Some parts yes. You have to understand these countries/cultures to be able to make a judgment. Would I go, yes, would I be going into the barrios (neighbourhoods) alone? Not a sniff, not without someone known there. Life is cheap in some places and El Salvador is one of them. Plus, if you don't speak Spanish you're wide open, then again even if you do, you are wide open. To boot, you'll be labelled a "Gringo" (Yank). Designate them terrorists, it won’t change a thing mate. These countries thrive on the money.. especially the politicians and hierarchies. The normal bloke from these countries, chews the coca leaf like we sup a pint after work. It’s a massive part of their culture (I play pool here weekly with mates, hard working lads who finish work and then stuff their cheeks). So the plant is going nowhere. There will always be some dodgy cnut who wants a bit extra and believe me, they’ll go the extra mile and more to attain it

They live in there like a village. Families stay with the incarcerated. Kids and women leave daily to go to school, work or buy supplies to bring back for them to sell inside! More street food in those prisons than in all the streets of Vietnam

Book ya flights for a summer holiday, take the whole family! Before you jump back with some daft posts copied and pasted, think about first hand knowledge. Out of the mouths of people who happen to be from there (and surrounding countries) Mexico, Columbia etc have had 10's of 1000's of Federales, army and US forces operating in them for decades and they've not so much as even reduced production, shipment or consumption!

I got caught up on Helvellyn in a passing blizzard, about 100m from the stone windbreak at the top. As I was prepared, no bother! Took out the space blankets (pegged together), stayed in situ, made a makeshift tent, out with the stove and popped a brew on and we sat down and had lunch comfortably. 20-30 mins later it passed. I also know the hill like the back of my hand, so even if it had gone on longer, getting down wouldn't have been an issue.

Back in Action.. Passed the time, not a terrible film. The whiny kids pissed me off and I didn't know the Thames barrier prevented the Atlantic from flooding London!!! I'm surprised the Hoover dam can keep all that water out of New York! 6.5/10

Forget the name of the pub but if you walk down to Wastwater there is a cracking Jennings pub built on Roman foundations. Looking down from Scafell to Wastwater it's to the left, there's a minor route that winds down and around that's quicker than the main path down... A pint of Sneck lifter for me
