  1. Six teal and a snipe between a mate and I on Saturday flighting a small pond after a days shooting. Absolutely sick I didn't manage to pick the snipe. Fell out the sky like it'd been struck my lightening only to utterly vanish after thumping the ground...
  2. Received on his behalf by an able bodied volunteer! "Unfortunately Socks couldn't be here today to receive this award..... as you all know he struggles with pull only doors these days"
  3. If socks made a knife that big he'd lose limbs, never mind fingers!
  4. Right, fair. I think the concept is forward thinking. But from what blurb has been released they are expected to fulfil a similar role to the SAS in Malaya/Borneo 'unconventional warfare' training insurgents/friendlies and critically actually accompanying these forces in combat. I mean, obviously they won't be tasked with the same level of mission the SAS would, they'll deploy them when needed, but still it seemed these 'special operations' Rangers would be expected to be a step beyond who they are replacing. I feel that if they were serious about this new unit it would have been man
  5. How they managed to get the selous scouts cap badge through all the committees and gate reviews nonsense that is the modern world is amazing. I feel sorry for the lads in the battalions that are to make up this regiment/brigade. It sounds like the but of every forces joke right now. Or do you just transfer if you want out?

I've narrowed down eternity to less than a week!

Given they have a two stage interview process it sounds like a formal process and so I wouldn't expect to hear back straight away. Likely got at least two people at 2nd interviews and they won't make a decision before both have been done but I'd expect to know within 24hours of the last person being interviewed. You will hear back given you got this far, and I'd expect to know next week. Might even get the nod this afternoon if you were the last.
  8. I'd give a kidney for him to be binned only to be replaced by The Mog ! There would be a mass suicide of hopeless anti-Tories as they thought it couldn't get worse.
  9. You've added a T. tttps LOL
  10. Plan offensives to coincide with heavy fog / expand squad roles to include an 'eagle-man' / shine laser-pens into their sensors etc etc. Stiff can reference this tactical brilliance in his next essay if he wants.
  11. What was your main argument out of interest mate?
  12. Wars are won and lost on logistics. Time and again history shows this. But they'll be fighting on their doorstep, if they can't figure out the logistics for that then they really will show themselves up.
  13. From a purely academic point, it would be very interesting to see if tanks are still relevant on the modern battlefield. Recent conflicts, like the 2020 Azerbaijan-Armenian war and the Libyan intervention have seriously brought into question the value of heavy armour.
  14. Nordstream and Nordstream 2 pipelines. They buy a significant proportion of their gas from Russia. If Russia turned off the taps it'd seriously hurt Germany. One of the sensible decisions Sir Tony Blair made was to not allow the UK to become dependant on Russia for energy.
  15. We launch ballistic missiles from submarines these days. Sure Putin doesn't want Ukraine in anyone's pocket but the yanks stationing ballistic missile defence systems there won't stop Russia striking anyone if they decide to.
  16. Germany showing their strategic energy dependence by banning UK anti-armour supply flights to Ukraine...
  17. Pretty sure they just used a trowel. I didn’t do the drains. Im not divulging further details of the drains in case you snitch on me to the council!
  18. Weather forecast for Basra, yellow weather warning of heavy showers of tungsten and distant rumbles of thunder....
  19. Tangible benefits, off hand, AUKUS would be one. That'll be huge for RR up the road. Less tangible, we have a more simple political system which is entirely accountable to the UK electorate. The more complex a political system the less democratic it is.
  20. I do agree it can be done though, Brexit proved that, we tore a spoke out and they really didn't like it. But we weren't dancing to the medias tune there...
