the dog in my avatar is such a dog,,, i bought her at 2 years old,, for £60 at melton cattle market,, on a whim,, never bought an adut in my life. lad that sold her told me she wernt good enough for coursing,, he was in to saluki types and she just wernt good enough. to be fair to him she had about 3 mins in the tank,, wich is good for a dog thats whipp/grey x deer/grey... but not good enough for some of the 5 min gruelers on the fens anyway i cought plenty hares ,roe ,muntys loads of rabbits,,retrived live to hand... she wone the windmill double handed in 2003, and runner up the foll

iceman your right catching a bolter is important,, but most quik dogs can,,, its not just marking either,, its the following round of the action underground,, its as if there talking to you,, cos they know far more than the owner as to whats happening and where..,, when your on your own , and the dog understands what you want and need, you could be in an akward place,,,, but the dog "gets it",,,, it understands.... as socks has siad in the past,,, lots of dogs go ferreting,,, but not many dogs are ferreting dogs

l brought my own dog out with her mother when she was old enough,6 7 months old plus nothing less.Yes the pup gets walked though sheep brought on walks where there is rabbits and stuff about but not out hunting but that is you way not mine. Pup as to be field wise before going on it 1st hunting.Able to get over rivers,fences over or though and gates able to walk though live stock with out running about worrying them.PUP AS SO MUCH TO LEARN BEFORE ITS 1ST HUNT no ones saying they let a 3 month old pup run a rabbit,,, if you think catching bolters is a ferreting dogs only purpose,, it le

that bit of film, was from earlier this year end of feb,, early march,,, she was 6 this june,, she doesnt always get behind a hole evrytime,, that particular warren was just 3 holes, but spread over a large area, somtimes she will be infront of a hole.as she hears it rumble up the tube and grab it out the entrance ,, theres a clip further down showing this. i honestly couldnt say how long it toke for her to become a yousefull ferreting dog,,, not perfect,, but usefull, but i wil say i think its a big MISTAKE taking a pup ferreting with other dogs,, the pup is always going to be bossed

if your dogs arnt broken to ferrets ,, they shouldnt be ferreting....... pesonly i like them off,, mine tends to follow the action ,, interspting most bolters.... but there are times and places where dogs arnt worth taking,,

got asked to do some hedgrows by a local farmer,, so jim poped over today to give me a dig out. the first hedge is along a track and alot of the burrows go under it, so its a bit of a gamble, but we did ok from it getting 18, only one dig witch was only 1 foot luckily, the next hedge we had to use the longnet round , just to thik underneath,,, only a little warren about 10 holes,, got 2 from here, the dog cought one , on exit, and we dug the other just a spit of soil,,, nothing in the ong net lol. the next bit of hedge did 3 little warrens , pruduced 7... all in all a good day under
