs mate. whats the nearest one? Collie/grey/whippet How are they at Bury marking? i suppose they would have a good nose on them? The collie/grey X whippet bitch marks well, as does the dog, that is collie/grey x collie/grey. The bitch is a cracking ferreting dog. I'm interested in this cross, i have a decent whippet dog here, that i would love to throw over a good half x collie / grey.
  8. thanks pal. in comparison to other whippets, in my opinion she doesnt look as good. considering she has spent around 4 months of her young life house bound, i think she will be 4 months behind other dogs her age in the muscle development and over all physical looks. shes getting there though. JUst build her up slow over summer mate, lots of road walking, free running, and some swimming if she likes the water. That, a long with a good diet and she will be rareing to go come september!
  9. Well done for sticking with her mate, i'm sure she will reward you plenty in time
  10. You are not a lone buddy, whatever else is going onin lifeis forgotten at that moment.
  11. When you say 'can't' get in to the holes . . . . . how hard you trying?
  12. Damn you steve , can do wed, thur or fri, but tomorrow is a bit late notice, at least to get up there for 6.30. It means a 3 am start, possibly earlier.
  13. The maddest part was the mink had less distance to water but decided to go up a tree Steve, strange to say the least. Yer i still don't get that.
  14. Aye it was a bit mate, first we have seen on the property and it gave johnny a chance to show off his climbing skills, and gave the dogs something different to do.
  15. Take yesterday for instance mate, one of my favourite days all season and a grand total of 3. And a mink . . . . . But the dogs WORKED all day, rather than just standing about.
  16. Beddy doesnt add speed - it adds coat etc.
  17. I thought it said 'raping' and thought . . . old news.
  18. Many of my most enjoyable days this season have been for a half dozen rabbits,
  19. I think where it falls down is that so few have seen decent gun dogs at work.
  20. I would say a beddy x would be a better farm dog.
