Because their was other jobs to go to with in the industry when thatcher decided to shut the pits all in one go their was f**k all jobs in these areas to fall back on thats why men like me stood their ground and put up a fekin fight unlike the people today who are happy with their situation no matter how much the politicians keep shiting on us. OK I ask again how much tax payers money is acceptable as a subsidiary before the pits should have been closed ? The same amount thats used now to prop up companys thats makeing millions in profit wile most of their workforce are claiming tax

Thing is Malt £1.2 Billion a year subsidies how much IS acceptable then before the plug is pulled £2 billion? £5 Billion? £10 Billion? £50 Billion? This isn't a state vs private ownership issue it's part of this thread, I've said already I felt for the miners they were caught up in a political argument but I say again it's 30years ago, to have families not talking because of something that happened due to work is laughable at best but more pathetic. The recent protests televised around the world when Margeet Thatcher died in Rotherham/Barnsley were cringeworthy it looked just like the

From my earlier post "By now the industry was losing £1.2 million per day. Its interest payments amounted to £467 million for the year and the National Coal Board needed a grant of £875 million from the taxpayer Taxpayers were subsidising the mining industry to the tune of £1.3 billion annually." That was in the mid 80's, it was sustainable if the British tax payer was to continue to pay money to keep it going. How much would the £1.3 billion a year be now? Take away emotion and you are left with It was not profitable and not sustainable thats the fact of the matter.

You forgot to mention all southerners are c**ts, who've been bred into the life of luxury purely based on the geographical coincidence of where they were born..... And Maddie McCans disappearance....... That B*stard Thatcher has a lot to answer for, its all her fault wish Labour would get in power and put us all back on the straight and narrow. Someone must have forgotten to tell Tony Blair and his pals about the profitability of the pits, he missed a trick there when he got in, he could have opened them all up again and we would have all been living the high life in this cou

Pete as always these great ideas have already been thought of before but never stops me trying. All it takes is one simple idea and bingo!

To some the following facts will be irellvent as to them Margret Thatcher caused everything from the pit closures to cancer to the Malaysian missing aircraft. But here are the facts. "1969 was the last year when coal accounted for more than half of Britain’s energy consumption. By 1970, when the Conservatives were elected, there were just 300 pits left – a fall of two thirds in 25 years. By 1974 coal accounted for less than one third of energy consumption in Britain. Wilson’s incoming Labour government published a new Plan for Coal which predicted an increase in production from 110

Labour tried to do something about it put a cap of 5% on the pay increases which the Unions were infuriated with, Labour could not face the Unions because Labour was FUNDED by the Unions. THAT is why the strikes happended and why Thatcher came to power and sorted the sh*t out.
-
But thats just it, I'm not going to go on and on about where Im from but I grew up on a council estate in a family that was poor and I was force fed all that sh*t for years growing up. My father went out on strike due to the Unions and (admittedly not for a year like the miners) we had no food for weeks and weeks. The street where we lived brought round cans of food to help feed us kids whilst my mom and dad lived on bread and jam. The difference is it taught me a lesson, I learnt to think for myself and not listen to the crap from everyone else about how I should view the world. I lear

well said max once she destroyed the unions with her propaganda ( much the same as the propaganda about coursers etc being spread by the police and bbc etc today) the working class were f****d .if the nation had come out at the time with the miners and brought her government down its a sure thing this country wouldnt be the shit hole it is today . Wow.... You REALLY believe that if the unions had brought down the government we would be better off now? A country under complete influence of Union Rule. Why do you think Ed Millipede is trying to distance the Labour Party from them? I remembe

The facts are the pits were being subsidised to a limit that was not sustainable to any government that was worth it's salt. That's it in a nutshell. The Unions had the country by the short and curlys that had to change. I always note the Thatcher bashes never bring up the fact that Labours Prime minister Harold Wilson closed more coal mines under his government then Thathcer did in hers strange that..where was Scargill then? I just really feel sorry for the people that were caught in the middle like the miners themselves, led by an egotistical idiot into a fight they were unable to w

Don't you think that some of the ex miners should let it go though now? I mean that bloke who's father hasn't spoken to him for 30 years because he chose to go in. Nothing my son could do would make me not want to speak to him for 30 years it's just pathetic.

What a shock...... I've always thought Muslims are such a peaceful race who want nothing than to work hard and integrate into a harmarnious multicultural society. Surely this can't be true?

I like Alonso, BUT to me Jenson is the one I always want to win, love his sarcasim followed by Raikkonen love the way he couldnt give a f*ck. Most drivers when they reach the podium and have the post race interview they put the brand new clean racing unifrom on with all the sponsors names facing forward, not Kimmi he just climbs out the car and sites there covered in sh*t

Can't wait but if it's a Redbull run away with that tw*t Vettle showing his f*ckin finger at the end of every race then forget it. I've watched every race for the last five years but this season I turned off half way through it was just boring and predictable, let's hope this season is more open. It needs to be.

Only just seen this and I'm shocked , I never knew. Never met the bloke but I've always enjoyed reading his posts and sharp sense of wit! God bless to you and your family mate get well soon!!

Well done Matt and thanks for a 1st person account read. As per Lapin I wish they would just allow badgers on a general licence even if they had close seasons. It would then be up to the farmer to control them if he so chooses to do so. I have permission on a few farms where badgers cause a lot of disruption damaging fences etc with their burrowing as well as the perceived threat of TB. It's a shame as the farmer can do nothing just accept it. The amount of times me and my mate have been asked to help get rid of them is unbelievebale but we tell them it's just not worth the risk. I was

To be honest the distance is irrelevant when speaking of safety. Your diagram if I understand it suggests the bullet will ricochet. The shot IMO should ONLY EVER be made once three criteria have been met 1) The shot is within a distance that meets the shooters and bullets capability 2) There is a clear and well defined back stop 3) The target/quarry has been 100% identified. I would say 99% of accidents involving shooting fall outside the three criteria.
