  1. You only have to WALK a lurcher down a country road in lincs and plod show up to make sure your not coursing! And if its not plod its fuking scrap men asking to buy your dog!
  2. If just using hobs i would expect to be digging to 20% of the rabbits. Some times and places i avoid using hobs for this reason but they do seem to get the job done, whereas my much smaller jills work like troopers but just struggle with a stubborn rabbit.
  3. Do you have a retreive command that she understands what it means? 'fetch it' or whatever. I find the best thing is to let the pup have a bit of a mad one and then get something they REALLY want, food if that works or a favourite toy or whatever, let them see what you have got get them excited about it then try your retreive, if they understand what you are saying they should at least make an effort. Small steps, if the retreive doesnt go to plan then break it down into smaller steps. Throw the dummy close and as they pick it up immediately take it with the release command ('dead' or whatever)
  4. Ferreting the shoots spinneys, roost shooting pigeons, pup to train, thinking about breeding my best jill... plenty to do untill march time, then enjoy summer with a bit of shoot work etc untill next september and then the fun starts again!
  5. What is the difference between using a greyhound and a lurcher? Did the sports develop seperately? I read somewhere that the Lurchers were bread by gypsies in Ireland for catching hares for food. Also when they run two dogs does the dog that catch the hare win or are they working as a team? There will be people on here that know better than me, greyhound coursing is all about how well the dogs course the hare or pressure it, NOT about the kill. Points are awarded to the first dog to the hare, for turning the hare (greater the angle the hare turns the more points awarded as the hare
  6. i think they are re-captured many times,to run again Saying shit like that will get coursing men an even worse name! Thats competative greyhound coursing from what i can see, the reason the nearest bloke runs like hell to the catch (on the rare occasion there is one) is to ensure a clean dispatch. As with most forms of hunting with more than one dog, once the quarry is caught the two dogs both want the hare and so its more humane if someone gets there and deals with it. Coursing greyhounds are bred purely for 'the chase' and not for the whole shabang like lurchers so dont really retreiv

  8. I think people dont understand why some would rather do the deed themselves than a vet do it. Personally i feel its more respectable to do it yourself when the time comes than have a vet do it and better for the dog. I see working dogs/animals as mates and if it was my time i would feel happier my mate/partner doing it than a stranger. But the most important aspect is the dog, less stress and faster the better! Its not about beeing 'hard' its about doing the right thing...
  9. In that case ill just go and shoot my pup because its obviously bred from kc shit! have a day off pal, theres still proper working wheatons about to breed decent lurchers
  10. The lurcher has been on the edge of the law for its entire existance, this crap law wont kill it off! But i dont mix in coursing circles so i couldnt say the effect its having, just my opinion. atb

  13. Anyone ever made one and done it? Something i saw on tv last year and really want to do. Heres a link that explains for those that think im a nutter, http://www.kuro5hin.org/story/2006/7/22/225040/700
  14. Working homes prefered, http://www.thehuntinglife.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=135070&st=0&p=1375264entry1375264 pups - £400
  15. I wouldnt like to say either way. You have done absolutely nothing wrong (wasnt 'intentionaly' hunting) however I wouldnt at all be surprised if you were prosecuted, especially if once your dog nailed the hare you decided to take it home (waste not want not). Best advice, dont get caught!
  16. If i didnt know any better i would say you had nicked my pup... Thats an old picture now, grown quite a bit since. Hows yours bred and how old? As with most pups, loves the snow.
  17. I think the answer is, its best to avoid her having too many courses on rabbits because at her age for every time she does is a chance she will develop a fault, even when ready for entering properly easy catches are important so as to give confidence and not develop faults. However the general concensus is that a little bit now and then probably wont hurt, and will teach the pup alot about the field and its quarry. Just try to avoid places madly infested with rabbits. Now I have a real problem! I cant let my pup off the lead without it flushing a hare and then spending the next 15 mins hun
  18. Air Arms S410 Classic .177 with thumbhole walnut stock with Hawke Varmint II 4-12x44 PA scope mounted. Rifle and scope are in very good condition and a dream to shoot and own, ¼ inch groups at 40 meters with Air Arms Field pellets is achievable by even an average shooter. Also included Harris tilt 6-9 inch Bipod (QD studs fitted) and Deben Tracer Atom 6V scope mounted lamping kit. After thinking about selling this now for near 2 months I have reluctantly decided to as its not getting very much use except the odd ratting session. This is one piece of kit I never intended to sell but little poin
  19. Yes, she has quite alot of Rytex blood in her. Shes bred from FTCH DENFORD DANNY OF BELVDEN (sire) and BRECKSWOOD DAMSEL (dam) with FTCH CHEWEKY WOLF as her grand sire. The Sire of the litter is directly out of cheweky wolf. Tails were docked to approx a 3rd of their full length with bitches a bit longer, approx half of their full length.
  20. Ferreting, Pug is an old word for ferret. Some one else will probably know more.
  21. 7 Springer pups, 5 dogs, 2 bitches. 6 weeks on 26th December, ready to go at 8 weeks (9th Jan). Dam and sire hard working on local shoots in the beating line and also required to pick up. Hunt and retrieve fur and feather, on land and from water. Land they work is very thick cover, bramble, blackthorn etc. Work as you would expect a decent Springer to work! Both parents papered (KC) and hold respectable pedigrees with many FTCH in each. Pups docked and dewed by vet and have papers, socialized with kids and a few select other dogs. Dam Sire Pups
