So, Tell Us, What Are Ye All At In The Veg Garden?
Nik_B replied to JohnGalway's topic in Living Off The Land & Game Cooking
Similar to me fella. Its hard enough keepin on top of the growth week on week without making any progress! That is even worse than what I'm dealing with!! We got the strimmer back from the workshop, I didn't have the time to sort it out myself but a blocked carb after 1 hour of use WTF!? I burned through a full tank of petrol and blasted as much as I can tonight and going to hammer the rest tomorrow. There are rocks in the ground and I don't want to run the newish (free) petrol lawn mower over anything that will damage it. Next up is to unwrap the new chipper and get rid of the -
I wasn't 100% sure if he was joking or not lol I know people who do some very rough things with their dogs, conditioning works both ways, what they call negative reinforcement clearly works look at Caesar Millan but for a novice you are going to run in to massive problems with scruffing, e-collars etc. I was told to do things by 'professionals' and all I did was f**k my dog up because I was clueless. I once sent this Lab to a professional gundog trainer, after 5 weeks I get a phone call telling me that my dog is untrainable and to pick him up as it's a waste of money ha ha when I got

Dogs are very easily conditioned both through positive and negative ways, personally I'd be wanting the positive training methods but to each their own. I'd be going right back to basics and work on recall personally, you also want to think what motivates the dog, what is the best thing it can have? If it likes food or balls they you are on to a winner and I would imagine most pups do. Start in the garden or in the house a couple of minutes max many times a day. For example our pup is called Lady, she doesn't know that is her name but she does know that Lady = something amazing. So

Nice pics Malt, I hope we get some decent sunny weather soon, it seems to make a huge difference with this camera.

Thanks, I do tend to overthink things, probably best just having a go and see how it turns out.

Can't link using dropbox anymore for some reason Think I'm not cut out for photography, they're always very slightly blurry I know they're not uncommon but the Bullfinch is still a nice looking bird
-
Wow sounds more complicated than I though, I've been working nights for weeks so as soon as I get a chance I want to start it. Do you think that it matters if you don't pick them on a sunny day? We've had a lot of cloudy weather and rain recently.

Did you add the correct amount of water 5 litres in total?

We were planning to get a small fishing boat but the dog's op ate all the money Next year hopefully

Is it definitely mold? http://forums2.gardenweb.com/discussions/1466308/mold-on-clay-pots There's a few solutions but when you do tackle it you might want to make sure you are getting enough air circulation

you need more green houses they are loving it under that glass I think you are right there, they've exploded in the last few days as we had lots of sun and rain and it's really sheltered. Wish I could take credit for it but it was the wife what dunnit lol This is the first real attempt at growing anything for years and I was expecting a total failure so we're very pleased. Hopefully we'll have the strimmer fixed soon and I can start tackling my way through the undergrowth, this is the tidy bit, at the top end it's totally overgrown, its a real shame because this used to be a ver -

I'll have to do it this way for now, the garden was left overgrown for 4 years before me moved here so it's been a fighting battle to get on top of it. I made a makeshift raised bed so we could get started as time was pushing on and I am too busy with work. Strimmer died last week which is why the grass is so long lol. The veg is the wifes domain at the moment but next year we're planning a much bigger garden plot. -

Not sure if this is working, just a test I give up, gremlins with dropbox or the forum -
Jimmy what kind of dog do you have?
-
My dog developed a nervous problem that cost me serious cash to fix and even then he is still very cautious, same sort of deal except we were at a junction in a road and some stupid cow lunged towards him from behind to fuss him, he panicked and tried to get away and almost ran in to the road....that was my first experience of stupid 'dog lovers'. I do everything I can to avoid other dog walkers with the pup (and the big dog who now gets in to fights) now, I fail to see what we stand to gain from her interacting with unknown dogs, she had the big lab for company and he teaches her her dog

I was shocked to find out that Sea Trout are biologically no difference to Brownies, basically they're just a sea going brownie that then undergoes changes to it's body to adapt to sea life.....am I alone or did everyone else think they were a different subspecies? Lovely fish!

PLP? Is that the Palestinian Liberation Plonkers?
-
They take over Nuthatch nests and compete with them for food so probably affect their numbers. They should be wiped out like grey squirrels and all the other invasive species. They look way larger than a nuthatch Nick.....never seen one so only guessing.....would they use the same holes ? (And yes I know nuthatch make theirs smaller ...) ?? I read somewhere that a study had been done on in their impact on other birds, this isn't the one I read but I just found it. http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/j.1365-2664.2010.01808.x/abstract

They are about here, not been out yet thanks to work but I am looking forward to getting a day or two out

I was guilty of that walked, ran my pup every night to knacker him out. Didn't do him any harm but I would been better off spending time training. I got him in the habit of going to fields every night and belting around then spent the next 3 years trying to teach him not too Same here and then I realised he was doing things for his own entertainment which wasn't associated with me. Also I overdid stuff like recall which made it boring and he would take his sweet time to pick the dummy since he probably knew we were going to do it another 20 times lol, I made it even worse by introduc

Many small 5 minute exercises, know what you are going to be focusing on before you leave the house, recall, retrieving whistle or just bonding/play. Make it very high intensity and stop when its enjoyment levels are very very high so it is left wanting more. I don't care about jumping up at this stage, I just want this pup to be so excited at our exercises it is desperate for another retrieve and then we stop and go home. Edit: This what I am doing with my cocker and I would have done the same for a Lab, I don't have a clue about lurchers or any of those kind of hunting dogs.
