  1. I am in Glasgow for a couple of days and was wondering if there are any gun dealers worth a visit. Looking to pick up a good deal on a leupold scope.
  2. Enjoy your trip. We look forward to the BBQ invites when you get settled ;-)
  3. beautiful looking dog, he surely doesn't look 9 yrs, what do you work him at? keith
  4. if she is drinking i wouldnt rush to the vet for a least a day, i would withhold her food as mentioned earlier for about 24hrs then try the boiled rice , the rice will help with any stomach upset. i am also a big fan of caline and morphine that you would take yourself, i have used it extensively over the years and i find that it stops Diarrhea quickly and settles upset stomachs as well. keith
  5. i would nt get too hung up on the ammo, you will be able to buy it cheaper there than in the uk. i would ask the question though about bringing it back with you as i may be more economical to bring your FAC quantity home with you. The other question is can you buy ammo there without a US FAC or equivalent. keith
  6. you may have more success with a rabbit carcass with the inners showing, place it out and the magpies will come into to it, you wont get them coming in great numbers but it is good shooting all the same.
  7. I am trying to find out if the written test for dsc1 in northern Ireland includes ??? On other regions, I know that n. Ireland firearm law is only assessed in n Ireland but will there b ??? On say English firearm law in the test. I have a similar query regarding open season for each species , do you need to learn the seasons for each region or only the region you are sitting the test? Thanks in advance Keith
  8. I would go with a variable mag scope for your hmr , most of the 8x56 scopes are great for stalking but you will find the reticle is on the heavy side for the quarry the hmr will be used for . 3-12x 50 would be more than suitable for the hmr. One option is to buy a good 2nd hand scope rather than a budget new scope.
  9. £146.45 is the price from debens for 10AH package including shipping , can anyone recommend a cheaper source online. thanks keith
  10. how do you find the 10AH version, i use a lightforce 170 100W lamp and was wondering what lamp you use with the battery keith
  11. General safety tip , bring the stock up to close the gun and not raise the barrels. This way the barrels will be pointing at the ground when you close the gun. I learned this years ago when I first started shooting clays. Glad to hear no one was injured.
  12. i have been out a bit lately with hawks and have found that any rabbits still around after the cold spell are certainly big and strong. most of those bolting from the holes are comming out like greyhounds also seeing a lot of places hit with mixi
  13. Can anyone recommend a good rifle club in northern Ireland. I am basically looking somewhere to practise and develop loads etc. I am based close to Antrim and want to use .233 and .17 hmr Regards Keith
  14. That's the point I am making, they won't have the natural wind to hunt, it would be a very small number that may turn out at best average so why bother wasting your time and prospects. Keith
  15. What's the best type of 223 ammo for foxes that will fragment and reduce the risk of exiting the fox.
  16. Same with rifles, best to use them if dry firing
  17. Good luck with the berretta, you should get many good years out of it. One of the Best things you could do (apart from being out on the range) Is get yourself a set of snap caps and practise dry mounting and your swing etc in the house. Ps if you are 6" would you be interested in a partnership in breaking and entering
  18. i would spend a day at a clay pigeon range, skeet would allow you to try the different barrel lengths at consistant targets, you wont need to worry about the target verying too much and therefore if you feel comfortable and shoot better with one particular gun length then stick with it. When i was shooting a lot of clays 32" guns seemed to be fashionable for a while, they are very pointable and suit some targets better than others. I shoot a 30" gun reasonably well but couldnt hit a barn door with a 28" gun, this is just me, my swing suits a 30" barrel. i did like the 32" barrels but then agai
  19. i bought one recently from www.fieldandgun.co.uk after a quick search they were the cheapest 19.53 and i found the service good. keith
  20. I remember watching a YouTube vid of a guy using a hmr at about 130m, looked to be good kills and left the camcorder going while he picked up the geese. When he got back One of geese started flapping scared the crap out of him.
  21. meat damage would be heavy with .223, is it for controlling the numbers or for food ?.
  22. the shooting show in feb is rumored to have a larger air gun section at it this year, may be worth looking into. k
