Weren't they just, no Phones ,hardly any Cars , Good prices , a £5 fine and a Bollocking for having a 2.2 Rifle or Hare Coursing, all you had to worry about was those 70 year old 8 stone Gamekeepers who would fly at you at any time ,day or night. A breed of man also now confined to the History books. -
I have always used a probe , i know it is something else to carry but the amount of digging it can save you can be huge and i always thought it to be a natural companion to the spade and locator . A versatile bit of kit with many uses.

I know a place in Norfolk where there are some very high inland sand dunes ,twice a year three blokes used to trap them ,i went with them a few times and they really knew there job they murdered Rabbits , and i hope they still do .

I must have eaten a mile of this stuff since i was a kid, boiled with whole Onions Cabbage and unpeeled Spuds , next day Mam would add a Quart of soaked Peas to the Liquor and that was another cheap meal . you rarely see them now days but years ago they were very common and more importantly Cheap, did any one else dine so well????

I went back this morning,all along the A47 was thick fog and i was not hopeful but once there down you have to go , while i was putting my Boots on the dog was sniffing about and found a runner which took her a hundred yards up the hedge ,just past that was my second wire and that had caught another hen , my eighth and last wire had pulled a nice fat buck and that was it .I left six snares down till the morning then that is it for this place until October. There should be something over the next couple of days Eddie but you never can tell , i used to do well at this place, up until two years ago i could get 20/30 with ease but the Badgers have taken the hedges over and i have not bothered here for a while.

You are right in what you say but the rabbits here will recover for next season so a handful will not be missed but saying that the Farmers in this area expect to see me come around at this time of the year good times and bad.

You may have to look hard but the snares are a mixture that had been chucked in the Car boot and had not been straitened out

Ifound some Rabbits to-day and its the first time this season that i have thought i could trip one up , the best side of the hedge was being worked by Badgers so it would have been a waste of time setting any thing there but as the ditch was flooded i did not think the Badgers would wade it but the Rabbits could easily jump it , the fields here are flooded and i don't the Rabbits will be moving much to-night but one would be nice two would be brilliant, any more will be a disaster as it is a mile from the motor straight through a Bog .

Very very good , we done much the same in the early 50s it was brilliant every boy, girl and dog would be out with a stick and the old boys would put their nets down on the Railway side . -
Yes , that is the film , it lasts about an hour and half , it is a good watch a mixture of gentle and brutal, i am not any use what so every on computers but i found it straight away , surely some one can put a link up .

Ithink the have gone down very early this year, i am on a Forum where a couple of lads ferret a lot of Rabbits and their pictures show that they are catching a few half grown ones so they must thrive when they are born early. When conditions are not right for Birthing a doe rabbit will slow down pregnancy and if things get really bad they will reobsorb the young.
