What a load of f*****g bollocks!!! Whats bollocks about it? do you condone shooting dogs for running game? because if you do your also scum If a dogs is worrying stock they have a case other than that they dont. No i dont think shooting a dog for running game is right but if there worrying sheep then its your f*****g fault and not the dogs. I should re-read his post lab because he didnt say anything about livestock and infact explicitly stated game... Chasing game through fields of pregnant ewes can be just as much damage. Very true, but thats classed as stoc

Favourite method of bagging your coney?
Born Hunter replied to Born Hunter's topic in Ferrets & Ferreting
Sounds similar to most of the land I work. I've made the odd purse net and there is something very satisfying netting a small open warren with new hand made nets and watching a coney purse up real nice in it. Long netting a big spot is great fun too but I only run the big net out on places that need it. The lads I go out with always want me to run it out but its a ball ache through hawthorn and blackthorn and often completely unnecessary. Shooting the bolters was something I did alot with an old ferreting partner and we really bagged up on that particular land and it was great sport. B -
Well we all know they cant predict what the weather will be like past breakfast never mind in 2 or 3 months. But just suppose it does get real shitty it'll give me the excuse I've been looking for to buy a landy! lol.

I think one of the great things about ferreting is the variety of different ways of bagging the bolted rabbits. Shooting, running them with lurchers, hawks, long nets and the humble purse net are the main methods that come to mind but Im sure there are a few more less common ways. So whats your favourite?

Anthropolgy would have been an interesting subject to study. Doesnt at all surprise me that you did it from what I have gathered about you on here, travelling etc. Theology is another one that interests me, not because I'm at all religious but just find it fascinating from a cultural point of view.

2:1 BSc Physics Hons degree, should have tried harder and got a first but having a 2:1 hasnt held me back in my career choice really. Hardly went to any lectures in my third year but sunrise to sunset revision/cramming for about a month come exam time had the desired effect. Thats the only qualification I have really, but wouldnt mind furthering it with a masters or PhD or more probably chartership.

Both Penny and Andy are very decent people that live for hunting. They have helped me out in a few different ways and I do very much enjoy having a coffee with them and talking dogs. They both have a wealth of experience on dog work/hunting and each from a slightly different angle. Everybody is entitled to their opinion but I would say; if you have a better idea then put it to Penny, she would most probably be only too willing to listen....
-
Very well said Penny. It would break my heart to know a dog I was responsible for was being treated like shit because I didnt do the right thing and took the cowards route. That goes for retired dogs and dogs that failed to make the standard required of them.

Oh yeh, they sound real angels! Human trafficing, prostitution, weapons and drug smuggling as well as the standard gangster murders and assualts etc. I know what you mean though, they seem to be old school gangsters that live by a moral code at least unlike the new wannabes that think murdering inocent members of the public is some sort of initiation right.

You can carry a folding knife with a non locking blade of less than 3" without any need to justify it. A sheath knife or locking blade folder or anything over 3" you will have to have a justifiable reason for carrying it. So if you are on your way to do a bit of lamping (on permission) then it would be perfectly justifiable to have a 4" sheath knife with you for example. However, popping into the petrol station for a can of redbull and a packet of fags on your way to go lamping with your sheath knife on you is not justifiable. In such a situation you should leave your knife in the car. If

Theres an old saying "labs are born half trained, springers die half trained and cockers are just cockers". Theres truth in it but I would say the more important question is 'what do you want the dog for exactly?'. Just because springers are more headstrong than a lab dont be put off if its the right dog for the job. Get shit loads of advice and guidance from decent spaniel men if you feel a bit out of youre depth.

EDRD 'For Meritorious Service'
Born Hunter replied to Born Hunter's topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
Its a shame more wasnt said on what the man liked in terms of a working terrier. I should think his idea of the perfect terrier would go against the trend of todays terrierman, but thats just speculation. And bear in mind folks that this mans job was to control foxes and badgers, he wasnt a sunday morning digger like most. So knowing the landowners and his ground getting a fox or badger for every day of the year isnt too extreme. One of them old timers that you would love to meet by the fire of a quiet country pub for a chat and a bit of wisdom. -
Your drying up fannyboy, as I said, not clever......stupid A word of advice WILF your no match for our Harry/Christian as Davey thinks he his he will tie you in knots mate no disrespect . he has been taught by experts in the art of piss taking , he will cast a fly in your direction and you made a big mistake in snapping at it, A wise salmon holds steady water eyeing its prey from underneath letting the easy one float down stream. http://www.earthdog-runningdog.com/#/for-meritorious-page-1/4553416192 I found this a cracking read and some good pictures as well. "During a ten year period, Tommy Topliss accounted for three thousand and forty foxes and six hundred and forty-seven badgers and for his efforts he was awarded the British Empire Medal." Just thought other terriermen/pest controllers might enjoy it as much as I did. From a time when men were men and most of the public understood the countryside.

Unfortunately there are a large number who have failed to master even the basics of good english and grammar. Let alone trying to make themselves understood and be able to convey a decent POV in a phonetically written regional dialect or language. As the country becomes more multi cultural and direct verbal communications become more widely available so we have seen a dilution of regional differences in language and dialects. Its easy to see why the likes of Gaelic and Welsh are slowly dying. As they serve on real purpose other than as a mean of clinging to some out moded ideal of regional
