  1. I heard something a while back and this brings it to mind.... "99% of terrorists are muslim but 99% of muslims arn't terrorists"
  2. Probably do things I would never have the balls to do while healthy and hopefully get killed along the way as well as achieve enough so that in 10..... 20..... 30 years time the people that saw me do it are still saying "remember that crazy b*****d that did ........................". I wonder if the "only got 6 months to live" line would work on the ladies??? lol
  3. Honesty is very important, for me its probably the number one strength of a good dog man. It stops shit being bred from and others being led to believe that the pup they have just shelled out for is gonna be some sort of wonder dog. If I was gonna rehome a dog it would only be to someone I knew well and would have to be neutered. But to be honest it would break my heart to see any dog of mine being treated like shit so I would prefer to shoot the dog and then they wont be bred from or treated like shit or left to get fat and go stale because they are denied some sort of a hunting life.
  4. Yep, once you have mastered how much force to use with the 'whip' its a piece of piss. I've even done the same with hares, its a bigger animal but with this method that counts in your favour (more body weight to break the neck). Very usefull for a lone ferreter/lamper/shooter.
  5. When I was a kid I used to chop, but as soon as I learnt how to stretch their necks I never chopped again! lol. I've never encountered a situation where it was necessary. Any sort of blunt force traumer causes bruising and if you're a 'head chopper' then surely you're gonna feck ya hand up? You only ever have to stretch the neck once but often more than one chop is needed. Theres just no need at all imo. I've never mastered chinning but equally never found it necessary so never bothered. One thing I have started doing which I have found bloody usefull is stretching their necks one hand
  6. If done PROPERLY its very good. Those nocking it should read up on it before just jumping to a false conclusion as to how it would be done. Gundog trainers would shit their pants at the thought of doing it but then gundogs rarely need any encouragement at all to train.
  7. Some of them are just that stupid this time of year. Ive seen some that you literally have to shout at to get em to lift their heads. They deffinately were not released fox, just stupid cubs that have never seen a lamp as the land it was on we dont touch the foxes.
  8. Sick of seeing 4x4s with fen dogs in driving all over the place. Grantham is just down the road from me and every year lads are running the fallow at belton and getting caught. It was front page news a couple years ago with pictures of deer tied to fences and mass graves etc!
  9. There's no wondering why you're like f*****g Columbo then! Having to do background checks on all the mongrels that come sniffing about if your daughter resembles her!
  10. Hi mate, yes is would be a general dog wagon, got a transit for work which I run about in, the permision i've got is some grass paddocks which are reasonably flat, but it looks like I'm getting a fair few acre on a farm in the Weardale which is predominatley hill sheep country. What do you mean by a 'scooby' Scooby is a Subaru mate. And tbh it sounds like you would be better off with something with better ground clearance anyway. Not to mention they attract attention from the police whether you are a law abiding lurcherman or not!
  11. What exactly do you want from the motor? What sort of off roading will it have to handle? Will it be used solely as a dog wagon and not everyday/work motor? This might help folks narrow it down for you. A scooby will be f**k all good for you if the terrain your covering is a bit intense, deep mud, steep inclines etc but would be spot on for your average flatland farms. Alot of choice with the twin cab pick ups but I think the Hilux is generally considered the most reliable and the L200 is cheap for a reason (although there are good ones). A Disco is the daddy for off roading i
  12. With regard my comment on sizes, Im normally a medium in clothing but I needed a X-Small in the pro hunter jacket and even thats a touch big for me! The pro hunter light jacket sizes are bang on though. Something I want to buy when I can justify it!
  13. I bought one last year and to be honest it was dog shite! I sent it back to swillington and after f*****g ages got a brand new one and its spot on! Real good jacket and you cant complain about the 5 year garuntee either! Tough, warm, hard wearing jacket that will face all winter can throw at you designed for the hunting man. Just be warned about the sizes though, they are ridiculously big! Edited to add; Just noticed I'm wearing it in m avatar, lol.
  14. A good conspiracy theory is always believable. Still a load of bollocks imo.
  15. Your right lab, theres poachers and then theres poachers. Personally I much prefer permission but lets face it, it aint easily come by and sometimes some places are just too good to not chance. Its a vicious circle for dog men! But shooting a mans dog who is doing no harm but running a hare or lamping rabbits or whatever is down right low and shitty. I can understand why some landowners do it but certainly dont agree with it. Its like someone getting their shed broken into all the time and then getting so worked up that when he catches a young lad pinching a plum off his tree he goes outsi
  16. Bogger, Im no hard man and if you came out to f**k me off I would be on my way but I would like to see you take that attitude with some lads that poach. You know as well as I do you would be left by your landy in a pool of your own piss, blood and shit! No need for any hard man talk on these threads by either party, so lets leave it to the kids in the playground.

  18. What a load of f*****g bollocks!!! Whats bollocks about it? do you condone shooting dogs for running game? because if you do your also scum If a dogs is worrying stock they have a case other than that they dont. No i dont think shooting a dog for running game is right but if there worrying sheep then its your f*****g fault and not the dogs. I should re-read his post lab because he didnt say anything about livestock and infact explicitly stated game... Chasing game through fields of pregnant ewes can be just as much damage. Very true, but thats classed as stoc

  20. Sounds similar to most of the land I work. I've made the odd purse net and there is something very satisfying netting a small open warren with new hand made nets and watching a coney purse up real nice in it. Long netting a big spot is great fun too but I only run the big net out on places that need it. The lads I go out with always want me to run it out but its a ball ache through hawthorn and blackthorn and often completely unnecessary. Shooting the bolters was something I did alot with an old ferreting partner and we really bagged up on that particular land and it was great sport. B
  21. Well we all know they cant predict what the weather will be like past breakfast never mind in 2 or 3 months. But just suppose it does get real shitty it'll give me the excuse I've been looking for to buy a landy! lol.
  22. I think one of the great things about ferreting is the variety of different ways of bagging the bolted rabbits. Shooting, running them with lurchers, hawks, long nets and the humble purse net are the main methods that come to mind but Im sure there are a few more less common ways. So whats your favourite?
  23. Anthropolgy would have been an interesting subject to study. Doesnt at all surprise me that you did it from what I have gathered about you on here, travelling etc. Theology is another one that interests me, not because I'm at all religious but just find it fascinating from a cultural point of view.
  24. 2:1 BSc Physics Hons degree, should have tried harder and got a first but having a 2:1 hasnt held me back in my career choice really. Hardly went to any lectures in my third year but sunrise to sunset revision/cramming for about a month come exam time had the desired effect. Thats the only qualification I have really, but wouldnt mind furthering it with a masters or PhD or more probably chartership.
  25. too true mate and i was saying that to my missus last night and i honestly feel i right low life scummy b*****d for thinking it, im glad it wasnt my dog, No shame in that mate! Hope both dogs make a decent recovery.
