  1. Come on, where's the photography experts? I'm sure some of them can explain how 'things' can appear on photos. Did Victorian Women wear top hats? Maybe that spirit has been condemned to wander the Dog shows for eternity, as punishment for being a cross dresser in their earthly life!
  2. Yeh but won't that make me a real man, who'll be able to prove just how tough I am by blaming shooters for any real or imagined shortage of quarry? On second thoughts, I think I'll 'stick to my guns' , and risk the wrath of the holyer than thou macho types .
  3. So you don't dig foxes then? No different to running a hare with a dog. Whet gets me on this topic is all the negative stuff is coming from people who don't keep running dogs and don't know much about it. The 2 dead hares that the guy found could have been shot anyway for all we know. I think too many people on here are living in the past as Jibber points out you cannot do what we did 20 years ago. As for respect this respect for quarry most dog men do that's why most pack in late feb early March and leave them to breed. It does show theres 2 type of hunters ones that hunt and others that just
  4. And what about the many of us who have both Dogs and guns?.................... You've made me really unsure of my sexuality now!! Do I get rid of the guns and become a REAL man, or keep them and be called a girl/gay by the true macho men??????
  5. Ignorance can be borne from many things, most usually a lack of experience in a subject . The real problems start when people believe all they read/hear. Ive only had dogs for 40 years, keepers in the family and shooters in the family going back to my great grandad, maybe i should have taken more notice and i wouldnt be so ignorant on the subject,ah well Round here mate theyve decimated everything in the lamp with rifles,i hear the same story from mates in different areas, skill? Yea im anti shooting, ive stated why and its the truth, sometimes the truth hurts. I dont own a dog ca
  6. Hares aren't Rodents . They're Lagamorphs
  7. When looking at any photo like that, and without anyone saying anything first, the only people that see a 'ghost' are those that believe in them. Others see a faulty photo, reflection, double exposure, dirt on the sensor, hoax, etc etc. I'm sure I've seen that face before though..... A thl members avatar pic.............. Going to shows in disguise maybe , to expose the 'dodgy judging'

  9. I've said it earlier, but the fact which some people don't seem to realise is that for the last 20 years, NATIONALLY. the Brown Hare population has been steadily increasing. Anyone that is talking of a decline, can only be meaning locally, and the reasons they're giving may be true. During my lifetime there's been a big increase in the areas I'm familiar with, and by what some others write on here that's the same in other areas too.

  11. Course they exist....................In peoples heads. My thoughts are that if you believe in them, you're more likely to put anything unexplained, down to it being a ghost. I've been in many supposedly haunted places at night, and more often than not on my own, and I've never seen what I'd consider a ghost. I have seen and heard many strange things, but on closer investigation most have turned out to be explainable. One thing that did make me think a little, was when I was in my mid teens, I was alone in the middle of a wood, on an old track which ran past a derelict gamekeepers cottage w
  12. Yea pheasants arent arent worth transporting to the dealers, thats why a lot get buried after shoot day,see above, hares being thrown under hedges, lets not have no double standards. "Have given up ferreting,so the rifle is the only way i got that i can keep the numbers downwith and keep my permission" That statement makes as much sense as Harry Hill mate, you insinuate you only shoot to keep your permission to shoot as all you do is shoot I dont know one shooter who enjoys missing his target,on the other hand i know plenty of lurcher lads that doff their cap to a good hare that bea
  13. Was with one once. She said she was the type of person that accepted other peoples beliefs etc as long as she wasn't expected to change her feelings. It was obvious she hated what I was doing, then one day out of the blue, she screamed at me that I was a total f***ing phsyco who needed locking up now before I committed mass murder. When I asked her what the f**k she was on about, she pointed to my bookcase which was full of books, some which I'd collected since early childhood, mostly natural history, Birds Mammals, Tree and Plant I.D, but also Terrier, Lurcher, trapping and shooting, and sai

    Wolf hunt..

Looking forward to this series. IMO there's too few wildlife documentaries that still show it how it really is.
  16. Nice going It is very dark underneath. I was getting quite a few similar to that a couple of years back, and this year so far they've all been the 'usual' Fox red.
  17. I was thinking that too, and wondering if the truth be known, how many of them haven't actually caught anything to dump
  18. Already been done mate, And apparently it's the gunmen who are to blame. If some people on here are to be believed, then it won't be long before there's not a single Hare, Fox or Deer left for their dogs to run (pre ban of course )..
  19. I've found ash good for cleaning the glass too, but the stubborn thicker deposits that accumulate when burning overnight come off a treat with a drop of vinegar on a piece of newspaper or sponge (as long as the glass isn't too hot).
  20. That statement is nonsense and as a pestie you should know that you are quite correct there is now law against being on a footpath with a firearm aslong as you have the landowners permision, its the same as the not discharging a firearm within 50 feet of a highway its all bullshit the truth is it comes under the highways act and says you must not obstruct the flow of traffic. so if you say shoot a pheasent and it lands on the road and causes a car to stop then you are breaking the law but if someone stops to watch you shoot then you are not breaking the law as they have stopped of their o

Very good advice, apart from the last bit. There are some genuine people who want to learn/meet new people. But CAUTION must be the watchword, if they are genune and have no hidden agenda, then they'll understand. If not, they'll just fade away.
  23. I've always allowed my pups to walk off lead and if a Rabbit gets up it can chase if and when it wants, I think it's good for their physical development, providing it's only a few short runs. But if it's a big field where a Hare might get up, or rough ground, then it's on the lead. It's vital to remember that 'less is best' as a lot of damage can be done by over exertion at an early age. You can also learn a lot about the Dogs nature if it's off the lead around your hunting ground, and any little faults can be worked on, leaving you (hopefully) with a better Dog when it's time to start it in
