  4. It was a good price but remember, it is an Auction and prices are set by supply and demand you can easily become unstuck . i no longer sell any thing there because i have learnt the HARD WAY.
  5. No , they are sold in the feather, last week some Rabbits made £11.50 a couple this week they made £5.50/ 8.50 . Pheasants were 50 pence a brace after Xmas they will make 5 pence a brace and a lot will remain unsold.
  6. I looked at the market guide yesterday [Melton] and shot Mallards made £13 to £8 a brace , Teal made £4 a brace.
  7. To be honest Terry the season has never started for me , there is not a rabbit to be seen any where , it was a real pleasure to be out among a few again.

Had a morning out with a lad who was once a very popular member of this Forum , though i have a lot of once good land there is nothing on it and this season has been a total washout , out of the blue the fellah got in touch and asked me if i would like a day out , LIKE A DAY OUT!! I f***ing WELL WOULD LIKE A DAY OUT , on the way there we a a look at a field that borders the property we were going on and there was dozens of rabbits sat out and a few looked like they were bucking ,and it looked to me a Rabbiters paradise, When we started the Rabbits were reluctant to bolt and most had to be

    Long legged Turkey 25 lb £2 .25 lb Geese " " 10 lb 4 . Ducks 10 lb 1 50 Cockerels 10 lb 1 5o A lot of Cockerels in and all the Birds were well turned out, i did not stay to long but i think i saw the sharp end of the prices and expect them to go down later to-day Pigeons made £ 1 .50 a brace and pheasants made £1 a brace but it was early days with a lot of birds to sell so they will go right down in price, sacks of Roots were £1 a sack , good Cabbages were a £1 for 5

In the 60s a bloke would come round the pubs selling it there were two types one was Piping and the other was Hodge, Hodge was pressed , it cost two and half pence a tub and was eaten cold with Vinegar and pepper the same man also sold Pigs feet Sheep, Cow heel was nice eaten cold and often added too Stews, my Mam and sister also ate something called Wesum , this was a cows throat also eaten cold or again added to stews, it was all cheap and tasty snack food for the working folk and most people my age would have been brought up on it because in those days there was nothing else.

    I have no knowledge of the retail trade so i googled it, 23 Butchers a month close down in England and it is expected to get worse in the coming year, that says it all .....you cannot beat the odds and i doubt any Bank would extend on such a venture .

    30 pub a month close in England , there are many reasons but the main reason is that you can buy better beer at a quarter of the price in a supermarket

    If it is a good business why is it for sale and if it is very good one there will be people with very deep pockets after it ,butchers often rely on Personality and trust to keep their customers happy and this is not developed over night , it takes years to achieve a rapport with customers you cannot just walk into it .
