  1. Fair play. No deceit, just fools and their money right?
  2. For starters, well done for being reasonable and understanding that it was your mistake that caused it. We all make mistakes but you aren't being a dick about it like many would. My attitude with all these big powerful dogs that are capable mentally and physically of utter carnage is that you have a loaded weapon! Holster it! I'm very prone to personally taking the initiative and 'dealing with' other folks' dogs that are not under their control and are showing signs of aggression before that turns to their dog tearing chunks out of mine. I don't mind having to do that... What flips m
  3. No you don't. It's something they have made up. You are not obliged to give them that for a SGC. Not really. The difference between a rimfire and a 308 is probably orders of magnitude. The difference between a 22cf and 6-6.5mm is much more reasonable and justifiable and explicitly advised in the HO guidance! There's a theme here where you seem to believe the police are THE authority, whereas I believe they are guardians of the rule of law and order in the capacity of public servants. If they ever tried to take my lawful right to shoot I'd take them to court willingly a
  4. No, you dont. Theyre taking liberties. Again, they were taking liberties. Theyre the police, not parliament. You don't need a gun full stop, but plenty of times a 6-6.5mm are the most appropriate calibre.
  5. I couldn't say off hand, you don't tend to remember exact numbers just the relative feeling it leaves you with. Lol. I can ask a few folks this weekend for you.
  6. I've gone through Notts with a shotgun renewal and a couple of firearms variation and both were reasonable but I can't remember exactly how long. They are quite prompt but they are also strict and push the boundaries of what I consider their remit/duty. For example they used to not allow anything bigger than 22cf for fox and have been insistent on me giving them details (names and adresses) of where I use my shotguns.
  7. Lincs are almost always slow as f**k, issuing temp certs. I used to be under them and most the folks I shoot with still are. They're fairly chilled out regarding issuing them though. Re med fees. https://basc.org.uk/blog/press-releases/latest-news/basc-says-dont-pay-medical-fee/ I paid mine under Nott's, unaware of that info.
  8. And that 1% of me still dictates that I often do the same mate. Just a show of force, even if it is largely seen as gutless. I can't think of one time when a petition was done that would rattle the establishment which they so much as conceded ANY ground on in the way of a compromise. It's the usual, "we understand......" "we are resolute in fighting for...." "that is why we will stand by our policy of....". Utter shite.
  9. I'm 99% convinced that there is utterly no point in those petitions or for that matter lobbying your MP. They are not for changing their minds, not unless re-election is threatened and well we saw how much the country was willing to hold their MPs to account on the referendum result with the GE that followed it. Why should they pay us any attention?
  10. A spaniel would offer no fight at all, none. It'd be like bringing a digging dog on by letting it kill rabbits in a shed. f**k all sense in it. Most out and out terrierman I know don't even bother letting pups kill rats 'to bring them on'! That dont mean some clueless little dick Asian isn't letting his boy tyson f**k other folks pets, but I don't believe in the bait dog thing generally. Just pathetic excuses for dog men that revel in their dog bullying. As has been said, cocker pups are going for 700 each easy and it's generally cockers getting knocked.
  11. You've got to be sick in the head to let a fighting dog go at a spaniel. Be like a heavyweight knocking f**k out of a 5yr old. So I'm sceptical too.
  12. Part 6. One for @socks https://www.fieldsportsmagazine.com/Shooting-Stalking/close-calls-part-6.html "Thrashing and turning, the crocodile dragged him down into the depths, and he was amazed at the power of it. Battling back, Alistair managed to pull the croc towards him and get his legs around it in a ‘scissors grip’ whilst attempting to gouge its eyes out with his thumbs as it rolled repeatedly under the water."
  13. I can only speak from my limited experience but coming from a rifle background I found handling a compound bow far more natural than a trad bow. Likewise it was comical handing my mate, an experienced archer, my compound. Totally alien for him to shoot. You've got a trigger, sights, follow through etc. No doubt the compound has it's own skillset and as you say you can't just pick one up and hit the tree stand but I personally find it very similar to a rifle. But maybe that's what you're getting at? that level of familiarity between rifle and compound breeds neglect? You're absolutely
  14. If you want ethical standards then without doubt the compound bow should be the first to be considered. It has more in kin with a rifle than a trad bow, the skill set to shoot with precision is very similar.
  15. Mate, if I can crack on with my 25-06 where I have permission I don't see why a bow and arrow is a no go? Never mind national parks. Let's just keep it simple, permissions and commercial guided stalking. I think by licensing, it was meant like a DSC type certification.
  16. Okay I understand your thinking now. I just don't agree that the act of legalising bow hunting would have that effect. There's nothing stopping clowns with bows doing what they want now, and indeed they do as you said. I don't understand why legalising hunting would increase that sort of incident? Those same clowns aren't going to be out getting permission to bowhunt or pay for guided stalks, they'll carry on the same as they did before. IMO the whole process of legal bowhunting filters out the dickheads. Maybe by legitimising it it'd turn some of these wannabes to the right path. If you'
  17. You reckon? Maybe... Personally I think that as they are already legal to own, by simply legalising hunting with them you're not going to be putting any more of these tools in the hands of plebs. There's nothing stopping that now. I reckon those that have the legal permission and skill to hunt with a bow would naturally be more responsible. What culture do you think we (hunters) would need that we don't already have?
  18. Fieldsports are pretty firmly my highest priority, right after 1) Not a freedom hating communist!
  19. A lot of energy in those limbs. I'll leave mine to be restringed by a professional! Ha
  20. Even realtree shit roll?
  21. Basspro/cabelas is THE shit! I went everyday I was within walking distance last time i was there.
  22. I could get quite into shooting those warthogs in S.A.! Look fun little buggers. I know a chap who hunts Africa and has bowhunted too, hopefully shooting with him next week.
  23. If ya like bowhunting then have a look at a couple threads in the big game hunting section of the forums. DanielG added some great pictures of his hunts in BC and quite a few decent links posted by other members.
  24. Ive dabbled in most kinds of hunting and this is a scratch I'm working on itching, don't worry!
  25. Hoyt Ultratec cam&1/2 60lb draw. It's a target bow really being 40" cam to cam but id hunt with it given the opportunity in the future, it's accurate and powerful enough.
