  1. Well then win win. You're dead right about most not getting the opportunity. Most digging men do nothing with their dogs other than dig them, which is fair enough for out and out digging men. Some even get puppy walked. For me a terrier is a hell of a useful animal, they can do so much to a quite useable standard.
  2. Ya just can't beat a good all round terrier. I think I'm after another next year and in addition to the usual fox work might train it for stalking too.
  3. I was quite surprised to see the black/mixed race Colonel fella. Thought "surely not back then". But went away and had a google and sure enough there were black officers serving in the British Army in WWI.
  4. I'll have a look. They're both Sci Fis mate, I liked em but I'm half into that shit. Dark Angel was Jessica Alba's breakout role, about genetically engineered child soldiers in a semi post-apocalyptic USA. Ascension was about a top secret 100yr generation ship sent to colonise another planet during the Kennedy administration (actually based on a real government project of the time to save humanity from extinction in a nuclear war). It's set in modern day which is about 50yrs into their voyage.
  5. Aye they drag the likes of TWD right out but then go an leave the likes of Dark Angel unfinished at two seasons or Ascension as just a miniseries. Kills me! LOL
  6. I'm probably two, maybe three episodes out.... last I saw the kingdom had been mullered, Maggie had locked up that weasel who used to run the hill top and Rick had just cut a deal with the dump people to get them onside.
  7. Boring as f**k. It went 'off' last season when they introduced those ridiculous rubbish dumb people. Previous couple seasons were very good though, the Neagan plot etc. Just getting boring now, I'll probably catch up with it again over xmas.
  8. Based on the fact that three of those shows I'm a big fan of I'll have to give the fourth, Outlander, a go. Great taste FDR!
  9. How are these worked? Are they basically worked as very rangy spaniels for driving open country/moor?
  10. The spread of Sapiens has a pretty strong correlation to large fauna extirpation. Sapiens shows up on a new land, all the big shit gets killed. Mammoths survived the end of the ice age in places where man had not yet colonised, then once man arrived they disappeared. Similar situation with Australia's large fauna. Don't ever let anyone tell you that our hunter-gatherer ancestors were some sort of environmental heroes in perfect balance with nature, LOL. Fact is nature doesn't like balance, not in the way most people think of it. It wasn't until we became intelligent enough as a speci
  11. Oh god, I've started a god thread....
  12. Perfect for a 18-20yr old then, even if it's a static caravan and shitty old quad.
  13. Sounds a brilliant job but you'd need a house with that at least. Fantastic position for a young lad perhaps.
  14. LOL I just thought it was interesting folks, where the traditions and names come from etc. Not an attack on any christianity. There's a lot of polytheism etc in our culture along with the obvious Christian heritage.
  15. ...but many winter dreys are virtually “armour-platted” with branches and twigs and well padded with leafy material, giving a blanketing effect against shot. To destroy these we have tried chain shot and even harpoons without success. Explosives or incendiary charges are out of the question owing to fire risk, and the spherical ball cartridge is not sufficiently accurate at 90ft or more. Occasionally the effect of a .22 bullet hitting or passing through the drey will evict and sometimes kill an occupant, but more often than not a single .22 bullet has little effect. Different times!
  16. I can't really envisage a 'situation' that needs a contingency plan as such. I mean if the gas goes off, ill put a coat on, if the leccy goes ill light a candle. Anything more serious id adapt and survive. Good clothes and tools and you can face just about anything imo.
  17. f**k he's back on! Mods red alert! Mods! Mods!
  18. I get the impression that the 'Wolfhound' is merely a local term for the ancestry of this type of dog? I'm not sure I'd read too much into it unless told by local dogmen otherwise. They look solidly made animals from the pictures, not what I'd expect a KC type Wolfhound to throw....
  19. TBH mate, anything past 150 with even the 17 is starting to push the limits. 200 is very doable but it's usually unnecessary, as you can almost always get into 150 or 100. The exception seems to be crows sat out in the middle of 100 acres of winter wheat, LOL. But for rabbits, >150 is usually just an excuse to say you have. If you genuinely need a regular 200 yard rifle then you probably want to think about a small centre-fire.
  20. If we're only talking small game of rabbit size then do you really think the increased bullet weight of the 22mag over the 17 has any significant effect. The fast and frangible 17 is devastating imo. The flat trajectory makes shooting rabbits a formality in my experience. Likewise though I wouldn't say the increased energy of the 17 over the 22lr is of any significance, so no reason to choose the 17 over an 22lr based on that. If fox or feral cats (or even in instances hares) are on the menu then I think you start to see the benefits of bullet weight. But by no means do you become limited
  21. The only good meat on a rabbit is saddle and hind legs anyway. The HMR will leave these clean in most cases so I don't see the issue. Not to mention head shooting out to 100yrds is piss with it. For me the HMR is all I need for small game, it's a brilliant little calibre imo. I could be tempted by a 22 magnum but I'd just be being indulgent really.
