HA! Just you wait. I hear that there is a move to start up a charity to be known as the NSPCP. National Society for the Protection of Clay Pigeons. What harm do the poor things do? They don't eat crops or food plants, they don't break up pasture with their burrows, they don't kill chickens or new born lambs. They just sit in their boxes minding their own business and then you heartless lot chuck 'em up in the air and blow 'em to bits. Downright cruel it is. RicW

Mining bees. Harmless, protected by law. They will abandon the nest at the end of summer so wait until they leave and fill the nest with soil. Ric

What do you get if you cross a Greyhound with a racoon? A small furry animal that climbs trees, runs very fast and seats 60 people.

Question for the Vegans, anti's and tree huggers?
RicW replied to Foxgun Tom's topic in General Talk
Just to stir things up a bit, all and I mean ALL organic/natural beers use "finings" to clear the ale before it's served. "Finings" are derived from fish scales! If your veggie drinks real ale then S/He is a meat-eater! -
Source:- Reload bench. Ackley 17 Hornet is Hornet 22 necked down to .17. Strictly varmint cartridge coyote <200 yds max. Quiet, low recoil. 25gr HP in front of 12gr IMR 4198 gives MV 3585fps ME 710ft.lbs.. usualy single shot but the SAKO action works well as it was designed for rimmed cartridges. Sounds like the dogs wotnots for you! Capable of 1/2" groups at 100 yds Ric

See if you can trace a site about "Coyote Calling" - I've lost it! - these guys rave about 17 Rem cf but they call 'em in to around 50 yards. Not a long range round cos it is very wind sensitive. As said above, 204 Ruger is a better bet, but why f**k about? 223 leads the way, the rest follow

ABSOLUTELY ACE BRO. I AM 61, MATURE STUDENT AT SUSSEX UNI. YOU ARE NEVER TOO OLD TOO LEARN. BLOODY WELL DONE! GO FOR IT IF YOU NEED ANY SUPPORT PM ME. I AM SO PROUD FOR YOU

You and me too mate. Honestly i feel the only answer is a united country sports body, embracing the legal interests of anglers, archers, dog runners and shooters. If not the antis will divide and eventually conquer Just a shame that we seem to do their work for them. It always looks like terrier-men v lurcher-men v shooters v long-netters . . . And of course the really daft bit is that if all hunting were to be banned agriculture in the UK would be f**cked up all over the landscape. The antis could forget their free-range chickens, organic lamb, ya-di-dah, and just to top it off the ve

Burglar breaks into a house, quick shine of his torch round the room, starts stuffing silverware in hs bag. He hears a voice say "Jesus is watching you". Taking a longer look round, he sees this muffled shape in the corner. Goes over, pulls a piece of cloth away and there's a parrot in a cage. The parrot cocks its head on one side and says "Jesus is watching you." The burglar says "Well you're a clever bird. What's your name?" The parrot says "Mohammed". Burglar says "Mohammed? That's a pretty stupid name for a parrot" Parrot says "Yeah well, Jesus is a pretty stupid na

You mean like banning hunting foxes with dogs? Sorry mate but if the antis are agin it they'll find a way Ric

I don't want to get into any arguments about this, but I do have a long-standing interest in military small-arms. The full barrel length fore end was used to protect the barrel from damage in close combat if you whacked some f**cker across the head with it. It also made it easier to "Stack Arms" in camp. The comment about about the Lee-Enfield is interesting. In 1944 the MOD introduced the "Jungle Carbine." This was a SMLE with the barrel cut down by 5 inches, the fore end reduced, and the action lightened. It turned out over the next couple of years that it suffered from "Wandering Zero". The

Just one query here though. Are they on about lamping generally, or lamping foxes with centrefires? There's a helluva difference between a 22lr firing subs with a mod, which is probably favourite for rabbits, and say a 22-250 even with a mod. Bloody stupid idea anyway IMO Ric

There was an Australian guy "Scrubworm" who was a member of this forum, been living in UK, golng back to OZ. His last post on here was titled "GIN RECIPE". If he is still a member you could send him a PM, it'll alert on his e-mail. If he's dropped off the forum it won't cost you owt anyway! atb Ric

Fair comment. I should have thought it through, because the law specifically permits the use on an appropriate range of expanding/fragmenting bullets, and of hand loads, for accustomisation to the rifle with the ammo to be used in the field, and for zeroing sights. Once more Mr L, I bow to your superior wisdom! Thanks. Ric

Have a look at the guard dogs thread. Ric

I cannot pretend to speak from recent experience here, but back when I was target shooting the whole point of the rules on types of bullets/loads was that everybody should be using the same ammo. That way it's your skill as a shooter that makes the difference.

Anybody up to start a move to use Depleted Uranium Shot? Heavier than lead, uses up a waste product, seriously pi**es off all sorts of antis. Can't be all bad . . . Ric

Do you mean his inbox is full of moles?

No offence to you mate but that "1011 Yards" bothers me. If he is that good why not "1010 yds, 2 ft, 10 inches"? When we're talking about seriously long range shooting I distrust figures that are too precise. !000 yds on a range no problem, the distance can be checked to within a fraction of a per-cent but in the field, even with a top-class laser rangefinder, claiming accuracy to the nearest yard over 1000 yds exceeds the accuracy of the measuring tool. Bloody good shooting though! Ric

I like your style. You are perfectly right of course. It was just that the experience at the time felt so strange! A big 1 year old dog fox walks up to me and comes on like a pet dog. I have criticised people on campus for feeding the foxes for just your reasons. And to set the record straight No I have not gone all oochy-coochy about foxes or anything else. Pop up in my scope and if I get a clean shot you are a dead fox. To the guy who said about "the lad . . ." thanks bruv! I'm 61 and it's a lo-o-o-ng time since anyone called me a lad! The dog fox will almost certainly be off up the

Agreed. We have too many rabbits on campus anyway so the foxes are helping out. It's just that it felt so strange having this fox come up to me like that. He was so friendly! By the way, I don't do drugs any more. Been there done that gave it up. Ric

I have just had the strangest experience of my life. As I have said before, I am at Sussex University. I got back from town a wee while back and decided to go up to the student bar for a last beer or two. On the way up I saw a dog fox, who I know has his lair on campus. He was perhaps 10 feet away from me. I squeeked at him over the back of my hand and he walked up to me, rubbed his head on my knee and licked my ankle. I scratched his ears and he went off about his business, no panic just wandered off. Having a fox being friendly towards me like that felt really strange. He was just like a fr
