  1. There's no way marking, can compete in the excitement of a dog taking a Rabbit on the run, but a good marker when ferreting, will put more rabbits in the bag, marking in a rabbiting dog is way up there.
  2. When I was a lad there were no ferreting DVDs cant remember seeing any books either, and the old Poachers I knew would not show you a birds nest, you knew the basics, rabbits in burrow nets on and enter ferret, it was just a case of going out, and the more mistakes you made, you made sure you would not do it again. Its far easy now, dvds books on rabbiting, even longnets, how to knit nets, how to train your lurcher etc. nothing can beat learning field craft, get a few nets and your ferret in a small box and go a walk, you should come across spotting a Rabbit going into bury, net up enter ferr
  3. Ive met a few aggressive dogs, I used to put the leash on him, when i saw them coming, not good one dived in, and i had a bit of job getting it away, lucky no damage, now i keep him off the leash, he is 3 parts Whippet x 1/4 Bedlington, friendly dog, but anything aggressive he just uses his speed to get out of trouble
  4. Go on to the Greyhound Forums for sales, there's usually a few on.
  5. When I was in China, were they are made I thought it would be easy to buy one really cheap, I found a shop that sold fishing and hunting gear, there was no sign of a ferret finder, so I tried to explain to the owner what I was wanting, ha ha, no chance, he spoke no English, and me no Chinese, so my hand gestures did not work.
  6. Years ago BL i had a Whippet X Bedlington, and a few times she would run catch a rabbit, then if another jumped up, she would drop the rabbit, that would slink away, she then would fail to catch the second, so you were left with zilch. lol I would then shout at her, why did you do that, where she would look at me, as if to say whats up wi him.
  7. I wasnt happy about returning the Bird, but i did and it was only about 20 mins since i found it, i returned it to a saver place about 6ft away fro where i found it, and it would not be seen by dogs. Returned today and the Bird was lying dead in exactly the place i left it, wish I had known someone near me who kept Falcons, as this was one bonnie Bird.
  8. Donkey jackets are okay, but useless on thorns, my old wax jacket, the zip, has started to go, went on to ebay today bought a used wax jacket good condition £17 postage paid.

  10. Used to dip once a year, when I had Sheep, used to put the two Collies through at the end, this was the old dip which is now banned, never had any bother with Ticks and Fleas.
  11. I was out today walking my Lurcher along a well used dog walkers path, when i spotted a young kestrel, it was fully feathered, but could not fly, i realised if i left it, a dog would nail it. I flung my jersey over it, and brought it home, I phoned an Animal hospital Where it clicked onto answering machine and advised me to phone the RSPCA, which I did, spoke too, so called Officer, who said I should return it, the parents would be around and would feed it, I explained I had waited half an hour, and there was no sign of parents, she appeared to me , not to be listening, and said all fledgling
  12. Keep a pair of secateurs in your bag, handy for cleaning roots etc around the bury, that could catch your net. Cocktail sticks break in half, handy for doing tree burys, just stick into bark, they hold the net. When using stop nets, put a net on the end poles, put the end ring over, and peg in.
  13. I do like to move with the times, i bought the MK3 but we just did not get on, so it was back to the MK1, Im waiting to see if Deben bring out a MK4, even a new MK1 which did not pick up wire, metal would be good. Will they just keep producing the MK3, or do you think they will bring out another model soon, anyone in the know?

  16. Have used it, but stopped, didn't like most of their completes contain Beet pulp, ok for cattle, Horses, and Sheep, but Dogs?I could be wrong, some of you will know, but what benefit would beet pulp be for dogs? Does it really matter, others are bulked out with grain, is that any better? I don't know, are they both bad, is one better than the other, showed you avoid completes with Beet Pulp, maybe some who know the answers can comment.
  17. BARF stands for biologically appropriate raw food. Years ago the acronym meant bones and raw food, the practice of feeding raw, uncooked food to pet dogs. This is an increasing trend among owners, it is supposed to mimic the best of a dogs natural diet, but a word of warning, it is not as simple as it may appear. Although this type of diet may work wonders on an itchy dog and improve the dull coats of others, anyone considering it MUST do the proper research and speak to a vet before embarking on any changes. The most difficult thing is to get the right balance of nutrients, vitamins and m

  21. The Hawks don't work, they tried them as well as removing eggs, which they still do, but with the hawks, yes the birds flew to another part of town, then quickly returned when the hawks were back in their van, and the council bill for hawks was not cheap, they stopped the Hawk contract.
