woodga replied to diggermad's topic in Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control

Bailer twine is the best option para cord looks nice : but a rabbit can bite through that in one go . Where bailer twine is made up of loads of strands and is very strong even a few strands can hold a rabbit , saying that I have had bailer twine bitten trough but not very often so as I set a few wires I need to know that bunny is going to there when I check in the morning bailer twine for me every time

Rabbits Pushing Under Fencing
woodga replied to Heyford moles Pest Control's topic in Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control
As Ian has already stated a snare will be the easier option, Another alternative would be to block off the hole making the rabbits enter else where along that fence line which would be better to to trap and snare and a little less obvious or take them on the run leading to the hole in the fence plenty of options available if you think about it -

Rabbit Trapping With The Fenn Vi's
woodga replied to J Darcy's topic in Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control
A very good start usually this time of year the percentage of rabbits are youngsters but as you have shown these traps will take full grown rabbits. its all down to how you set them and how high the roof of the hole is so the rabbit wont be thrown clear of the jaws when they fire,, looking good -
Rpsb's Anti Keeper Game
woodga replied to IanB's topic in Gamekeeping, Conservation & Shoot Management
aye but if people had not twigged onto what they were doing it would still be up there corrupting youngsters to their idiotic way of thinking -
the distance should be only what your confident at some shooters have more ability than others and even a sixty yard shot is a LONG way when you shoot at a live target the aim is to kill not wound so keep the distance sensible and with in your boundaries i normally only shoot out to around 5o yrs and then i have heavier shot and a larger charge in the cartridge to enable the hit .

fence snaring isnt rocket science once you have had a few rabbits you soon learn where to set, how high and what size loop to use .you also need to make sure the snare is tightly attached to the fence line

woodga replied to events co-ordinator's topic in Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control
if you have any locking snares of any type you are commiting an offence period !! .but if you have say 2 or three hundred old style rabbit snares with out stops you will not be prosecuted or commit an offence as long as you do not intend to use them and you do not need to possess a licence or a tag number to have them hanging in your shed, this has been confirmed after several phone calls to the scotish office and talks with john grey who deals with snares ect. but if you use them and are caught you will be prosecuted and this legislation only applies north of the border at the moment t -
Warning Ilegal Snares In Scotland.
woodga replied to events co-ordinator's topic in Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control
hugo straker, ian clark. and glen waters have a letter of exemption which states they can have snares in their possession for demonstration purposes even of the locking kind,,as for snares hanging in the shed as long as they are legal free running even without stops and are not locking snares you you are ok but after the 1st of april you need to have your licence and tag no to set wires if the snares are in your possesion you dont need a licence to own them if your not setting them as long as the snares are as stated free running at the moment this applies in scotland only -
