  1. Small local shoot on notts/lincs border (near Grantham/Newark) needs a couple of beaters, preferably with experienced dogs but not essential. Pay, food, drink, birds and a good crack. Phone David Walker for further details; 07885537367.
  2. Interest point of view Gnasher, I was hoping you and other experienced lads would comment. In a different environment (say a family only competition) would your view change? I understand kids of that age dont compete but do they spar in the sports of boxing and kick boxing? Or is it strictly training?
  3. Nice pick MOO. 3 wild duck on the foreshore has got to be better than any number released for a driven day! If you dont mind me asking, are you a keeper by profession? You seem to enjoy a very wide variety of sport.
  4. Agree malt, but the fact is there is no striking so theres no need for protective gear. I think people are seeing two young kids grappling in a cage surrounded by paying punters and thinking the worst. Typical media health and safety PC bullshit. I bet those kids felt 10 feet tall having such an audiance!
  5. Saw this on the news this morning and the words "disgusting" etc are being thrown about. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-lancashire-14998593 I personally think it's being blown way outa proportion! "The children were not doing cage fighting, they were just grappling, there was no punching, kicking or striking," Thoughts?..............
  6. http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/top-stories/2011/09/19/government-to-clarify-existing-burglary-law-115875-23430544/ Justice Secretary Ken Clarke said it will “clarify” the existing law. He said: “We will make it clear you can hit a burglar with a poker. If an old lady finds she’s got an 18-year-old burgling her house and she picks up a kitchen knife and sticks it in him, she has not committed an offence, and we will make that clear.”
  7. This is the bit I dont like "Detectives investigating the stabbing say they must determine whether it was 'a criminal act' or 'self-defence'." How can approaching an armed burglar in your own home with the intention of disableing him at any cost be a criminal offence? For that matter how can intending to flat out murder a burglar in your own home with your wife and child in be a criminal offence? After what Cameron has said previously about defending your property from intruders this bloke should be 100% safe from any prosecution.
  8. Theres a VERY sobering story in 'Work them hard, treat them like heroes' when Harcombe put down his border Robbie. Relavent to what you have just said.
  9. That's a valid point, although I'd have thought that as a qualified stalker he'd have humane despatch on his ticket? If the legalities involved with the FAC are an issue use a shotgun. Not really a nice thing to be talking about but it is a part of working dogs so I dont think talking about the subject in a respectfull way should be frowned on. Personally I think you are making the right choice. Just seems the right way to end it...
  10. Im looking into getting some of these http://www.bushwear.co.uk/styles.php?ProductID=101310&ClassID=162 Dunno if they are any good? I just want some decent smartish trousers. If it rains heavy I'll where goretex over trousers so waterproofing aint necessary.
  11. Just my opinion, lads that have more to do with the big shoots might sway you towards them. Can't you have a days beating with each to see which you prefer? I've been on some real f*****g boring shoots (for a beater), some really impressive ones and some that are a good laugh. They differ a fair bit and can make your beating misserable or enjoyable.
  12. Personally I would say the small shoot as they tend to be a bit more DIY and less of a social barrier between guns and beaters and the keepers are usually quite willing to reward their beaters with ferreting/pigeon shooting etc. Ive never been on a large commercial estate shoot so cant really comment. On these shoots there will be many more days in the season and pay is usually much better but remember on these shoots the keepers livelihood rely on a successfull shooting season. That said, I've also hand lamping and ferreting with friends through keepers/underkeepers on one of the most prestig
  13. I think if we were to explain you would think "why the feck do you lot do it then? You're all tapped!" lol. It's something you just have to experience to fully apreciate. Most keepers dont expect you to commit to the whole season if its your first time and likewise most keepers wont commit to having you for the full season untill you have done a day. Theres alot of walking, standing around in the mud and wet and having a crack with the other beaters/keeper/guns(depending on the shoot) invovled. Its much more of a social event than the majority of field sports.
  14. Theres no black and white answer for this. The more you dilute the lakey blood the less chance there is of pups coming out with lakey features. i know of a 2nd gen patt lakey that looks like a pure patt. I remember reading up about Australia's 'lost generation' when the white aussies were trying to breed out the native aboriginies and the belief was that after 8 generations the aboriginal blood would be so diluted that all of that 8th generation would appear white aussie with no aboriginal features. Perhaps the same for the breeding of dogs?
  15. Mink hybreds are the way forward for foxing!
  16. Don't think so mate, mining's always been a dangerous game and there was a lot more people employed in mining years ago. Maybe it seems that way because they didn't used to get all the coverage they get today? This is just Wales: http://www.welshcoal...sastersList.htm You're probably right Malt thanks
  17. Are these mining accidents becoming more common? Over the past couple of years there have been a few high profile ones.
  18. Good on em! There will always be a few antis chatting the usuall bollocks.
  19. Theres a Welsh brothel just been re-stocked...
  20. Not read this whole thread because its typical thl bollocks but i gotta reply to this; With in 15mins walk of my back door I know of a 12 acre field that often holds 15 hares! On a short walk around that area I can flush over 50 hares on a good day. Imagine what you would see lamping.... Other areas within the same distance of my house hold very few hares. The numbers are there if you look for em and know the land.
  21. So that makes it okay then I guess.....
  22. Why should people in a common law marriage have any rights? I dont really know much about it but its always struck me as wrong that they do have any rights. I'll be buying a house soon out of my own hard earned and if I shack up with some woman and we split after 3 years I would fecking hope the house remains 100% mine. Perhaps I've missunderstood? Do you have a link to their proposed changes? it was on the news i saw it mate.but what about a couple who live together have kids for lets say ten years.they both contribute by working and buying stuff for the home and bringing up the kids
