You won't go wrong with a Nikon Prostaff mate. I've got one on my .223 it's a fantastic scope for the money and the clarity is compatible to my schmidt and bender.

Very much depends on quarry and IMO wind strength and direction. I haven't had my .17 HMR out of the cabinet for nearly 2 years. reminds me I need to get it up for sale -

My father died 12 years ago, like many I would like to have a catch up with him and see what he thought to how things had turned out family wise.
