  1. The context was shooting rabbits when you can have a field full and they don't dive straight down at the first shot, and speed of making a second shot if you don't get a clean drop with the first. Or of course if you're in a trench and Jerry's coming at you mob-handed! I agree it's not directly relevant to field shooting but I asked out of curiosity! Ric
  2. There was a thread on here recently asking about bolt-action vs semi-auto, and several people said they could reload and fire fast enough with bolt-action. That set me wondering just how fast is fast enough? The world record for aimed shots with a bolt-action rifle was set at Bisley in 1914. Sergeant Instructor Snoxall, firing a standard issue Lee-Enfield with peepsights, put 38 rounds in a 12" group at 300 yards in one minute.[/size] Just think about it. Assume he started with 11 rounds - 10 in the mag + 1 ready chambered. He fired 11, then using 5-round charger clips loaded 10, fired 10
  3. Mark - Can you fit a mod with a tubular magazine? Just out of interest? Ta, Ric
  4. Further to your comments about Retrievers/flatcoats. I read a letter from a vet in one of the broadsheet papers a few years back. He said that of all the breeds brought to him to be sedated, castrated or put down for aggressive bahaviour, Labs were by far the most common. People who live in little ticky-tacky boxes with little ticky-tacky gardens buy a Lab, shut it it up all day, get home and walk it a hundred yards down the road to crap on someone else's front lawn then act all upset when a big, intelligent working dog gets bored and turns nasty. Who wouldn't? If you don't work 'em you'ld bet
  5. 1.) grass the fughpig up. It's all very well saying "Deal with it yourself" but scumbags like him should be sent down. 2.) you must have some mates around. Wouldn't it be sad if he got into a fight one evening? And got his balls kicked all over the landscape? I can just about tolerate his violence towards the dog (not really he should die) but if any fckpg threatened my child I'd nail his balls to the wall. Me, I'd set the cnut up for a kicking. Ric
  6. Just found Mueller Scopes on the net. Specs look good. Any comments as to quality? RicW
  7. :toast: mate that made me laugh alot. good read as always fd. its always sad when you dont get a clean kill. contrary to popular belief i'd bet the majority of hunting peoples are not mindless killers I have never met a shooter who did not want to make a clean one shot kill. I'm not so sure about some of the "dogmen" they seem to revel in a drawn-out bloody death. May they die the same way they live. RicW
  8. There's this seminary, where there are monks and nuns working together. One night they get a phone call. One of their parishioners is on his last legs, can they send a priest to give him Last Rites. One of the priests gets a taxi, goes out, sees the guy off. It's after midnight, taxi prices are doubled, so he decides to walk back. Unbeknownst to him this means passing through the red light part of town. He's heading up the road when a young person of the female persuasion stops him and says " fancy a quick one Father? Only 25 quid" He says "No thank you" and hurries on. A bit further down the
  9. Another Side of Bob Dylan. I've still got it. 1966 and it's still one of my all time favourite albums. Ric
  10. I know this is a hunting forum but! I just got back from The Lanes Armoury in Brighton. What a wonderful shop! They've got a Civil War Remington Navy 44. It's BEAUTIFUL. Octagonal 8inch barrel, as new condition . . .If you are ever down this way make a point of calling in. I have no connection with the shop but bejazus they've got some lovely guns in there! RicW
  11. Nun lying in the bath. Knock on the door, she says "Who's there?" Man's voice says "It's the blind man" Nun says "OK you can come in." Bloke with a bundle of stuff under his arm walks in says "Hey, nice tits. Now which window do you want me to put up this venetian blind?" RicW

  17. yes terrible.. is your house mucky!! no its not i dont own a junk yard .just since the mice have been i think the house is scuffy and love the idea of ball braring thats great The really cool bit is that if they don't swallow them they break their teeth trying to chew them and starve to death anyway. Me, I lust love the idea of walking round with a big magnet and having mouses going "Ping . . .Zoom . . .clang . . ."
  18. With all respect Mr L, it's "Don't wind up in court facing a 10 stretch for manslaughter." Ric
  19. 22 Mag is the name the Americans give to the 22 Winchester Rimfire Magnum, WMR. 22lr is long rifle. Both fire bullets of similar weight but the WMR is a helluva lot faster. I agree with your dealer but WMR has never taken off in this country. CCI will soon be importing a new round wirh 30gr fragmenting bullet which should be the dog's dodgy bits though you'll have to go for head shots on rabbits. Ric
  20. Kev - I may have the wrong impression here, if I have then I apologise. From some of your posts you seem to think that HMR is a lower powered round than 22lr. It is, obviously, smaller calibre, but it is a LOT more powerful. The difference is not like that between .177 and .22 air. Think rather in terms of a sub-12 22 and a big PCP 177, say 50 ft.lbs. If you are talking to your FEO about calibres then you need to make clear that you understand the difference between "calibre" and "power". I'm sorry if I'm stating the bleedin' obvious but you wouldn't be the first to miss this when you go from
  21. Just for the record I wasn't talking about any TV program. There is a report in the press today about a woman who has been running a dog fighting ring in Lincolnshire. She - Claire Parker - has been convicted for holding dogfights, cruelty to animals, and possession of three pitbulls. Steve Ibinson, who infiltrated her gang, had also helped break up a paedophile ring, helped the police track down two murderers, and helped close down a puppy farm. He died of a heart attack in Afghanistan while infiltrating an opium ring. The dog fighters were smuggling marihuana and using the dogs as guard ani
  22. Evolcan is right. You really need two guns. 22lr is the calibre of choice for rabbits out to <100yds. You probably won't get a condition to shoot fox with a 22rimfire. You can kill Charlie with a 22lr at close range but you need a centrefire to be sure of a clean kill. Your best bet is to apply for 22lr for rabbits to start and then go for a centrefire for fox after a year or so. CZ make the best value 22 rimmies for field use. Take a look at Guntrader for prices. Ignore dickheads. Ric
