ferreting help please new permission
Ratreeper replied to runrabitrun's topic in Ferrets & Ferreting
It might help if you can work your ferrets with a more experienced team. Could you hear any activity like thumping, squeaking? were the ferrets coming back to the surface soon or staying down for a bit? If they pop up almost straight away it could mean it's empty, or more likely as you are new that the ferret doesn't know the game yet. Definitely try them 2-3 at a time even on some smaller warrens, as like has been said they might be getting the run around but if that was the case you probably would hear something. -
My girlfriend's hob is a hemophiliac (its blood doesn't clot) and to be honest a bit of a nightmare. He nearly bled to death from being castrated and even a simply injection. Now he has chewed something sharp (f**k knows how it lives indoors!) and cut the roof of his mouth, swallowing lots of blood over the last few days and got worse today. He is at the vets now to get it cauterised, but if that doesn't go well he might need a blood transfusion. So I am asking if there are any of you with a large male ferret who could donate a bit of blood to keep keep this one alive? I have a young femal

I have always liked Hughe, I preferred the old series when he was going around in a camper van or canal boat. He has changed into just another TV chef now though which is a shame (or so it seems from when I watch it now, it's just all cooking not where it came from). It's TV so of course it is contrived, when did anyone suggest it was 100% real? You will be shocked that other 'spontaneous' panel shows rehearse too next. The dog thing is interesting though, personally I would eat humans if it was legal , but I do see a small difference between pigs and dogs. Mostly that dogs trust humans an

do you have any better pics of your dogs mate? Bloody massive bag that, how many runs did it take to bag 83?

Iam with you on that one , as long as there a barrier between me & the animals I am fine , but if i am out & a horse appears I am quite pathetic I can't get anywhere near a horse anymore, I don't even like driving past them because I think they will spaz out

Makes MI5s job a bit easier. no mate, they will probably say it's their religion to release the footage. I lived in Keighley (near Bradford) not long ago which has the biggest mosque in Europe. I used to buy 'stuff' from an asian guy right near it, they have cameras pointing all over the street and I never felt comofortable in that town (with asians giving you looks of pure hate everywhere you go). f**k the lot of them.

I like watching foxes hunt, except when we are stalking the same bunny. One time I was stalking up to a hare for about 30 mins over a large field for a fox to jump out of the bushes just as I was about to aim...wasn't annoyed though it was just surprising.

weird how mosques tend to have cctv cameras everywhere isn't it?

I used to be scared of spiders but I am nearly over it, couldn't pick one up but I don't mind them crawling on th ceiling etc. But my claustrophobia is just getting worse. I went to my mates new flat and went in to a biggish cupbard thing in the garage for a 'smoke' and our hilarious other mate locked the door. Within 2 seconds I was ready to kick the f*****g door in. It's just pure panic and the only thought is 'get the f**k out!'. I can handle smallish space if I know I can get out. Oh and I f*****g hate puppets, not sure it is a phobia but they really disturb me. I have to change th

It isn't even a very old video, doesn't look like Africans have ever really advanced the way the rest of the world has. It just seems like they had one idea on how to hunt and stuck with it, never coming up with a new idea or copying more advanced culture, no matter how bloody inefficient it is. I mean, even if you live in an AID's ridden desert how hard would it be to make a bow and arrow? or since it's 2011 and they aren't isolated why not learn from the rest of the civilised world. I am not condemning them for surviving, but it does perplex me why they have remained so primitive.

The thing I find strange is how different morals are depending on where you live. So much for all the bible-bashers saying morals come from God. I don't really have a big issue with farming tigers if it protected the wild ones and they were treated properly. Clearly that isn't happening though and the wild tiger is worth more money to the backwards medicinal market. It is the lesser of two evils, like allowing the hunting of elephants to raise money to protect them which seems backwards, but it's the best you can hope for with human nature. We are all selfish, horrible c**ts at the expense of

your greatest personal achievement to date.....?
Ratreeper replied to SNAP SHOT's topic in General Talk
I cracked the Rubik's cube My second biggest acheivement was getting a job at Google without even having a degree. I don't work there anymore and I don't miss it much, so I am hoping I have some better acheivements left to go. Hopefully one day I can start my own business, that's the dream I just need the funds! -
I was just trying to find a video of an alaunt hunting and found this instead. It might have been put up before. Oh and for the mods , 18+ the video shows people killing elephants and hippos with spears so you can guess it takes a while. It's not really hunting as you will see, but it's interesting I suppose. Pretty innefficient and very cruel but it's just survival so that's why I wouldn't call it hunting. There's a link to the documentary the clips are from, if anyone watches it let me know if it's worth a look

New respect for single handed coyote dogs

That is good advice I would normally follow. I don't really need two dogs, it is more because I want two dogs to keep each other company and what I have in mind for the larger dog I wouldn't want to ask a smaller dog to do. So the bigger dog will need to be strong and probably not the quickest (turning), but that does ruin my ferreting/lamping plans a bit so that leads me back to two dogs again. I am just out to enjoy myself and not bothered about having the best of the best, I just don't want to try and knock a nail in with a kettle if I can get a hammer

cheers for the replies. I would be looking to get the larger dog first (possibly an older dog, 1-2 years old) and getting a decent season under my belt. I have been out quite a lot with other peoples dogs and borrowed them for the night but it isn't the same. I wouldn't be getting a second dog until I am confident the first dog is up to scratch and will teach the new dog (hopefully a pup) how to do it. I would want the allrounder-type first as I like a bit of mooching about, but my opinion might change over time and I might decide to get a one-quarry dog (for bigger rabbits perhaps, I

my lurcher was killed a ferret by mistake (i hope)
Ratreeper replied to lurcher330's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
I flew hawks and one day the same happened to me, the bunny bolted and went straight down a neighbouring hole. Then BANG the hawk dropped on the ferret that followed it out. She was 100% before and after with ferrets apart from that one time. I know it might not be a relevant example, but I think if you start worrying about it the dog will pick up on it and just make it worse. So just crack on like it never happened (the ferret miraculously survived and hunted again the same as normal, the talons had wrapped right round...lucky ferrets have flexible ribs because it got a good squeeze ) -
I will hopefully be getting two lurchers soon (which I think I have been saying for about 9 years) and wouldn't mind some advice to make sure my plan isn't silly. I don't really have a specific cross in mind, I would rather just get a dog from a good line but for a while I have had an alaunt/grey (not too bulky) in mind so far, as my first dog. This would obviously just be for rabbits but I think it would be very useful in case the ban is lifted too. So it would be an all-rounder but mostly for pre-ban stuff hence sacrificing speed for strength. I wouldn't get the second for a while, b

I still haven't got my first lurcher, but all going well I will as soon as I can rent a house that will allow me to build a kennel (bloody nightmare so far). But I started out shooting/ferreting and then got into falconry. I have a crazy passion for dogs and worked a pointer with the hawks. My world was transformed the first time I went ferreting with a lurcher though! It was the most exciting day ever and I couldn't get enough. I have to admit it took a lot of the appeal of falconry away as a dog is working for you, not for food. So I went out as much as I could and my mate would often be

I don't see how it will make any difference at all. Police will turn a blind eye to someone doing 80mph now and I don't think many ever get prosecuted even if they are pulled over. When they bring in the new limit they will be enforcing it more strictly, so there is no difference at all. I think it is much more dangerous to go too slow. How many times have you joined a motorway before having to slam your brakes on because of some prick sat at 45mph. Or going round a blind bend and the same happens? Or more importantly all of the dangerous manoeuvres like risky over-taking or under-taking/t

I haven't read all 10 pages, but most of you need a reality check it seems. He wasn't selling smack at a primary school, he carried a little bit of weed over a border. There is no justification to ban weed anyway, but as it stands a few Oz hardly makes him a major player and imo doesn't deserve time. On the other hand, he knew the laws of the land and the risk he was taking so he deserves his original sentence like anyone else. But I feel very strongly you should be sent back to your native countries prison. It would stop travelling English being f****d over and we could empty 90% of our pris

I know this isn't the most interesting topic, but 39 of you have still had a look and no-one has said it's good or bad..

I need a shovel for ferreting so hopefully nothing too hardcore. I am thinking of getting something like this off ebay, as it look pretty good to me. Should be built to last, it's a bit short but like I said it's just for ferreting anyway. Any opinions/suggestions would be helpful. The price inc p+p is £19 which is about as much as I would want to spend
