  1. I see the government coping a lot of shit for how it's playing out here but I honestly think most folks don't really seem to give a toss anymore. One of the cited reasons for the government not acting hard and fast was that they didn't think the British public would tolerate it like other countries have. It's not really in our national dna to easily give up basic freedom. I'm not getting into the rights and wrongs of that but how relaxed the general public is now seems to support that assessment.
  2. A mate made this for in payment for something or other, I forget what. Anyway...
  3. 'ammortality' if I recall. His bit about that was really interesting. How mortality gives us freedom, whereas a life that isn't ended by old age would make us incredibly risk averse. Tbh one of the most interesting topics he covered was happiness and how progress probably isn't actually leading to it, yet it 'feels' like it does, therefore driving it on.
  4. If he was really clever he'd involve some Mentos and turn it into a rocket striking system....
  5. I couldn't finish Homo Deus, but I'm sure it's as good as Sapiens. Sapiens is so insightful and thought provoking. It makes it so clear exactly what we're doing wrong.
  6. According to their site they have 15 million people on their database (I expect that is customers rather than ethnic standards) and they sample your genome in over 700'000 locations. I don't know how accurate that makes it though. Mine seems very believable based on what I know of my families traced history and the history of the region we're from.
  7. I've got a pair of 10x42 Vipers myself. Honestly happy with them. If I could justify chucking thousands at glass I'd get Swaro's but I can't. I might stretch to a pair of Razors one day...
  8. Sorry mate, missed this. Mine was with ancestry. Cost about £100 I think.
  9. It's easy mate... Just pull a tooth, one of the back ones so you don't look silly, then post it to these guys https://www.ancestry.co.uk/
  10. I'm just not sure I believe how accurately they can say that. I mean their database of ethnic standards would have to be massive.
  11. Nah, lol, neither any Italian/Greek which everyone expected me to be.
  12. I have lost my original one but here’s mine from a year or so ago. and here’s mine from today.
  13. Yes I think it is, you just have to remember that the smaller the ethnic group the less reliable it is. I mean in fairness, mine put me from the East Mids which imo is fecking spot on, lol, but a year or so back when I first had it done it reckoned I was predominantly West European (continental Europe, not UK). That's not surprising because English and W.Europe will be two very closely matching groups but it shows that they probably weren't able to accurately differentiate to that level back then.
  14. My understanding is that they define ethnic groups by profiling individuals that they consider representative of that ethnicity. So they do a heap of research on a persons family history and if they appear to have strong and long roots to that area that individual is considered to be representative of that ethnicity. They'll do this for as many people as practical and for as many other areas/ethnicities as practical and then look for bits of dna that commonly occur in a given ethnic group so as to genetically identify that ethnicity. But it's not like they have a 'German gene' or a 'African ge
  15. I've literally watched my own genetic ancestry change as their database of ethnic 'standards' is expanded. IMO the topic of ancestry in general is full of misunderstandings, but especially when it comes to dna.
  16. Troy, Gladiator, Kingdom of Heaven Just make more please!
  17. If the UK had a right to bare arms we’d have a similar mob... currently known as ‘air-softers’!
  18. Yeah, what they’ve seen is a surprisingly low admission rate of smokers with CV19 but they reckon those that do suffer bad because their lungs are weaker. But yeah the current hypothesis is that it’s the nicotine that’s active.
  19. That’s interesting but seems disputed at this stage. I think it’s fair to say the risk is low. Another puzzler is how smokers aren’t getting ill like non smokers! They have hypothesised that niquotine actually protects you in some way I can’t remember. Possibly prevents the immune system overreacting? They’re trialing it now and of course everyone has panic bought patches!
  20. Along similar lines, I remember reading that shutting schools didn’t have the effect they thought it would. Plus there’s a very strong relationship between this disease and age. I’d find it hard to believe that a kid has never passed it to an adult but I wouldn’t be at all surprised if the risk was tiny.
  21. I don’t know f**k all about boxing really but I could believe it. That old boy looked a bit lethal. The youth wasn’t ready for him at least.
  22. Look mate, that black wench with the bubble but is not wiping your arse!
  23. The water bomb slo-mo is gold! The 'rolling coal' to the face after that cracked me up too.
  24. Some more savagery from the archives
