  2. hi guys this may get move but i asked the question in the wanted section and didnt have much luck. I am looking for a good condition 2nd hand lupold 4.5 -14 x 50 or similar ideally with the varmint hunter reticle or the boone and crocket reticle. thanks keith
  3. jamie if that is the scope off the pigeonwatcher board then it is gone i' afraid. keith
  4. tried the 4.5-14 x 40 leupold with varmint hunter reticle last night and really liked it. we had a quick walk around before dark and the scope was fine in good - fading light and after dark we lamped for an hour or so. Even with the 40mm lens the light gathered was good. saying that the furthest rabbit taken with the lamp was about 60m but i am pleased with the scope. i will have a look out now for one. keith
  5. the CLA game fair is great show, i am heading over in july this year from ireland, looking forward to it already.
  6. i got to borrow a varmint hunter for a week or so, i may give it a go tonight at the rabbits just to see how it suits me. I was looking at the 8x56 benders etc great scope clear as a bell but to get the reticle i want and the variable power then you start to get into real £££ and i am not sure that the extra quality would be worth it for hunting rabbits and foxes. does anyone have a good condition leupold with the varmint hunter ret for sale ?, thanks keith
  7. agreed it is very handy, things have relaxed alot over here durig the past 5yr or more but unfortunately i can see hunting rifles and ammo being the first casualty of the recent political events. hopefully not but we will wait and see.
  8. in n. ireland the police will also send you a receipt / letter for the application stating that you can continue to use your firearms and purchase ammo, the dealer is instructed to fill in the caliber and quantity on the back of the letter. I always take a copy to keep myself covered also handy in the event that your variation gets lost in the post as recently happened to myself.
  9. the following link is a good description of why you need to run-in a new barrel, some people say you dont have to run in the smaller caliber barrels but i guess it is better safe than sorry. http://www.hps-tr.com/guidance/barrel_runningIn.asp keith
  10. off subject but a long the same lines. i spoke to one of the exhibitors (jackson rifles) at the shooting show in newark recently about moderators and cleaning them, she was saying that it is best not to store the rifle with the mod still attached as the residue that has condensed inside the moderator will run down into the barrel and breech etc and can be very corrosive. i am not saying that this has been your problem but it may be worth bearing in mind. Any other thoughts on this keith
  11. will do, thanks for clearing that up. keith
  12. i was going to get a SAK today for 17hmr ( finally got it screw cut) the dealer is looking £45 for the silver moderator, is there a difference or should the black and silver versions both be around £35 ish , i had a quick look in mags and i havent came across a different price for the to colours. keith
  13. a few years ago i decided to make a caller for crows etc, i bought a remote controll kit (like a garage door opener) from Maplins and a small AMP kit, i built the speaker into a normal crow decoy and the amp and battery into a small camo bag. Everything including a cheap walkman to play the tapes ( couldnt find mp3 at the time) cost around £40, the remote was a two channel version so i could switch the rotary on and off with it separately from the caller. keith
  14. is that the light weight version for stalking
  15. do you find it too heavy for smaller game Rabbits and fox keith
  16. does anyone shoot the leupold boone and crockett reticle, i like the idea of graded reticle but for me the varmint hunter reticle is a little too fine ( i have only fired a few shots from a rifle fitted with one and may get used to it with a little more use), the boone and crockett looks a more heavier and may suit me better. thanks keith
  17. nightvision a member from southern ireland recently sent me a contact for island sports in Mayo, they have are advertising a sale on scope at the moment, may be worth checking it out. keith
  18. basically Paul the rifle you have been granted on the FAC is listed along with the serial number, if you either replace it for another rifle of the same caliber then you should be ok for a "one on one off" if you give up the rifle you still need the variation as you no longer have that rifle / serial number in your possession, I know it is a pain as the whole process can be slow. keith
  19. enough food for a couple of weeks, How many ferrets are you feeding, good night out keith
  20. what battery types do you guys find gives the longest usage per charge, i.e. dry cell, sealed or wet cell etc keith
  21. one thing that will have an impact on the shot size is your choke size, I normally shoot 28g 7's, i like the load as it isnt too severe on you after a hard days shooting and although my gun is mulit choked i tend to use 1/4 and 1/2 with very few runners. tigher choke allows you to use smaller shot size keeping a good pattern but again it up to personal choice. keith
  22. thanks for the advice i appreciate it. keith
  23. beat me to it, i was going to post a link to R macleods, i have spoken to them recently reference a .223 after seeing an advert in sport rifle or gun mart. they also have some good scopes at good prices. has anyone dealt with R Macleods in the past and what were their experiences. Genuine replies appreciated.
  24. i have applied for a .223 and was wondering what a rough cost of everything i would need to start reloading. i have a basic idea of the kit required but would appreciate if someone could put an approx £££ to the lot. ( nothing fancy ) keith
