  1. hi guys When you obtain an explosives cert for reloading, can you buy powder online from a registered dealer. Can powder be shipped to an address other than another registered dealer?. I am looking at buying a complete reloading kit from a member and he has a couple of tubs of powder included. If he arranges to send it from a regsitered dealer can this be sent to myself or must it go to another dealer?. Thanks in advance keith

  3. you could argue that getting out hunting is a great stress relief and it gives you the opportunity to switch off from your stressfull job.
  4. i found a good free program audacity on filehippo, it lets you open mp3 files (say something similar to the downloaded calls ) and you can then insert silence or repeat sections of the original call etc to build up a call that will run for a couple of minutes with periods of silence. the longer version of the file can then be downloaded to your mobile of mp3 player,
  5. you may want to give the warreners trick ago where he sets a cheap clock attached to bait, when the fox pulls the bait the time stops and then he goes back around that time to shoot the fox. I have never tried this but it may give you an idea of when he visits a certain area. I would also range out the area so that you know exact distances for any shots you may get. keith

  11. if the hobs are neutered can they be kept together all year round and will it reduce the musky odor that occurs during the breeding season ?.
  12. i got a swivel model from ebay at a good price, it was posted from teh states and still cheaper than buying locally. I normally like to buy locally rather than ebay but at the end of the day there are not too many people in a position these days to throw money away.
  13. i have been talking to a few people regarding the GWP. I am happy this breed will suit my requirements but now it is more about getting the right pup and seeing what is on offer. one of the owners i have been talking with was telling me about some differences in the German lines and the dutch lines, i would be keen to hear peoples opinions on the differences thanks in advance keith

  15. good luck with the new rifle, good time of year to pick one up, keith
  16. i read a good article in last months shooting sports which explained the GReenhill Formula and how it is used to work out the twist rate needed to stabilise certain bullets. It mainly deals with the bullet length as oppossed to bullet weight but as it has been pointed out previously heavier bullets of the same caliber will be longer. an example in the article relates to 168G BTHP in .308 length in calibers = length of bullet / caliber = 1.213" / .308 = 3.938 calibers therefore 150 / 3.938 = 38.09 to turn this into the twist rate required to stabilize the above bullet you need to mu
  17. from reading your post on checking the zero which is now off , i assume that at one stage the zero was ok, i had a similar problem on an air rifle in my case the mounts werent high enough and the zero wouldnt come up far enough, a higher set of mounts sorted my problem.
  18. cheers MR L. Have you any preferences for brass and primers, the rifle is the mountain version so it has a shot barrel, i will try the n130 powder as a starting point. There is a good article in this months issues of shooting sports on a complete reloading kit from Lee, the kit is over £500 and includes everything you need to get up and running but it is outside my budget at the moment. there is a handheld primer tool included in the kit, does any one use one of these and do they speed up the reloading process. thanks keith
  19. a friend is going to help me reload a some rounds for my steyr 223, the rifle has a 1:9 twist and so far with ammo tests it seems to like 55g federal rounds. I have only checked 40 g hornady and the federal rounds to date. I will be using the rifle primarily for fox. As a starting point i would like some recommendations for reloading rounds for this caliber i.e. brass cases, primers, 55g bullet heads and powder. if someone has a recipe for home loads for fox hunting i would be very grateful as this will give me a good starting point to check what my rifle favours. i would lik
  20. when i shot on a golf course years ago the owner loaned us one of their tractors, the tractor had the right tyres to avoid damage to the fairways and the rabbits where used to seeing it coming and going and didnt get too bothered. might be worth asking if you get permission on the nearby golf course. keith
  21. thats a very fair point, i had some good replies to a question regarding the kit need to start reloading and a rough cost for everything required. the post if interested can be found here http://www.thehuntinglife.com/forums/index...+equipment+cost
  22. sorry mixture of rooks and jackdaws.
  23. just wondering when the sporting rifle is normally released, what magazines do you subscribe to and why you find them better than the others ?. (Mainly interested in rifle shooting)
  24. it is on the outskirts of a large country estate, there is one of the biggest rookeries there i have seen. normally you fire a shot and the crows head off for a bit but this area doesnt seem to get shot much and the crows kept comming thick and fast. My mate missed a crow and as it was heading back out of the decoys another flew over it right into the decoys. i have found that since starting to shoot rifles my shotgun shooting has slipped but a bit more practise will get it sharpened up again.
  25. a friend invited me out to a field that was sown very late in the year with barley. We had a good couple of hours unfortunately the hit : ratio wasnt very impressive
