Back up the hill and still no luck two traps fired and one of them had a Rabbit taken from it i have not got a clue to what may have had it as it is almost impossible to get one out without depressing the lever, one more go to-night then up they come , when i was leaving the farmer next door came over and told me that his two dogs had gone missing one is a fully trained sheep dog and the other is a Terrier and they went during the night.

This type of Pan to Jaws system works brilliantly on Rabbits coming out or going in but you will get foul catches on Rats and very small Rabbits going in .
-
Nothing doing this morning though one trap was fired , i think this could have been a Rat going in , i have had this before in this type of trap it will throw them off and catch them by the tail which they will bite off if they have time . The traps will stay down for a while as the holes are being worked and i have seen rabbits near bye. Ihave a mind to break the lock off of the gate so i can drive up i used to have a key but a new chap now has the Grass Keeping and he don't want me on there , Spiteful b*****d .

Roaming over fields for a lot of years i have seen : or thought i had seen : a couple of things that i could not explain other than your eyes can play tricks on you in the dark or bright sunlight so i put it to the back of my head and do not mention it as i think many other people do , other people , Liars, Attention seekers ,and Fantasists turn these tricks of Light,Mist ,Shadows , and Fear into Spaceships, Ghosts , and big Cats you should never believe a word of what these people say because they repeat there lies that much that they believe it themselves , i would believe them if they

Not to much though Paul , its a right good walk down to the motor , two will be enough.

Yes, i used to ferret it twice a year ,there is usually a lot of rabbits here but this year it is not very good they are very big warrens and a handful of ferrets over the years i have five 80+ days with two of my sons but they don't have the time now days and i cannot manage on my own so i just do a bit of trapping and snaring , next year will be better.

He will be sat in some Nut house somewhere with his coloring book drawing stripes on dogs

I was up on the hill near me this morning , iwas going snaring but sheep had been let in early so trapping it was , i set ten across the top in well used holes a drop in the ocean for this place but given time they will catch, this is 700 feet ASL and when i reached the top with my ten traps iwas puffed out.

You could not hang Hitler on that evidence and i do not believe that your friends saw anything .

Should they receive medical help ? my own opinion is : yes they do: the more i read about the big Cat hunters of England ,the more convinced i am that they are not the full Shilling
-
You have missed my point what i thought that i had made clear , every creature in the world knows when something moves under their feet and react when i was young i worked on tall industrial chimneys believe me when you climb those ladders you are aware of every thing about you if you step on a rung that is a fraction more worn than the others you react, you will grip tighter is you are no high steel and tread on a paint splash it will feel like you have trod on a brick , you instantly know something is not quite right because we are all hot wired for survival when a rabbit steps on that pan

Finding homes for shot birds

I am not to sure about that , i have found out that bad sportsmanship usually comes from people who are paying for the full day and want to squeeze every thing out of it ,, there is a small shoot near to me and it is between two large shoots in theory they do not need to put any birds down just plenty of feedersbut being fair they have put 60 birds down and will limit what the take out , very old school . -

I think the clincher will be at Melton Market to-day, if there are a lot of bird in they will not make much if there are just a couple of hundred i expect them to go at a pound a brace after xmas i think the market will collapse quicker than it did last year, game shooting is getting more popular and more and more birds are being put down , every piece of land around me seems to have a pen on it and i think the situation has reached saturation point as the public will not tolerate rearing and killing birds that are not wanted . -
Over time i have had many traps fired with no catch , Fenn 6s are the worst but it will happen with all traps , there are lots of reasons why this can happen but i think in my case it is the target moving slow on to the plate and it gives them time to react which usually mean jumping back or to side, this to me explains why you have so , so many head catches or in the case of small rabbits rear leg catches in fen traps. To me the beauty of a standard Bodygrip trap is that the animal is in the kill zone as it fires the trap , it has no split second warning as it would get by stepping o

Yes , go down to the Library and ask for any book by the brothers Grimm , they are a lot more realistic than all the Bolux spouted on this thread

I have seen that bit of film before and i thought he never had a clue about ferreting .

I have never seen a grey Wolf but over here people would use a larger loop for our Red Fox even our Rabbit snare Loops are a lot bigger , is the Grey Fox small animal ?
-
Nice to see that one again Ian , still fresh and interesting after all those years

I set BGs for Rats, Rabbits ,and Squirrels and nothing else though over the years i have caught many other things them as any one would do when using this trap, to me the ideal place to set this trap is in a wire fence , if i can i set them an inch off of the ground and on the first notch ,to the Rabbit the trap is part of the fence that it will pass through many times in a day as will many more creatures as they have no fear of fences which are part of there daily life, what Rabbits fear is scent if you watch Rabbits they are constantly tasting the air and they react instantly to an alien s

Finding homes for shot birds

In 1973 i was off work for a long time through injury i was getting £32 off the sick to keep three of us and it did, to pass the time i used to shoot pheasants from the road with a silenced 22 , i was able to sell as many as i could get at a pound each in the feather , i would drive down the A1 and drop in to all the villages then come back on the other side and do the same one day i shot 44 and often got 20 +, you could not do it now because every one has a car and phone but in 73 /74 me and the Mrs put enough away to set us up. -
