"Sporting" Dog Breeds; Becoming more popular as pets ?
patterdalejoel replied to chartpolski's topic in General Talk
so they throw to the collie there no good for lurcherwork?, what about ferreting?, longnetting?, general mooching?, a dog throwing to a collie is a better candidate for genuine lurcherwork than half the racy dogs out there which would be kept alive due to looks aloneI've seen heavily built dogs lamping hours after there racy counterparts are exhausted, it's a good man that can look at a young pup and predict it's capabilities as an adult. Going with the amount of lurchers in rescues and failures in general your arguement doesn't hold water. i dont know feck all about collie crosses jus -
great pics and write up, enjoyed that. is that merle anyway connected to Hancocks?

"Sporting" Dog Breeds; Becoming more popular as pets ?
patterdalejoel replied to chartpolski's topic in General Talk
when breeding lurchers as you say vixen, say you breed 2 collie x's, surely some will throw to the collie, they will be no good for lurcher work and no good for collie work, so you gonna put them in rescue centres to have a life of misery, or sell it to someone who will potentially pass it around? with best will in the world you wont be able to guarantee pet homes will be good and permanent. what is the problem with painlessly putting the pup to sleep? as i say this is speculation and guesswork on my part as i have never bred a litter, but surely it makes sense??? -

patterdalejoel replied to nothernlite's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
what height is your dog mate? is he a pure beddy onto a whip/grey or what are his percentages? -
she is smaller than i expected and i was a bit worried tbh, but she really is a pocket rocket like shit off a shovel. and she is quite calm and patient listening at the holes, just not the first few burrows good look with yours

put this in ferreting section but thought i might put a couple up in here seen as it was all the dogs work and some of you might not look in there, and i want to show off to as many as possible this was typical land although quite rocky. pup is about 13 month old, and 16/17 tts to shoulder. first x beddy whippet. pocket rocket. caught all these on the run, 50 yard ish courses.

patterdalejoel replied to Ipswhip's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
do you feed just that? i minced some rabbits and chicken carcasses for added fat, and found she was a bit constipated, so had to add veg. -

had a great day out again today, thanks to the kindness of Charlie Nelly 1, top bloke went to a little spot in Pakistan for a Mooch..... Decided to write a report as didnt want TOMO to batter me, and took a few photo's for myself and Charlie anyway.... we decided to have a slow walk around, and bolting what he could to the dogs and chuck the odd net down, but further into the day, we didnt even do that and left it to the dogs. she caught a couple out of this burrow, and youcan see the type of land it is. she really is a little pocket rocket to say shes 16/17 tts. on this warren which w

What about an obediant, calm little dog, doesnt have to be a runner, just a little terrier or spaniel or something, it would make it much more efficient and fun. when i mention a dog when asking for permission, the farmers are quickly in with no no no, but when i say its just a little terrier to help me with the nets (shes a 16-17tts beddy whippet) and they quickly change their mind and say yeah bring her on. and she is a very useful runner, caugh 6-7 bolted to her today over 50+ yard courses, so she is a big help, not a hinderance. just a thought that you dont need to have a big intimi

well, there it is, glad i put all that effort in for 3 decent replies of people that wernt there. its always said how many twats and shit posts are on THL.... well here i am trying to make a decent contribution with good pictures and a lot of effort loading them off the camera etc, well i can say i wont be doing it again for a long time anyway, and its not the first tie it happens. what annoys me more is how more well known members can get 4 pages of replies and appreciative messages on a poor report.... well good luck and happy hunting, as its the last you will see of me in here for a while..
