Two out of three this morning things are looking up, this pair were well caught ,straight around the neck hardly a bruise on them surprising really as these traps dish out a right good belt

Never done it before but i have eaten them before and they are very nice grilled on toast with cheese

No idea Eddie i have never come across anything like this before, i have a lot of good land and if i have a pad patch i just go somewhere else and my problem in the past was getting rid of the Rabbits,, this year there are none to be found in Leics,or parts of Northamtonshire and Lincs , the Badgers seem to have been thinned out as well

Been on this place the last few days and had five rabbits plus one for the Fox, there are few Rabbits here but they are well spread out and they favour the other side of the track but there is stock in those fields at present, though there are not of rabbit here this season there is no doubt in my mind that it is a very good place in a normal year. Pastures new in the morning .

Iwas out yesterday to check half a dozen snares that i had set along a railway line i caught two but a fox had worried one and unfortunately my hand had packed up working so i could not take a picture, out this morning to pick up the four remaining wires and had another , i had leave the wire on till i got home for my Mrs to deal with , on the wayback i have to cross a foot bridge and has i did a goods train went under and i stood there in a trance counting the wagons and when it had passed i snapped out of it and thought :silly old twat "

It is not so big Eddie, it is a Bitch and i have trapped ferrets twice that size , i think she fired the other traps, the plates on a Juby have a long way to go before the springs are engaged and that split second is all it would have took for her to stop. Well, catching a 'true' native wild polecat, would have really bothered me, personally.......but what can you do, you cant avoid it completely, when conducting this type of trapping ?? There is nothing you can do about it but some times you get a clue, you will see rabbits sitting out and to me for some reason they look or act
-
It did not kill the Polecat because the Fenn trap has several design faults, though it has plenty of power it is delivered over too greater an area , over the years i have caught a fair amount of ferrets in them and they are never dead perhaps because they are caught at the base of the jaws, on rabbits the only way you will get a clean kill is if the jaws hit the animal straight across the shoulders and ribcage you will see this when you skin them because they have deep bruising mainly to one side along the shoulder and rib cage if this bruising is not there it would have been afoul catch an

A lot of rabbits get struck on the head by Fenn Jaws , this does them no harm ,but when the rabbit struggles the trap tilts and works its way down to the head to around the neck

Yesterday i had two traps fired with nothing to show and todayi had a further two fired with nothing in, whwn i got too my fifth and last trap which was a fenn 6 the dog stopped and stared at the hole , now she has done this before with squirrels ,magpies and a partridge if it was a Rabbit or Ferret in a snare or trap she just lies down and looks away however this was a Pole cat that had been caught in a Fenn and was very lively [all the fired traps had been JUBY ] . I then spent the next hour trying to get her out this was very hard as she fought non stop but in the end i done it and s

My bitch went up in the air with me so i am told , it put its head on my chest and pushed me along the ground its only because it had horns that i got away with it because has it pushed down the horns stopped it doing to much injury the real damage was that it ignited a box of Swan Vesta that was in my pocket giving me some burns that were hard to treat

Had one in a trap this morning and two other traps fired, it was probably mice that fired the traps but we will never know, the Rabbit that was caught had been bitten through the neck but no where else i think a stoat had done this though i have seen the same injuries done by a Cat The reason i went to this place was Blue legs i had a good price for as many as i could get and i picked a lot they were very light because of the dry ground and the warm winds that we have had but i still made a few bob , i had a walk trough some very large pastures and saw plenty more Bluelegs and a good few R

could it be the hot weather drying the bait out.

I have been on several places where rabbits are shot and left , when you are up and running you keep going you do not have time to pick up , to some people it is just another job that has to be done.
-
Nothing like Blewitts in the daylight , when i first saw them it was dark and their texture was like touching a Blue leg.
-
they are not plums and custard , they very much look like blewitts from the top but when you look underneath they are a very distinct orange/gold colour
