  1. Thanks again SS. Thanks SS. We live and learn!
  2. Bees, bumble or otherwise, are NOT protected. BUT, you would be better off leaving them alone. Feral Honey Bees, Bumble Bees and Mining Bees are not aggressive and are in decline. They should not be killed except in exceptional circumstances. Just to get the record straight, "bumble bees" as such are not protected. However, some species of mining bees are protected by law. The sad thing is they should not need protection. They are not only harmless, they are a keystone species in the foodchain. No bees? In ten years time no vertebrate life left on land. We need them more than they ne
  3. They learn, trust me. My first Lhasa Apso once et a wasp. BAD MOVE. I had to give him some serious first aid, ice cubes on his tongue, anti-histamines, all kinda stuff. Ever after if I wanted him to pay attention I just had to go "Bzzzzzz". He'd be in his box faster than a rat up a drainpipe. Then my dog is stupid then... because if it moves she have it... Not stupid, just young and naive. My wee dog could catch flies on the wing, he LURVED eating spiders, but after he et this wabby he got dead leary about things that buzzed. Some learn the hard way . . .
  4. nice thread mate agree with you exept wasps instant death for them after bein stung by the little bast***s they drew 1st blood lol I agree with you 100%. Wasps are a genuine threat and unless you know exactly what you are doing with them your best bet is to call in pest control, don't even think about messing with 'em yourself. You could easily wind up dead. Self-defence on this one! Ric
  5. Sorry to ask a silly question but what do you mean by "BP"?

    Bad Joke

European manufacturer's having a tour round a Japanese company. He sees this girl soldering circuit boards, realises she's using the solder dry. He asks her, "What do you use for flux?" She looks at at him and says, "Plix of course"
  8. Ah well . . . the fun thing with snails is to use a catapult . . . Really pisses off the neighbours when some slimey fkr lands on the tea table at terminal velocity . . . Then you tell 'em that's what you get for voting Tory . . .
  9. There have been a few threads started lately on killing spiders, bees and other creepy-crawlies. This whole idea bothers me a lot. It goes without saying that I, as a member if a hunting website, have no problems with killing - for good reason. The way I see it, there are four good reasons to kill. 1. Self defence, or, 2. To eat it, or, 3. To wear it, or 4. Because it threatens your own food supply. I'll get back to self-defence later, and look at the others first. 2. If you go out to kill a few rabbits for the pot, whether you use airgun, powder-burner, or dogs, that is totally acceptabl
  10. I haven't got a laminated thumb. . . Seriously though, as I have said my experience of hunting calibres is very small, but I do know a lot about guns generally. Surely the problems with semi-autos arise because people don't realise that they need CLEANING. Not the barrel necessarily - there are people on here who claim that 22lr shoots better without cleaning - but the action. When I had my semi-auto pistols I always spent more time cleaning the action than I did on the barrels. Take into account the fact that 22lr doesn't have power to spare anyway and if you let your action get clagged up

    spiders!!!!!!!

Snakes are tarantula food I find Snakes a little bit boring I LOVE your spiders to bits! All those eyes! I make it 8 legs, 8 eyes For the benefit of all you scaredy-pants there is no native British spider with jaws strong enough to pierce human skin. A wolf spider can give you a painful nip but the skin is unbroken. Also, if you see a spider walking around, it is overwhelmingly likely to be a male. If you see one in a web it is a female. Sex discrimination in arthropods! Males hunt, females gather - Just like Stone Age human hunter-gatherer tribes! Ric
  12. well it measn that my kids cannot play in the back year on they toys and my puppy cannot go for a wee coz they will get stung I had one last year and it was no trouble, not be long now until the hive dies down. Once the hive dies off for summer all the queens bugger off and start new ones elsewhere. Had no trouble at all with my daughter playing out in garden. They even tolerated me poking about with a stick and camera for pictures and they didn't even react. Thank You!!! Bumble bees are very laid back. As you say, they will abandon the hive at the end of summer and if you

    useing fur

If you just google in "HOME FUR TANNING" you will get links to several sites including one using Native American methods. Basically, salt and neat's foot oil. About as natural as it gets. Interesting project. ATVB Ric

    spiders!!!!!!!

I love spiders! About 15 years back I worked for a knitwear company that imported yarn from Africa. One night we had to open a crate of yarn that had come direct to the factory. Cut the steel straps, levered off the top and . . . A serious spider walked out. This thing was about 6" long, 4" wide, black and yellow. Funniest thing I have ever seen in my life. There's all these guys, hard men some of 'em, running like Usain Bolt in all directions, climbing up the fabric racks, wetting their pants, shouting "get it away from me". Thing is, no kidding, this spider was wearing boots. 4 pairs of 24-h
  15. They are probably mining bees. If so, they are protected by law. They will abandon the nest at the end of summer. Once they leave it bung some concrete in. That way they won't come back next year! They are much less aggressive than honey bees so if you give them space to do their own fuzzy thing they will leave you to do your's. Ric
  16. Thanks Muttle, something similar happened me with my credit card and as you say banks refunded but didnt seem bothered about catching anyone. And as long as your size sevens have very very pointy toes!!!! Twist his head round on his neck til his eyeballs pop out and roll down his cheeks. Seriously, Lucy, it may be worth your skinny blister talking to a solicitor. Half hour discussion is free even if they can't take the case on legal aid, and she can get her exacy legal position sorted. For the record I wear size 9 DM steelies . . .
  17. Tell her to get in touch with the bank manager ASAP. Even if she gets no reply til next week send an e-mail and keep it on her file, with the date sent. Close that account NOW, open a new current a/c in a different name. If she is paid by direct credit transfer e-mail wages office to pay ONLY into new a/c. Keep records of all messages sent. If the bank has allowed access to her a/c without her authorisation they are legally liable for all losses. Don't worry about the delay in responses. If she uses electronic messaging she has proof of dates and times. Contact the housing association immediat
  18. I'm getting confused here. PMS? My ex-wife used to get bad Pre Menstrual Stress but even she didn't get a stack of it . . . Ric
  19. Surely there must be some guitar playing forum on the net somewhere Donk. A place where you can join up as a total newbie to guitar playing & wake up the next morning knowing it all! It works with hunting, apparently! A cynic is a man who sees things as they are, not as he'd like them to be. Ambrose Bierce. Ric
  20. Err . . . Stevie Ray Vaughan? Rory Gallagher? Jeff Beck? John McCaughlin? There'e just so many wonderful gittar players out there, I don't think you can say any one them is "The greatest". Your favourite yes, fair enough. That's a matter of taste. For me it's as much a mood thing as owt else. I have a DGG vinyl of Narcisco Yepes playing Vivaldi's Lute Concerto in G minor transcribed for flamenco guitar. There are times when that feels like the most brilliant piece of music in the known universe and times when it bores my ass off. I first heard Gilmour backing a singer by name of Sid Barratt.
  21. That's what I thought but it was worth asking! Thanks guys 222 is a nice cal mate and good to load for. very accurate It's high on my list of possibles. Nice to get confirmation.
